Divisional Updates Stay connected!

South Texas

Hill Country

South Texas Division is doing awesome. We are looking forward to raising the most money for the Eliminate Project :)! We will be having food drives every month between all 3 chapters. Fall Rally will be geared towards the STUFH project and Spring Rally will be geared towards the Eliminate Project. South Texas division plans to double their membership from last years number! We plan to be the biggest it's ever been. We will also try to recharter or charter another CKI in South Texas.

With just four months into the 2013-2014 CKI year, I am beyond impressed by the passion, dedication, and commitment to CKI shown by the Hill Country Division. As of July 7, 2013, we have 3 active chapters. Those chapters include Austin Community College, Southwestern University, and The University of Texas at Austin. The President of St. Edward’s University CKI is currently gathering the necessary information to re-charter this chapter. I will be working with them very closely so we can have them back on our CKI family!

- Maria Medina

Oklahoma-Panhandle

The Hill Country Division has accumulated a total of 479 hours and 30 minutes of service to our community. We have also participated in 18 Inter-Chapters and 7 Kiwanis Family Relations Events.

Things have been going pretty slow for the OK-Pan division this summer for the most part. However, OK- Marcelo Urieta Bravo Pan’s Fall Rally has officially been scheduled! It will take place at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma on September 21st. For our service project, we are going to do a “river float” where we clean up the river while floating on rafts. It will be a fantastic event, and I encourage everyone who is able to, to attend. It will be an unforgettable day full of service, friends, and fun. Other happenings in OK-Pan include a new chapter on the horizon and sending one of our own, Sarah Cloeter, to Leadership Academy 2013! While I haven’t spoken with Sarah directly, I think it’s safe to say that she had a phenomenal time. Hope to see you all at Fall Retreat (November 8th - 10th) if not before. Love you guys! <3 - Heidi Brooks

Southeast/Gulf Coast

Red River-Metro

The Southeast/Gulf Coast Division is having a fantastic CKI year thus far! With newly chartered University of Houston CKI, SE/GC is now 4 chapters strong and excelling in all areas of service, leadership and fellowship. Our chapters are organizing several service projects for the month to come, including a food bank trip for UH and a card writing event at Texas A&M. The SE/GC division is also gearing up for our Fall Rally! With so many exciting events going on throughout the division, members of SE/GC division are ready to take on the CKI year head on!

SMU, SWCC and UTD has had their first meetings of the year! Over 20 people showed to each of the school's meeting and we are excited for the future ahead! I am also excited to announce that I am looking into chartering a CKI in Eastfield College with the White Rock Kiwanis Club. Lastly, there will be a divisional Fall Rally on September 28th, 11am at UTD. There will be free lunch, and t-shirt and raffle prizes! - Joseph Lim

Governor’s Update LSSP & ICON Recapped!

Hello T-O! My name is Allison Prisco, and I have the distinct honor of serving as the district governor of the Mighty Texas -Oklahoma District! My year so far has been filled with great adventures and awesome travels! This summer, I attended the 2013 Large Scale Service Project and International Convention in Vancouver, B.C. and got to meet and reconnect with several friends of mine from all across Circle K International! I’m here to give a little recap of what happened, and I hope this article, as well as first hand stories from those members you know that attended this year, will get you excited and ready to attend next year’s LSSP and ICON! Large Scale Service Project, known to most Circle K members as LSSP, is a three day event where CKI’ers go out to different service projects and give back to the host city. In Vancouver, attendees participated in a variety of projects! The project that made the most impact, and was easily everyone’s favorite project, was building two brand new playgrounds from the ground up! The Sir Wilfred Laurier Elementary School and Annex received brand new playgrounds, thanks to Habitat Systems and Landscape Structures Inc., the new Kiwanis Vision Partner. LSSP was also a great time to bond with members all across CKI. In all, over 160 members of CKI participated in the event that produced over 2,400 total service hours over the course of three days. At ICON,CKI members browsed through the exhibit hall full of vendors, attended Kiwanis opening session and closing session, and heard from several well-known and inspirational speakers. Representatives from all across CKI voiced their opinions on several bylaw amendments and the voting of our new international board. Members also attended educational workshops and forums to learn more about CKI. The week gave us a chance to bond as districts and members, including special district dinners, walking back and forth between the convention center and the hotel, and several late-night hangouts and walks around Vancouver to enjoy the nightlife...or just to find a midnight snack. Overall, the attendees at LSSP and ICON this year had an amazing time enjoying the sights, sounds and smells of Vancouver, even if there was a little rain; our spirits weren’t dampened! With the excitement of LSSP and ICON behind us, CKI is well on its way to having an amazing and spectacular year! I hope to see you all next year in Nashville, Tennessee for the 59th Annual International Convention and the 14th Annual Large Scale Service Project, June 17-22, 2014! Serving in this capacity has been a wonderful experience so far, and I’m excited for you all to start getting involved with your individual chapters. The district board and I have been preparing some really exciting events for you to come and interact with members of the entire Texas-Oklahoma District. I look forward to meeting you this year! Until then, I leave you all with warm wishes for a successful CKI year full of service, leadership, and fellowship!

Your Friend, Allison Prisco

What’s Happening in T-O? Check out the upcoming events and what other CKI’ers are doing!

Eight members of the WTAMU CKI Chapter helped their sponsoring Amarillo Downtown Kiwanis club put out American Flags on Labor Day. The Kiwanis members put out 1900 American flags on five holidays as their major fund raiser. The six members helping in the afternoon made it possible to take in the flags without having to double up on routes for which the Kiwanis members were very grateful! Here is a picture of some of the CKI members. The WTAMU Chapter will be doing small service projects every second week and will be serving a meal at the Faith City Mission in Amarillo as their next service project.
