Welcome back for another exciting season of Sherwood Park Steele Junior A Female Hockey. At this time, we would like to thank our many sponsors, volunteers, parents and most importantly the young ladies who represent us so well and make everything possible. We are coming off a strong 2017/18 season which culminated in our ladies winning their second straight AJFHL Provincial Championship. We have a strong group of returning players who have built our foundation, character, passion, commitment, teamwork which we call Steele Hockey. Joining the core is a young, passionate group of rookies who bring talent, energy and a new hunger to the team. The girls aged 18 to 21 have full schedules with most attending College or University programs while working part time or fulltime jobs. Many still find time to volunteer with local organizations and community hockey programs. The girls in the program come from all over Alberta and even a few from out of province. The Sherwood Park Steele Program is focused on developing young ladies who will become future leaders in our communities. With our graduating juniors as an example, the program will continue to have success. Well done ladies! The coaching staff is excited at the opportunity to coach such a talented group of young ladies who are willing to work so hard to achieve their goals. This wouldn’t be possible without the support of many people and businesses, your support doesn’t go unnoticed, we thank you! SHERWOOD PARK STEELE & AJFHL
AJFHL was established in 2009 for female hockey players 18-21 years old to continue playing hockey at a competitive level after Midget. Founding members included: Sherwood Park, Fort Saskatchewan, Irma, Spruce Grove, Red Deer, Wainwright and Edmonton. In 2011 the AJFHL expanded with teams in Calgary and Cremona. Currently there are nine teams spread over the province with four in the North and five in the South. A New Home in 2018 A ten year anniversary is traditionally celebrated with gifts of tin and aluminum. Something could be said of this for the gift the Steele received in the way of space at the Ardrossan Recreation Complex in 2018, their tenth year in operation. Community use is key to any facility success and having a team or group sign on to help take care and foster the next set of user groups benefits everyone. It becomes their home away from home and return visits will be top priority for years to come because they have a sense of growing up there. The Sherwood Park Steele was thrilled to have dark green paint and their logo on the door at ARC. It didn’t stop there. With assistance, the dressing room was transformed into a top-notch team area. “This is something we had dreamed about, so to see it come to life over the summer was beyond expectation” noted Glenn Ball, Steele Assistant Coach and founding member of the AJFHL league. “To have a dressing room dedicated to female hockey players is an accomplishment. It speaks to the longevity of commitment the community has towards this team and we are very grateful. Huge thanks out to Strathcona County for partnering with us” Ball added.
