BELLVILLE WINTERMARK: ‘REDUCING WASTE IS ALL ABOUT STOPPING BAD HABITS’
Waste winners announced NIELEN DE KLERK @nielendk
A
man who has been ridiculed for cleaning his litter-strewn neighbourhood for years has walked away as one of the champions in a local competition aimed at reducing waste. The winners of Bellville Wintermark’s annual Plastic Waste Competition were crowned last week, with Mpendulo Ncubukezi receiving top honours for his work in Delft. The competition, hosted by CiviNovus and Ligstad, is growing steadily as more sponsors, like Jumbo Tar and Plastics SA, have come on-board to honour those who clean-up our environment in a sustainable way. The winners this year are Ncubukezi (who received a R10 000 cash prize), the Mosselbank River Conservation Team (MRCT) (R10 000), Mila Franklin (R2 500) for her reusable item and Alvin Mark Schroeder (R2 500) for his artwork. Ncubukezi won in the category for individuals cleaning up their areas. He says he started the project when he saw how small children were eating and playing among the dirt. He was unemployed at the time and decided to make a difference. He rallied up others to help him clean, but when the rubbish reappeared the others soon gave
Alvin Mark Schroeder’s artwork helped him secure the first place in the art category of Bellville Wintermark’s annual Plastic Waste Competition. Schroeder melted plastic bottles to make a surface on which he could transfer a painting made on rough paper. up. Yet, despite finding employment, he keeps on cleaning and has even paid others to do the same. Ncubukezi says reducing waste is all about stopping bad habits.
“Carelessness has made people throw rubbish anywhere without thinking about the consequences of their actions. Many people do not realise or underestimate the negative impacts of littering on the environment.”
The Mosselbank River Conservation Team (MRCT) won the group award. The team comprises volunteers based in Greenville Garden City, who are trying to clean the Mosselbank River in Fisantekraal. The river is a popular dumping ground and the volunteers face an uphill battle when it comes to reducing the mess in the area. They regularly organise community clean-ups and have hosted numerous educational activities hoping to inspire others in their community to value the river and keep it healthy. Alvin Mark Schroeder, who lives in Blue Downs, won the art category for his artwork made of melted plastic bottles. Schroeder says he collects most of his bottles at a canal which separates Kleinvlei and Spandau. “The people use the banks of the canal to dump their rubbish regularly. I go there and collect the plastic bags. I utilised the various colours from local shopping outlets for my picture.” He has exhibited his art in Switzerland and Germany. Schroeder says poverty forced him to look for innovative ways in which to make art. Mila Franklin (16) won the prize in the category for reusable items. She made a shirt from different items she picked up in her street.

Cameras now detect humans in suburbs NIELEN DE KLERK
termined hours. Stellenberg was the first area to feature the cameras. They took the plunge in January this year and had 13 of these cameras installed by Rubics Solutions. Alet du Preez, chair of Stellenberg Neighbourhood Watch (NHW), says the funds for the cameras came from residents. Each camera costs between R10 000 if installed from scratch, but less if an existing pole is used. “It works like a dream,” she says. They receive around 1 700 alerts in total during a 24-hour period. One of the residents, Males

P
otential criminals in Stellenberg and parts of Durbanville have at least one eye on them during evenings, making it easier to catch them before they commit a crime An increasing number of “human detection cameras” are being installed across Cape Town and security companies and neighbourhood watches are thrilled. These cameras look like normal security cameras, but can detect human movement during pre-de-
Tomlinson, wrote a programme which sends out a short video clip which helps security companies and patrollers determine whether movement is potentially dangerous. The NHW patrollers focus on evening activity, when there are less alerts. Du Preez says there are many people who walk their dogs or go jogging late at night, but the patrollers can see they are residents and dismiss these alerts. The alerts are monitored primarily by die SNW patrollers but it also feeds to the control rooms of all the participating security
companies and the northern suburbs NHW radio control room. In June Goedemoed and Tara also installed a total of 14 cameras. Verena Hulme, Cape Town north district manager of Fidelity ADT, says these cameras add real value. “If any suspicious movement is recorded by the cameras, we can immediately alert security partners and neighbourhood watch members in the area through the northern suburbs radio network.” Annemie de Lange, chair of Tara Neighborhood Watch, says
the cameras will help deal with their large greenbelt area and the numerous potential escape routes for any criminals. “We currently have 22 patrollers for an area that covers erven, roads and public spaces with boundaries at Langeberg Road, Tara Road, Fairtrees Road, and Legato Drive. Our area sees many instances of opportunistic crime,” she says. Many areas in the northern suburbs have licence plate recognition (LPR) cameras, which used along with the human detection cameras, have vastly improved the security game.

RICHARD ROBERTS @richardjohn_rj The mystery “high pitch noise” a resident claims he often hears near Tygerberg Hills might be resolved. Lionel Wilkinson, another local resident, contacted TygerBurger after reading an article about the noise published last month (‘High pitch noise irks’, 24/6). “After reading your article, I also tried to think what the high pitch noise could be. I realised what it could be and there is only one explanation, as I have also heard that sound before,” Wilkinson explains. He says the mystery noise is that of a pri-
vate jet which has a flight path over Tygerberg Hills. The mystery noise was initially shared with the newspaper by Oostersee resident Neil Wunsch. Neil described the noise as a unexplainable high pitch frequency. “If he (Neil) recorded the times he heard the noises, it would be simple to check with the airport’s previous records of flights,” Lionel, also from Oostersee, says. The 82-year-old says he loves to watch the flight paths of the aircraft which pass overhead daily. “The flight paths start over Tygerberg Hills and come as far down as my home. One can hear them approaching in
the distance, over Durbanville, or further down, then continue over Plattekloof, Parow West, Goodwood and Elsies River,” Lionel explains. He says he has seen the private jet flying overhead before and that jets do have a high pitched sound. “So I do not think it is anything in connection with the towers on top of the hill,” Lionel says. The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa has been to the area to do tests, however it delivered no results. The City of Cape Town’s department of environmental health who also investigated the matter, has yet to determine the source of the noise.

Rugby heroes help set up field hospital DESIRÉE RORKE @dezzierorke
S
tormers captain Siya Kolisi and his squad of players on Friday – under strict health protocols – jumped in, to offload trucks and make beds at a new Covid19 field hospital in Brackenfell. This facility in Brackengate was built in just over a month and will receive its first patients this coming Friday (10 July). The 338-bed intermediate care facility forms part of the Hospital of Hope initiative, which seeks to cover the projected shortfall of beds required during the peak of the pandemic in the Western Cape.
“The hospital will provide medical care including oxygen, X-rays and sonar for patients who are on the way to recovery, but still need medical care. “It also contains eight beds where high flow oxygen treatment can be administered,” said Western Cape premier, Alan Winde, who met up with the players at the site. “This facility allows us to provide care to those who need it, while opening up acute care beds in our hospitals.” Kolisi said it was an honour for the squad to play a small role in helping to bring hope to those hit hardest by the Covid-19 pandemic. “This is a world-class facility and it is re-
ally heartening to see everyone come together in this way to deliver quality care for those that need it in such a short space of time,” he said. The hospital boasts WiFi for patients to video call their families and loved ones, paperless patient records and a medical waste disposal system which will pulverise and disinfect all waste generated in the facility. Construction was completed on Wednesday for provincial health staff to start installing and checking systems. This is the province’s third completed field hospital – after the Khayelitsha Thusong Hospital and the CTICC Hospital of Hope.

Dis bloot arbeid. My brandstof en my tyd gee ek gratis. Exhibition of pots with ‘attitude’ A solo exhibition by Durbanville ceramist Hennie Meyer titled Pots with Attitude is currently on display in the “Cube” at Rust-enVrede art gallery and clay museum in Durbanville. Continued support for galleries is invaluable during these unprecedented times. Therefore fifty percent of sales of the Pots with Attitude exhibition will go towards helping to keep the doors of the Rust-en-Vrede Gallery and Clay Museum open. The “Cube” was created as a mobile exhibition space for small ceramic works. It was the brainchild of Ralph Johnson, chair of Ceramics South Africa (CSA). Although designed to be moved and assembled where needed, the “Cube” was eventually assigned to a permanent position in the Clay Museum in 2008 where the work of members of CSA continues to be exhibited. Hennie conceptualised this installation of anthropomorphic Pots with Attitude specifically for the “Cube” as part of the 2020 series of exhibitions with “The Figure” as
One of the pots of the Pots with Attitude exhibition. theme. Playful and fun, made in the weird, surreal and unsure times of lockdown, each work functions as a freestanding vase or as a wall vase with very different attitudes on both sides. As with people, there is more to each piece than meets the eye. The Pots with Attitude exhibition will be on until 23 September or until stocks last.

the public in general positive in this time of fear.” On the first day of lockdown the church started with sharing short messages via WhatsApp and Facebook daily. “We also conducted our Sunday service on these platforms.” He says when level three of the lockdown was implemented, they realised that they still will not be allowed to sing in church, despite the regulations allowing for 50 people at a time to attend a service. “After some prayer, the idea came about of the drive-in church format.” Combrinck says they immediately asked for permission from the church’s immediate neighbours to host church in such a format. They also obtained permission from the local police station. “They all generously granted permission.” Combrinck says he believes their church to be the first to come up with this idea in Cape Town. “And as far as we know, the second in South Africa.” “This is understandably a new concept, and we made a fairly slow start. We however do have interest from even non-members in the services. Rain is of course a difficulty, but we try to be innovative even when it rains,” the spiritual leader says. The AFM Bothasig has been in existence since about 1970 and has a record 120 members attending it from areas across Cape Town. “Attendance is growing slowly with even the neighbours joining us from home,” says Combrinck. The Sunday service starts at 09:00. The church is located in Van Vrede Street.
Bothasig church had to come up with a new way of sharing the Word with its members during the ongoing lockdown period. This new way entails having the pastor stand in front of the church building while congregants remain inside their vehicles parked in the church yard listening attentively, explains pastor Dawid Combrinck, leader of the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM). He told TygerBurger as a church they had to be innovative in this difficult time, hence the new drive-in church service which they came up with. During the service the church leader is also accompanied by the praise and worship team who leads the members in song with a sound system outside. “Everybody attending remains inside the car with a maximum of three persons as per the lockdown regulations, inside the vehicle. After about 15 minutes of worship the pastor delivers the message posted on Facebook and WhatsApp the same morning. “People in the cars keep their masks on during the service if they open their windows. “At the end of the service, one person with a face mask and shield then collects an offering from those who wish to give. On the first morning we had to mark out parking, however, now after only a few services our people park in a way that they can easily see the pastor and the worship team,” explains Combrinck. Combrinck, who has been a pastor at the church since 1991, says when the Covid-19 pandemic started earlier this year he anticipated that some form of lockdown or restriction would be implemented. “I realised that some normal activities in church would be regarded as dangerous in spreading the virus, which was proven correct. I also realised that we needed to be very invent- Neighbours of the AFM Bothasig, Carol-Anne Innes and ive in order to keep our members and her husband, Edward, also joined in during a prayer.

Musiek bring mense bymekaar CARINA ROUX
I
Kaartjies kos R45 en is by Webtickets beskikbaar. Die program is: Saterdag 11 Julie om 17:00: ACDC Tribute deur Recreating Vinyl Band; Vrydag 17 Julie: Cape Town Rock met drie plaaslike groepe; Saterdag 18 Julie om 17:00: Tasché; Saterdag 25 Julie: Lollos; Saterdag 25 Julie om 17:00: Theuns Jordaan; Vrydag 31 Julie: Suid Afrikaanse Diva’s met Leah, Le-Lue, Nadia Louw en Natisha.
Tasché Burger is in Saterdag 18 Julie se Biltongsessie te sien.

Informal traders urged to register The City is encouraging informal traders who have not yet registered with the City’s database to do so in order to trade legally. Informal traders who are registered with the City’s database, have Covid-19 lockdown permits, or who have concession letters, are allowed to trade. “The City has always acknowledged the relevance and contribution of informal trading to the economic and social life of Cape Town,” Grant Twigg, Mayco member for urban management, says in a statement. “While the City continues to make every effort to support this vital sector, it is also important for informal traders to comply with the informal trading by-law and other applicable laws, as well as trade as per approved trading plans.” The City’s officers are also responding to complaints regarding illegal trading and promise to continue doing so. “Urban management compliance officers and community ambassadors are continuously checking the informal trad-
ing permits and ensuring that overtrading of bays are seen to.” He urged unemployed individuals to apply for an informal trading permit. South African citizens will need to provide their IDs and foreign nationals will need to provide proof of their legal status in South Africa. “Also, informal traders are advised that their lockdown trading permits obtained under alert level 4 and 5 are still valid for alert Level 3. Traders with these permits, who have not yet registered with our e-services portal/database, are encouraged to also please consider doing so to ensure they can continue earning a living within the confines of the law, once the national lockdown is lifted.” Apply for an informal trading permit by completing the online application on the City’s e-services website. For more information call 021 400 3131 (option 6 for informal trading) or email informal.trading@capetown.gov.za Report non-compliance to City law enforcement on 0860 765 423.

Micah, Keziah and Timothy Claassen ready to do their bit for the Lockdown Heroes Challenge.
Scouts do their bit A
number of Scouts, Cubs and Meerkats from the Durbanville/Kraaifontein (DK) Sea Scouts took part in the Lockdown Heroes Challenge to help feed the needy during lockdown. The challenge was to either run 1km or to complete a set of aerobic exercises every day for 15 days at their homes. The aim was to raise a minimum of R150 each – enough for a food parcel to feed a family of four for a week. Participants were encouraged to ask their families and friends to sponsor them. According to Rachel Johnson, treasurer of the group, a total of R13 815 was raised for this worthy project, of which R10 000 was donated to charities. These include the Peninsula School Feeding Association, the Durbanville Baptist
Church – for crisis relief in Delft, Fisantekraal and other local areas, and U-turn, an organisation that provides meals to the homeless. “The remainder of the money is being used to put together food parcels and vegetable boxes. The DK Rovers will pack these items and deliver them to families in the immediate community, which are affected by Covid-19,” Johnson said. “These members have proven that even in lockdown they can live up to their promise. Meerkats can be ‘kind and stand tall’, Cubs can ‘do a good turn to somebody every day’ and Scouts can ‘help other people at all times’,” she said. V Call Angela Hillier on 072 867 9911 for more information about the DK Sea Scouts or to donate towards the Lockdown Heroes Challenge.

Public warned against fraudsters lost. The buyers never received their puppies,” Mostert says. The victims were also billed for transportation and a whole range of other services, he says. There was also bank fraud committed, Mostert explains. “Cases have been reported where the complainants applied for loans at institutions only to find out after paying administration fees that the sites where they applied for the loan, is not an official site, but a fraudulent one.” As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown more people seem to be doing business online, he says. The public are therefore advised to follow these steps to safeguard them from falling victim to these crimes: . Do research into entities and sellers before buying and paying. . Arrange to hand over the property after the transaction is cleared by the bank. Contact the bank to find out what type of payment was made and if it is above board. . Insist on seeing the buyer’s identity document and address. . Take note of the areas or location where the sellers are from and the area where the bank account is kept. . Check your bank statements regularly. “Keep in mind that there are scamsters out there ready to seize the opportunity to defraud people,” Mostert says.
Transitorooftog by bank in Parow @richardjohn_rj Die Parow-polisie het bevestig ’n transitorooftog het verlede week by ’n bank in die gebied plaasgevind. Kapt.

lue lights and sirens filled Pentz Drive in Table View on Wednesday 1 July to pay tribute to Capt Lombard Kenneth (52) who passed away due to Covid-19 complications recently. Approximately 80 vehicles were seen which includes some of Lombard’s family, police from Table View and Milnerton, several neighbourhood watches and community policing forums who took part to pay their respects. Lombard, who served in the police for nearly 30 years, was pronounced dead on Friday, 26 June after falling ill with coronavirus symptoms. The Table View police officer was admitted to Milnerton Mediclinic
when his condition worsened. This marks the Table View police station’s first confirmed death related to the virus. Laura Outhet, Table View Neighbourhood Watch media liaison, said it was an extremely emotional send-off and beautiful tribute. “We honoured him and his family as well as our entire police family. Our police members are on the front line and we have the utmost respect for our members. They care about our community and truly go above and beyond in the line of duty. What a beautiful community we are part of. Thank you to all the organisations that took part and came to pay their respects. Our condolences go to Lombard’s family and friends and colleagues,” Outhet said. Police officers finished off the proceedings with a guard of honour salute.
NSRI assists man in Table Bay KAILIN DANIELS @k10daniels The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) assisted an 18-year-old man on board a local yacht at sea in the Table Bay vicinity on Sunday 5 July. The man suffered an emergency medical condition and the NSRI Table Bay duty crew launched a sea rescue craft accompanied by the Life Healthcare paramedics. NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon, said that on the arrival of the sea rescue craft at the yacht outside of the Port of Table Bay, an NSRI medical crew boarded the yacht and initiated medical care. “The sea rescue craft, Spirit of Vodacom, arrived on the scene. “A paramedic was transferred onto the yacht to assist the NSRI medics. “The teenager was stabilised and mak-

ing a good recovery from a medical reaction. “The skipper was advised to return to shore and have the teenager, who was out of danger and in a stable condition, seen to by a doctor,” Lambinon said. The NSRI has since appealed to the public to be cautious around the coast as the high tide phase peaked on Sunday 5 July. “The concern is for smaller vessels at sea navigating through the conditions as well as for beach goers and coastal hikers who may be caught off-guard by large waves at Spring high tide that could potentially sweep them off the rocks along the shoreline,” said NSRI CEO Dr Cleeve Robertson. Robertson added, “We are appealing to boaters, paddlers, beach goers, surfers, coastal hikers, anglers and the public to be cautious around the coastline and to follow weather forecasts.”

Bothasig police issued a statement in which they warn the public against fraudsters robbing people of their hard earned money. WO Jacques Mostert, police spokesperson, says according to their head of detectives, Capt Carleigh Noemdo, there has been an increase in the number of cases in which people are being scammed. The most popular method of scamming is where someone would buy various items on the internet, without having seen the seller. The modus operandi involves the unsuspecting buyer paying for the item, with the assumption that it will be delivered. This unfortunately sometimes never happens, Mostert says. Detectives are also investigating cases in which the sellers of advertised property on the internet are contacted by a potential buyer, but who never proceeds to pay for the item. “The seller would be happy to see that payment is reflecting in their bank account and will proceed to hand over the item, but later on, the transaction will be reversed and disappear.” Mostert says the “buyer” often also sends someone else to collect the item. “In two recent cases, advertisements of people selling puppies on the internet were acted upon. In both of these cases the so-called sellers were allegedly from the Northern Cape and selling pedigree dogs. A considerable amount of cash was

KENNISGEWING AANGAANDE DIE HERSIENING VAN DIE VOORLOPIGE AANSOEK VIR DIE OPSKORTING VAN DIE ‘NUWE AANLEG’-MINIMUM EMISSIESTANDAARDE EN VERSOEK VIR AFWYKING VAN DIE LISENSIE VIR ATMOSFERIESE VRYSTELLINGS (AEL) VIR DIE ACACIA-KRAGSTASIE
Eskom’s coal and liquid fuel-fired power stations are required to comply with the Minimum Emission Standards (MES) published under Government Notice (GN) R1207 (31 October 2018) in terms of the National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act, (NEMA:QA), Act 39 of 2004. These standards required power stations to comply with more lenient ‘existing plant’ limits from 1April 2015, and stringent ‘new plant’ limits from 1April 2020. Due to various constraints, it is not possible for all power stations to comply with the limits in the stipulated timeframes. One such power station is the Acacia liquid-fuelled Power Station, which lies in the City of Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality in the Western Cape. For this reason, in November 2019 Eskom submitted an application to the Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries (DEFF) for suspension of the new MES for Acacia Power Station. The application will be supplemented with supporting documentation including the Draft Motivation andAtmospheric Impact Report (AIR).

NEWS
The upgrading project at Chestnut Place community residential units has just been completed.
City’s residential units get a facelift The latest upgrades to the Chestnut Place community residential units in Belhar include new ceilings and roofing, the installation of new fascia and barge boards, and new gutters and downpipes. This project, which cost the City of Cape Town R2,6 million, started in early June. According to a statement all City-owned residential units undergo regular upgrades and maintenance. Mayco member for human settlements, Malusi Booi, said more upgrades and maintenance will take place in Elsies River, Langa and Ravensmead, among others. “I am very happy to see that City staff and contractors completed the project ahead of schedule and in time for the harsher winter months.” He explained that the rental units are an important part of the affordable residential ac-
commodation which provides homes to some of the most vulnerable residents. The City owns approximately 50 000 rental units that are located across various areas of the metro, making it one of the largest landlords in the country. “Apart from emergency and day-to-day maintenance to ensure the safety of our tenants now, we must also increasingly make changes to ensure our units are comfortable homes to our tenants for many more years to come. These programmes are vital and they are expensive. The City therefore is dependent on rental money to help carry maintenance costs and encourages all tenants to please pay what they can to help improve their living conditions,” said Booi. In the 2019/’20 financial year, R172 million was budgeted for overall maintenance of City rental stock.

Copper thieves busted T
he City’s metal theft unit recovered 750kg of copper cable and arrested two men in Elsies River on Monday 29 June. Mayco member for safety and security, JP Smith, said the closing of illicit channels that create a market for stolen metal is part of the unit’s strategy to discourage metal theft. He explained what led to the arrests: “The routes close to the scrap metal dealers were closely monitored for vehicles that possibly transport stolen property. A white vehicle was spotted transporting two large bags. A second vehicle
followed the lead vehicle. The vehicles were followed to a known scrap metal dealer and was stopped just outside the gates of the scrap metal dealer. The following vehicle sped off and was pursued by members of the unit. The large bags in the vehicle stopped by the officers was found to contain a large amount of cut copper cable,” he said. Smith said, the driver explained he was transporting the cable for the occupants of another vehicle following him but interestingly his description of this vehicle did not match the vehicle which fled the
Hospital registrar recovers from Covid-19 With the support from his colleagues, a registrar at Tygerberg Hospital was able to make a full recovery after testing positive for Covid-19. Dr Gideon Titus, an internal medicine registrar, was diagnosed on 27 May. Titus, a Brackenfell resident, says he is thankful to his colleagues who checked on him daily while he was recovering at home. He returned to work two weeks ago. Titus experienced a fever and severe muscle pain after being diagnosed. “The muscle pain was quite intense, making it difficult for me to move around. Fortunately I did not have any respiratory
symptoms,” he says. He now encourages his colleagues and everyone else to continue practicing good personal protective equipment habits in order to protect themselves and their families from infection. “I would also tell them to keep up the good work, as their dedication to patient care makes a huge impact,” Titus says. “Working daily with patients with severe Covid-19, I know how life-threatening the symptoms can be.”

scene. “The second vehicle was also caught by the officers and the driver taken into custody. Observations made by the officers debunked the explanation he was carrying the cable for another vehicle as there was no vehicle following him fitting that description. A link, however, was established between the two drivers and the vehicles were taken to Elsies River police station. The copper cable was identified as Prasa cable and weighed 750kg in total and has a scrap value of R55 500.” The suspects were charged for possession of stolen property.

Cyclists should keep safety in mind

RUGBY: STILL WAITING FOR GREEN LIGHT
Clubs hope for quick return W
ith the announcement last week that certain contact sports may resume training, it is yet unclear when rugby will be given the green light. SA Rugby confirmed on Wednesday 24 June that it had sought and received clarification on queries relating to the return to non-contact training, while submitting its technical preparedness report. “SA Rugby is reviewing the various options available to them to address the issues of training and the hosting of matches. “This would ensure equality of preparation and create the environment for a return to competitive action. The actual date of return-to-training will be confirmed in due course,” read a statement released by SA Rugby last week. WP Amateur Rugby manager Danny Jones says that while the revised regulations around sports during level 3 of lockdown do not include rugby, they remain focussed on being ready when the goahead is eventually given. “Preparing to return to play in-
cludes many facets, not only do we need to be Covid-ready, but we also have to return stronger than before administratively, technically and in relation to the value we offer our members. We have been hard at work with return to play planning and are fortunate to have the guidance of SA Rugby and World Rugby. “These guidelines offer tremendous value at local level and will assist clubs with a good understanding of what is required at club level,” states Jones. Courses and webinars continue to be the order of the day, but more importantly, clubs are becoming more involved administratively. “We have noticed that many clubs have deployed additional hands at their clubs to assist with matters such as player management and commercial portfolios. “These are fantastic initiatives which lend itself to the spirit of volunteerism, which sees more hands on deck at club level and allows for specific expertise and focussed delivery.
“This is an important factor for the growth of WP Club Rugby as far too often the burden of work falls to one person,” adds Jones. “On the coaching front, our WP Rugby level 2.5 course under the guidance of Jerome Paarwater and Nazeem Adams is gaining momentum. “The initial wave of coaches on the course have included several weekly training sessions with the most recent being on how to prepare and present in the digital era. “This session was particularly important for coaches as we see more online training. The skills of a coach in the future will certainly be very different from the coach of the past,” he explains. Jones reiterated the importance of clubs to bring their respective administrations into compliance in order to be in a position to obtain funding more easily through the National Lottery Fund. “We will shortly begin online sessions with our clubs to help them with the Lotto application forms.”
