PUBLISHER’S NOTE Build Your Community and Uplift Yourself and Others I remember when I started to do my own training events for women in business. My mission was to simply educate women to thrive. Then after a year, I noticed all the women who kept coming back and the friendships and business collaborations being formed. That is when I realized we were a community of women entrepreneurs who all had similar values. That was the day I started to consciously cultivate our Thriving Women in Business Community in-person through our two-day summits, retreats and trainings; online through our website, Facebook group and virtual courses; and, of course, through our magazine. In this issue, we shine the spotlight on this rewarding aspect of business that ensures long-term and lifelong clients. When you have a community to call on for whatever you need, you are many times richer. Whether you need access or resources, new clients, people to help you promote something, whatever you need, it can often be found in your community. Charmaine McCowan is a great example of someone who builds community wherever she goes. She inspires others and cultivates community wherever you find her, leading workshops, on her radio show, on the cruises where she presents and through her programs. Charmaine is a great role model for doing business with heart. She is the kind of woman who uplifts every room she walks into. Get to know her. Your business will thank you and your life will be enriched.

Unlock Your Heart and Claim Your Amazing Life by Caterina Rando

Charmaine McCowan is a wellbeing expert, soughtafter speaker, author and breast cancer survivor. She has been cultivating community since she was sixteen as part of the Up With People international musical show. After a career in the securities industry, and about five years after surviving breast cancer, Charmaine wanted to attend a workshop that offered substance and real transformation. When she could not find one, she created one herself. Her Unlock Your Heart Workshops were born. Today, Charmaine shares how women can connect to their heart and their authenticity, and how to open their hearts to heal body, mind and spirit and connect to their authentic self. Charmaine is inspired every day to fulfill her mission to empower women to be of service in their community and world by first living an authentic life with passion and purpose. Her top guiding principles for business are: Seek to serve first. Your business will grow when people know that you care. The more your business serves, the more you will be fulfilled. Take care of the details. Small things matter, like acknowledgment, appreciation and doing what you can to be helpful whenever you can. Listen from the heart. Great listening and paying attention to your intuition saves you time and enriches your long-term relationships. Charmaine wants you to know that cultivating community is a key part of making your business thrive. She suggests you find someone who is successfully doing it. Take notes, listen, watch and then put your action plan in place with your unique brand. Good advice for us all.

CULTIVATING COMMUNITY ISSUE BUILD A Heart-Centered Community and Watch Your Business Soar By Charmaine McCowan

Community is a powerful force for positive change in the world. This power can propel you and your business forward beyond your wildest dreams. Why build this kind of community? Because people do business with people and companies that value them and make them feel good.

SERVICEWhatever it is you do, serve beyond the expected. Providing impeccable service is becoming a lost art. Place your focus on excellent service and your community becomes loyal. Loyalty builds sustainability. Start using this GPS system now. The word community can be defined as common unity. Create this common unity and you will see your business soar beyond your wildest dreams!

A captivating, passionate facilitator of wellbeing, Charmaine holds a Juris Doctorate degree in law and uses the power of words to inspire transformation. She has been heard to say that her real degree is not in the letter of the law but the spirit and soul behind those letters.

Now, more than ever, community is needed because the power to change the world lies in creating community. As women, we often lead with our hearts despite being told that this not the best way to proceed. There is one word for leading with the heart: passion. This word no one can dispute. What kind of community do you want to build? A heart-centered community, of course. Take your heart and your passion and put your GPS (genius, purpose, service) to work. No matter what type of business you have or what type of community you choose to create, start with your personalized GPS system to grow, sustain and nurture your community. GENIUSEveryone comes with unique gifts. We are each endowed with our own genius. Discover what is unique about you and bring that to your community. Ask your community and you may be delighted at how they see your genius, even when you can’t. PURPOSEThis may take a long time to discover if you go it alone. However, in a community it is easier to discover your purpose. Touch your heart and find your passion. That is your purpose revealed. 8

CULTIVATING COMMUNITY ISSUE CONNECTION to Your Community Matters! By Lee Richter When I think of cultivating community, I think of the many important communities with whom I share my love, expertise and attention. First, there is my personal community with my family and friends who mean the world to me. Second, there is my work community with leaders and coworkers who come together around a common vision and who enhance my life greatly. Then, there is my community of clients and customers that my team and I serve and honor. In addition, there are my neighbors, fellow business owners and community leaders with whom I have caring relationships. And don't overlook another community: our online community. Social media has expanded our reach into the world more than I ever imagined.

Yes, I am reaping the benefits as I connect more with my community. I share more happiness and receive more kindness. I get to connect with people at a deeper level. This is a valuable gift. Connection matters more than anything and connecting with people brings happiness! Connect with me online: LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/richtercom Facebook: www.facebook.com/goasklee/ Lee Richter is an innovator and for more than 30 years, she has built successful and dynamic community-driven businesses. Her unique vision and system generate massive results, proven by her highly successful companies, which produce millions of dollars, hundreds of jobs, support communities and educate thousands of people all over the world. Lee has been working with happiness experts for many years and www.sharehappinessnow.com is her passion project she shares with the world.

Yes, I am interested in each of these relationships succeeding. Some of them cross over into both personal and business areas of my life. In my town, we have special annual events that bring us face-to-face to break bread and to discuss current trends. It is casual, yet valuable time together that takes an investment of energy, which usually sparks valuable ideas and support. The secret to having a meaningful connection is being truly interested. When I met the "Most Interesting Man in the World" at a speech at Harvard University last year, I asked him what made him so interesting. He responded, "By being interested!" I took that comment to heart and became more interested in people. Now, I ask more questions and continue to learn more about the people around me. 10

CULTIVATING COMMUNITY ISSUE TOP THREE THINGS TO KNOW about Boosting Your Business with Live Events By Laura Gisborne Live events are one of the most powerful tools for attracting new clients and for building your community. Live events give you the opportunity to both build relationships with potential clients and to deepen relationships with existing clients. Hosting an event might feel out of your comfort zone, but the benefits are worth it and there are some things you can do to make it easier. For best results, focus on these three main areas. The rest will fall into place naturally.

1. Ensure you are speaking to your ideal client. While this may seem obvious, I have seen entrepreneurs who have been so eager to get themselves out there that they end up in a room full of people who will never buy their product. Know who your ideal client is and get in front of them. It’s that simple. 2. Offer your high-ticket products or programs. Imagine you’re hosting an event in a beautiful location and the room is full of your ideal clients. Give them the VIP treatment. As they get a feel for who you are, reveal to them what they might experience if they buy your highticket program. 3. Follow up, follow up, follow up! I cannot emphasize this enough. The first week post-event is crucial: You must follow up. Be sure to keep the energy and momentum from the event during 12

CULTIVATING COMMUNITY ISSUE MARKETING Means Building Community

much! Even if the person doesn’t become a client right away, experiencing your expertise creates trust, sets them up to refer you to others and puts them in your community category.

By Linda Basso

Upgrade your business by taking action now on these three tips to build community through your marketing.

Marketing is really about creating relationships. It’s not about creating ads, building your brand or even growing your list. People buy from others they resonate with. If someone is a name on your list, and they do not feel your desire to have a relationship or to really know them, they’ll move on to someone else. Why? Because we are people! And most people have the need to connect, to be seen and to be heard. If you’re not creating a relationship through your marketing, you’re missing your real opportunity: building community. These tips can help create community through your marketing: Express authentically: You have to be the real you in your copy, conversations and marketing materials. Do not hide behind stock photos and generic words. Work with someone who can bring you to life in your marketing elements. Take a look at your materials—do they reflect the real you people in your personal life know? If not, it is time to refresh. Take steps: No one likes the person who tries to sell them something as soon as they meet. Like any relationship, your contacts with potential clients should encourage small steps to get to know one another. This means taking time to learn what their needs are and taking action on ways you can support them before they become customers. Share freely: Giving away your expertise is a great way to get a relationship going or to cement a blossoming one. Honestly, you cannot give away too 14

CULTIVATE COMMUNITY — the Value Is Priceless By Caterina Rando, Publisher TWIB Magazine A community can inspire you, support you and make you feel like the luckiest person on the planet. The value of any group exponentially multiplies when the people in it have a strong sense of belonging to a community of people like them. In a community, people cultivate friendships, share resources, become each other's clients and referral partners, and quickly start to support each other in a variety of ways. This quantifiably increases the amount of value they receive from working with you. This also keeps them engaged with you as a clienthopefully for the long term.

CULTIVATING COMMUNITY ISSUE Find Ways to Showcase Your Community Members Do not do everything yourself. See if you can find ways to let others be in charge of something or to take some responsibility. Have a lot of people speak, not just you, whenever possible. This gives people ways to be engaged in the community and makes them feel more a part of it. Take action on what we have discussed here. Creating community can be the most rewarding thing you ever do in your business. Get started today. Caterina Rando is the publisher of Thriving Women in Business Magazine. As a mentor to women in business on a mission, Caterina invites you to join her at an upcoming live event for women. Visit www.caterinarando.com/events or join the TWIB Facebook group at: www.facebook.com/groups/thrivingbusinessgroupforwomen

Here are some ideas to get you started consciously creating your community: Select the Values You Want to Guide Your Community You want the values by which you run your community to be the same as the values by which you run your business. Write them down. Talk about them in your community so that everyone can align with the values and demonstrate them when in community. Make All Group Members Feel Seen and Heard and Valued We never want anyone in the community to feel invisible or like they do not really belong. Be sure to welcome everyone individually. Tell them you are so glad they have joined you and be sure everyone’s voice is heard. This cultivates a feeling of belonging, which is key. Allow Everyone to Shine Look for ways to shine the spotlight on people in the community when they have accomplished something or when they are working on something and would like support from the group. A slideshow with everyone’s picture in it shines light on individual members of your community. Look for more ways to do this. 18

CULTIVATING COMMUNITY ISSUE CREATE a Dynamic Network By Diane Halfman You’ve heard the term “self-made,” right? While I understand the spirit of this description, in my experience I don’t believe any successful person is 100 percent self-made. Successful people surround themselves with other successful people, and they lean on their networks when they need support, investment or just another set of eyes and ears. Professional athletes train with other professional athletes. Top entrepreneurs join networks and invest in masterminds so they can share ideas with people on a similar path. Wealthy people tend to invest in retreats to network with other wealthy people.

When I work with a new client, one of the first things we do together is look at nine key areas of her life, so she can step into her version of the SpaLife. Creating a dynamic network is part of that process. As a TWIB subscriber, you can download your copy of the e-guide here for free! www.dianehalfman.com/guide

Diane Halfman is a SpaLife mentor, speaker and organizational expert. An expert in the Nine Elements representing a well-rounded life, Diane’s gift is to step into any surrounding and determine what is holding you back. Complex problems become simple solutions as she intuitively guides you into an elevated life you’ll love!

Successful people understand that success attracts more success. They understand that in order to expand their influence and income, they need to be around others doing the same. You’ve probably heard that you’re the average of the five people you spend the most time with. Think about that for a moment. Who do you spend the most time with online and offline? Where do you invest your energy? In order to create the level of income and impact that you want for your business, it’s essential to assemble people around you who will support your vision and goals. The right environment is everything, and creating a supportive community is a big part of that environment. This won’t happen by accident, so you must put the work into it. You must actively seek to build a network of people who want to support your journey, and go on the journey with you! 20

CULTIVATING COMMUNITY ISSUE MAGNETIZE A COMMUNITY to Grow Your Business By Laurie Zerga There are endless options to expand and grow your business. Leveraging community can be a fun way. A community is a group with common interests and culture. According to a 2017 Michigan University article, incremental revenue increased 19 percent when customers joined an online community. There are a few different avenues to consider when building your community. Today, most experts go directly to online communities; however there are other types of communities. Here are three: 1. Online community is built with blogs, your website, and social media, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and others. 2. Associations build community of similar businesses in a particular industry. 3. Networking can build community through in-person events and activities, typically in a specific geographical area.

Zillionthe number of new members you will attract! Enjoyalways have fun and enjoy building your community Develop a program and process to consistently communicate and engage with your community. Remember you are looking to involve members with common interests and culture. What do your customers have in common? This leads to your niche. Your niche leads to ideas of how to magnetize members to your community. When you consider where other like-minded people hang out, you will have input to determine the avenues to use to find community members. Soon you will have a growing community. Laurie Zerga, founder, Booming Business with Ease, combines her passion for relationships, community and business to support entrepreneurs and CEOs. She helps clients increase their value 10 times with tips that provide the shortest distance to their revenue goals. These big corporate tips work for small and medium-sized businesses, yet very few use these techniques, which allow them to serve many more people and increase the bottom line. CULTIVATING COMMUNITY ISSUE REWRITE THE STORIES in Your Head and Love Life By Dr. Beth Halbert As a psychologist, I have heard just about everything from I want to die, I want to kill someone, to My life is wonderful and I still don’t know what’s keeping me stuck from the life I know I deserve. HELP! In a nutshell, if you’re not loving life, it’s your story. Psychologists listen to stories to transform lives. The story is the key to taking your power back. It is the “conscious creator” who manifests the story you want to live your life into. What are you telling yourself? Are you willing to be wrong about your story to have your wildest dreams come true?

T–Thoughts are things. What is your story creating? H–Halt, hold, hug, and acknowledge the hurt of the old story. O–Organize and be open to the new story. R –Release your fears, reveal the ROI (return on investment) and reflect the magic of your life. Remember, God may be the creator, but you are the author of your story. Change the story. Uplift and empower your life. Learn how with my gift at www.ownyourstorybydrbeth.com. Dr. Beth Halbert, America’s Teenologist, is a psychologist specializing in women’s empowerment. Release your inner teen so you can be more passionate, playful and productive. She has a gift and is passionate about transforming perfectionistic, overwhelmed women through her Own Your Story Program by embracing defiant, rebellious teenage energy in adult entrepreneurs.

Would you rather be right or would you rather be rich, madly in love, living in bliss, ____________? It really is that simple. If you haven't implemented your dreams and or completed your life’s passion and purpose, a block exists. Owning your story is how to remove it. Most people need help removing that block. The Own Your Story process helps shift innumerable self-sabotaging playbacks into uplifted conscious creations that focus on result-oriented manifestations so you live the life you love. CULTIVATING COMMUNITY ISSUE SOAR WITH THE EAGLES How branding and community lead to entrepreneurial success By Tammy Tribble

“You will never see an eagle of distinction flying low with pigeons of mediocrity.” —Onyi Anyado When entrepreneurs commit to their big ideas, dreams and visions, they have a choice. They choose to take the leap, get support, gather resources, hang with other successful entrepreneurs and choose to be ALL IN, or they do not. Here are ways entrepreneurs who soar with the eagles stand out:

Community: As you grow, foster your own community! Have a Facebook page for your clients. Speak in front of groups and invite them to join your tele-classes, seminars and retreats. Businesses that have professional branding/graphics that look like a million bucks and that get testimonials and support while building community distinguish themselves from the crowd of mediocrity! Make the commitment and soar with the eagles! Tammy Tribble is the founder of Mimetic Design Systems, Inc., where she works with entrepreneurs, solopreneurs, and business owners who are ready to stand out from the crowd and make a difference within their target markets. She is a branding specialist, providing businesses with communication and marketing materials designed to tell everyone about their amazing business. She helps her clients fulfill their dreams and make their vision a reality! Contact Tammy at 510-881-8446, or tammyt@mimeticsystems.com.

Branding: They understand the value of branding. They work with experts who help them to clearly, confidently and concisely communicate what they do, who they do it for and the benefits that attract ideal clients. Look bigger than you currently are: They understand that with a professional site and social media presence they can look like a million-dollar business, even if they aren’t there yet. This garners credibility and attracts the kinds of clients who not only want what you have, but will pay for it. Testimonials: They see that testimonials are the least expensive, most impactful way to attract new clients. Visitors to your website tend to read testimonials and FAQ’s first before committing to your product or service. Testimonials are good, with pictures are better and with videos are best. Support: Hire the coach, attend the seminar, invest in the program and read books by mentors with whom you connect and share values. You gain an amazing community along the way. 26

CULTIVATING COMMUNITY ISSUE THREE POWERFUL WAYS to Cultivate Community through Your Social Media By Diana Morgan

Build an Online Presence Cultivating community through your social media begins with building your own online presence. Let’s start with Facebook. To begin, you will want your online presence to reflect a clear, focused message so people can get to know you on both your personal and business pages. Everything you LIKE, share or comment on in some way reflects your message. As you share content that expresses your brand, people who have an interest in what you are up to will gravitate toward you, and your following will begin to grow.

people whom you would like to invite to be in your community. I recommend joining a couple of groups to start with. It takes time to find a great group that has active participation, good conversation and sharing of quality content. Once you join, get to know the members and actively participate, when and if appropriate, you can invite them to check out your group. Diana Concoff Morgan, Business and Marketing Coach, author and speaker is passionate about teaching, inspiring and empowering entrepreneurs to grow their businesses. With over 25 years of successful business and marketing experience, Diana specializes in online/offline strategies; showing you how to apply them to your business to get results. She offers live and virtual trainings, and "Done for You" Internet marketing services including website development, blogging, SEO, social media posting and digital advertising.

Start Your Own Community Now that you have an online presence and a following, you can start to cultivate community by creating a Facebook Group. Facebook Groups offer a powerful way to connect in community. There are groups forming all the time on just about any topic you can think of. When you set up your group, use your name and the topic in the title so people can find you by searching either category. Then invite your friends and other people you think might be interested in your group. The key to a successful group is to encourage members to participate and connect, and to offer great information. Join a Couple of Facebook Groups Now that you have an online presence where people can get to know you, and a Facebook Group for people to join you in community, you can go find 28

CULTIVATING COMMUNITY ISSUE INCREASE IS THE KEY

to Better Cash Flow By Audrey Godwin The purpose of your company’s product or service is to meet a need, solve a problem or create an experience. Focusing your energy and effort on increase allows you to grow top-line revenue and profitability, which creates healthy cash flow. Here are ways to bring increase into your company: Increase the number of your ideal clients. Sounds simple and requires some focus. We know our product or service can meet a need for a number of different customers or clients. What would happen if you focused on increasing the number of the type of customers you want?

Increase the effectiveness of each process in your business. This is the notsexy or passion-filled aspect of your business. Automation is the key here. Invoice your clients for services as soon as a project is complete. Systematize or delegate email communication. Create an ecosystem to reach, develop and maintain client relationships. Increasing your cash flow gives you many options to have a financially vibrant business that increases your personal income and the impact you have in your community. Audrey Godwin is an award-winning entrepreneur who helps heart-centered, smart and decisive women business owners go from financially stretched to financially secure. As a direct result of applying Audrey’s Fearless Financial Mastery System™ her clients increase cash flow and profitability while decreasing stress and worry. Contact Audrey at audrey@resilientbusinessolutions.com or 206-579-1063.

Increase the average value of each sale. This can be a pricing issue. Is your pricing in line with the results you provide? Do you have complimentary products or services that your customer should purchase that would enhance the results or experience? You know, like buying a pair of sneakers where they offer you the insole and socks, making sure that you have the best experience wearing your new kicks. Increase the number of times your customers come back. Stay top of mind with your customers and clients. Do you only meet with them once a year? Perhaps they need more access to you between annual appointments. Dentists recommend twice-a-year appointments. Garden stores provide products and services throughout the year so you can prepare, plant and harvest with ease. 30

DESIGN CULTIVATING YOUR COMMUNITY BRIGHTER FUTURE ISSUE

WHAT IS YOUR Money Mode? By Lu Casillas You work hard for your money. You have plans and dreams for now and for your future. Sometimes we are so busy generating revenue that we do not think about how we can preserve it or use it to ensure we have a solid financial future. Let’s look at your money mode. The Restart Mode: You’ve had something happen like an economic crash in your industry or a “life” situation like divorce, health crisis or care-taking for a parent, and your financial resources have been drained.

Legacy Mode: You want to preserve your wealth for your family. With guidance, you select a plan. This is where it is essential to meet with a specialist. The policy strategy I use for my clients can give you income and tax-free money for your family in the future. That is a legacy. Lu Casillas, is the educator and creator of Blend2Day, supporting women to find Balance in Life, Educating one another through Networking, and making their Dreams become reality. As a specialist at FCA, it is her goal to help women create a wealth preservation strategy that allows access to funds while also building a lifetime income stream.

Spend It Mode: You earn it and spend it and this is a continuous cycle. You do not consider what happens if something goes wrong and do not plan for a time when you will not or cannot work. You probably have a lot of financial stress. Save It Mode: You take a percentage of your income and sock it away. You may often get discouraged because money in a savings account does little more than just sit there. Invest It Mode: You consider investment options and pick what supports your future. Life insurance can be a great addition. There is a plan that is right for you. Investing in a plan now could leave you with lifetime retirement income and give you the financial security you desire.
