Sherwood Park Fury
Message from the Coach After a high-paced summer conditioning camp, tryouts for the 2015/16 SPKAC Midget AAA Fury began. Participating in the NAIT Ice Breaker tournament was a great opportunity to do the final evaluations to ensure we had the right mix. This year’s team is made up of a talented set of third and second year players along with a top-notch group of rookies.
The Fury had a solid start to the season. The team is currently sitting in the middle of the pack within the AMMFHL (www.ammfhl-hockey.ca) with games in hand and playing a majority of league games on the road. We have set our goals as a team to make our way to the provincial finals this season and attend the Esso Cup. It would be a great note to end on and is certainly within the group’s reach. For the first time in the team’s history, the Fury have been invited to the Mac’s AAA tournament in back-to-back years. Prior to this group of talented players arriving on the scene, the Fury had only been invited to the prestigious Mac’s AAA Tournament once. The coaching staff and I are proud this group showed the potential to achieve new heights for the Kings Club. Winning their pool in four straight and making the semi-finals certainly proved it. Well done ladies! The coaching staff and I firmly believe hockey is a path that opens doors for greater potential in the future for the players. It helps to grow so many personal attributes such as learning how to deal with others in stressful situations, how to be a leader, working as a team, developing a strong work ethic and numerous other traits. It also grows connections within the community, gives youth the opportunity to travel and proudly represent the crest on the front of the jersey while making the name on the back proud as well. The character and growth that we have already seen from the members of the Fury is phenomenal. The experience they are gaining through playing and representing the Kings Club will stay with them for the rest of their lives. A special thanks to all the coaching / support staff and volunteers that help to make this team a success. The example you provide in your dedication to the team is one that all the players will remember and I am sure follow in the future. Thank you all for your time and effort as no organization can run without the great people that support it. Thank you to our fans as well. We hope to provide you with some exciting games to watch in the balance of the season. We appreciate the support and look forward to sharing our future successes with you. To our sponsors who see the potential in keeping youth active in minor sports and want to help - thank you. Through your assistance, so much more is possible. We greatly appreciate your involvement. Through all of the support and effort, the goal is develop a team that achieves great success and develops a strong character. A character that will help all the players develop into leaders in our communities, schools and future endeavors. We hope they are a great example to future generations of female hockey players in Sherwood Park of what can be achieved through dedication, commitment and hard work.

Message from SPKAC President
On behalf of the Board, I would like to congratulate these girls on being a part of the SPKAC Female Midget AAA Fury Hockey Team. The commitment, determination and skill the athletes bring to the rink and office activities provides a positive role model to the young girls in SPMHA who are looking to pursue their hockey ambitions. Being a part of the Kings Program is a very heavy time commitment from our 15-17 year olds, juggling hockey commitments of 5-7 days per week, high school, family and their personal lives, we truly believe we are developing better people as opposed to just better hockey players. I would like to thank the parents who have made sacrifices to allow these players to pursue their hockey goals and dreams, without parent support this would program would almost be impossible to run. To the coaches and support staff, thank you for making the commitment to these athletes and to the philosophies of the Kings Club to create a program that allows young ladies to thrive in both hockey and life. To the sponsors who provide a valuable part of the responsibility for helping players realize their dreams, thank you. Good Luck Fury in the 2015-2016 Season! Rob Davis President Sherwood Park Kings Athletic Club

Years in Hockey: 10 Most memorable hockey moment? My most memorable moment was when Fury made the Macs tournament last year. All the fans there to watch and cheer, having the games announced on the radio and that we did so well as a team. The experience as a whole was fantastic. Any superstitions? I will only use white tape on my stick. Nicknames? Jim. Who has had the most influence on your hockey career and why? My parents. They encourage me to be my best and try my hardest. My parents point me in the right direction and keep me on the path to be successful in whatever I do. Without their support I wouldn’t be where I am today.
Years in Hockey: 13 Most memorable hockey moment? I have had many great moments over the years. Mostly they are all about making a difference on your line, on your shift, on your team. The perfect face-off win to make the play happen in the semi-final game of Bantam provincial Semi-finals that resulted in the goal to force OT. The fight on boards to win the puck in OT that I passed to assist the goal to win Provincials. It’s all about the individual efforts that made a difference. The battles. Those are the memories.
Any superstitions? The smell is luck. Stinky equipment is lucky. Nicknames? Jilly, Jill J-Mac. Who has had the most influence on your hockey career and why? My mom has always believed in me. She is always right there to support me. She volunteers her time and worked hard since I was little to be there for my brother’s hockey as well as mine. She never gives up, she says there are many paths to the destination. If one path gets blocked we find a new path. Never give up on your passion.
