T

he Table View police precinct and Table View Neighbourhood Watch (TVNW) joined forces on Friday 21 August to raise awareness against domestic violence. They held a roadblock operation on Otto du Plessis Drive near Marine Circle in

Bloubergstrand, handing out pamphlets, whistles and bookmarks. The operation was also held to mark Women’s Month, as the Table View police precinct intensifies efforts on crimes against women. From 10:00 on Friday morning a roadblock was set up, stopping motorists to hand out the domestic violence pamphlets. Table View police spokesperson, Capt Adriana Chandler, said the objective of the

activities was much-needed awareness of crimes against women, children and other vulnerable groups. “The operation was held to raise awareness about women who are victims of domestic violence. We handed out pamphlets which contain information on certain steps that need to be taken in case of domestic violence. Together with the TVNW we interacted with a few motorists in Bloubergstrand,

while members of the Table View police checked motorists’ and vehicle licenses. We need to continue to work together to ensure that women do not become victims of domestic violence,” Chandler said. TVNW members interacted with motorists, saying they are doing their part to ensure perpetrators are taken to court and justice is served for domestic violence victims. V To page 2

Police and TVNW members stopped motorists to hand out pamphlets to raise awareness of domestic violence.

Lindsay Jacobs, who went for her daily run on the beach front, said the operation was the perfect way to commemorate women’s month. “There are a lot of women who are abused at home and remain silent. We have to urge them to come forward and report these cases and to break the silence. Women constantly have to live in fear in their own homes and it’s unacceptable. As the community, we also need to show our support to women who are victims of domestic violence. More efforts from government is essential in these cases and they need to take this seriously,” Jacobs said. One of the drivers, Audrey Solomons, applauded the Table View police for their time and effort. “I was a bit nervous when I was stopped, but when I heard what the roadblock was about, I gladly engaged with the TVNW. Domestic violence is increasing daily in our country and something needs to be done to protect us women against abuse,” Solomons said. Chandler has urged the community to report domestic violence at the Table View police station.

T

he Table View police precinct has seen an increase in commercial crime in recent weeks, as residents had fallen prey to online scammers on websites. Capt Adriana Chandler, Table View police spokesperson, said that constant awareness is critical as commercial crime can cost people a lot of money and cause a great deal of distress. “The victim goes onto the site in search of a specific item to purchase and finds it on the site. Communication takes place between the seller and buyer and the seller asks that payment be deposited into a bank account. “Once the payment is made, the buyer expects delivery, but the item is never delivered. When the buyer looks again for the advertisement, it is nowhere to be found,” Chandler said. Chandler explained that in other cases, the buyer indicates that payment is made in order “to secure a quick purchase” and submits proof of payment (which is falsified), and the seller is happy. When checking their bank accounts, it is noticed that the money does not reflect. “Phishing and fraud scams are methods of deceitfully obtaining personal information such as passwords, identity numbers and credit card details by calling, sending emails or cellphone messages that look like they come from trusted sources, such as banks or legitimate companies,” she said. The Table View police precinct shared a few tips to prevent falling victim to scams and fraud: . Never respond to emails or cellphone messages appearing to be from your bank, which request your personal details. Remember that no bank will ever ask you to confirm or update your account details by email. . Never provide your online ID, password or PIN to anyone and never write them down or share them. . Do not save your internet banking password on your desktop. . Do not leave your computer unattended after you have entered your Internet banking password. . Always log off or sign off at the end of a session. . Avoid doing internet banking in public areas such as internet cafés.

Wood Drive temporarily closed W

ood Drive at the Sandown Road intersection in Parklands will temporary be closed from 24 August until 9 September for roadworks. According to the City of Cape Town, the closure is part of the Sandown Road project and the upgrade that is currently underway. The closure was initially scheduled for 19 August but had to be delayed due to inclement weather. The closure is needed to allow the contractor to rebuild the intersection at Wood Drive and Sandown Road. The project entails the construction of two additional vehicle lanes, pedestrian sidewalks, the installation of underground services and associated street lights and traffic signals. Thus, a temporary road closure is necessary. “I understand that this is a busy intersection of the road. With the easing of the levels of the national lockdown, it is envisaged that most people will be returning to places of work, and more people will be affected. However, I want to appeal to motorists and other road users to please bear with us during this time. Roadworks always come with some level of inconvenience and cannot be avoided as we need to keep on upgrading our road network. I advise road users to please plan their journeys ahead of time, and to make use of alternative and detour routes, if possible,” the City’s Mayco member for transport, Felicity Purchase, said. Adequate signage will be in place to guide road users. The MyCiTi bus stop opposite the Sandown Retail Centre will be affected as well, but temporary bus stops are located along Sandown Road to the east and west of the Wood Drive intersection. Alternative routes from Sandown Road to Wood Drive will be via Braselton Road, Whitehall Way or Koeberg Road as indicated on the traffic management plan.

Beach clean-up held for Liam KAILIN DANIELS @k10daniels

A

beach clean-up was held at Table View beach on Saturday 22 August to commemorate the one year anniversary of Liam van Niekierk’s non-fatal drowning. One year ago, on the 17 August 2019, Van Niekerk was participating in a beach clean up with his class. He dove into a sandbank which resulted in him injuring his cervical spine and inhaling water. He was pulled from the water by his friend Jordan Lee and nurse Karen Jackson. Nicky Rheeder, public relations manager for Community Medics, said Van Niekerk’s girlfriend, Nikita Coskey, contacted emergency medical services. The Community Medics Response vehicle that drove past, was flagged down. The day was organised in honour of his life being saved by Community Medics members, his friend, a nurse who was on the beach and bystanders who had learnt CPR. “After being resuscitated two more times at the hospital, Liam underwent surgery and was admitted to the ICU. Initially a prognosis of paralysis was given and his family were informed that he would not be able to breathe unaided. Over time and with intensive rehabilitation therapy Liam was able to

gain movement. Against all odds, he passed his drivers licence a month ago and is able to drive an unmodified vehicle. He has also recently begun running and although he experiences some difficulties, he is making progress,” Rheeder said. The beach clean up was attended by some of the nurses who cared for him in the ICU, classmates from his school, friends, family and Community Medics members. Rheeder added “Fabio Morreira, Bengi Goldberg and Kim Norton, the crew on the response vehicle on the day of the incident, also attended the celebration. Liam was finally able to finish the clean up he had started a year ago.” The event was also used as a fundraising opportunity for Community Medics, which is a voluntary organisation funded by debit orders and donations from community members and local businesses. Community Medics operates in two divisions covering Melkbosstrand to Milnerton, the City Bowl, the Atlantic Seaboard area and the Southern Suburbs from Rondebosch to Tokai. Volunteers are HPCSA registered medics. Community Medics thanked everyone on social media who participated in the cleanup. “Thank you to those who joined us in

Sewer blocks continue in Blouberg vans and cars at the sewerage pump up the road on Sandown Road. “We are not people to riot and cause mayhem to get our way. We are decent upstanding citizens, working hard. So please find the right engineer to fix this sewerage pump”. The City of Cape Town’s Mayco member for waste and water, Xanthea Limberg, said the pump station has been upgraded and has sufficient capacity to service the area. “Teams attending to service requests in the area have been requested to provide feedback on their findings about the nature of the problem as soon as possible. “In the event that it is caused by blockages, as suspected, this problem will persist for as long as inappropriate materials are flushed down the system. “The pump station management has no

Fuming residents in Blouberg Sands have been complaining for months of sewage blocks and overflowing toilets in the area. They say, this is a serious health hazard, putting them at risk of contracting diseases. A resident who would like to remain anonymous, who has been residing in Sandown Road in Blouberg Sands since November 2019, said his toilet blocks up between three and eight days at a time. “Since then up to now you have to make your own plans on how and what you will do with your toilet. “We are renting, so the rental agents at a stage explained that it is not a problem at the living units itself but is coming from the

pump stations of the City, therefore the council is responsible to fix this. Needless to say many, many complaints were lodged by the rental agents to the council, which would take days to action. The stench of the raw sewage hanging in the air and even coming through our drains and basins is unbearable at times,” he said. Residents contacted their local ward councillors for assistance, who addressed the issue, but only helped for a short period. “Again this helped for a short while, but recently the sewage system is just becoming worse and worse with seemingly no solution in the near future. The time periods in between the blockages is becoming shorter and shorter and this is no joke anymore,” he explained. Another resident said there are always

record of overflows resulting from this pump station failing in the past 12 months,” Limberg said. She explained that overflows are likely being caused due to blockages, which are most often the result of misuse of the sewer system. “This can be in the form of rubble being dumped in manholes, or the flushing of foreign materials such as wet wipes, feminine hygiene products, cloth rags, condoms etc. Residents should please be reminded that only toilet paper and human waste should be flushed down the toilets. “Oil or fat from cooking is particularly problematic as it builds up on the inside of pipes, acting like glue to any of these materials as they travel through the system,” Limberg said.

Huis Jabes-inwoners verras met polisiebesoek Lede van die Parow-polisie het onlangs besoek afgelê by Huis Jabes as deel van Vrouemaand-feesvieringe. Die polisie het ook tydens sy besoek sy “Women you have value”-program daar bekend gestel om meer bewusmaking te skep oor vrouemishandeling. Kapt.

As thousands of plastic bottles washed ashore on Milnerton beach near the lighthouse, volunteers jumped in to assist with the clean-up. Residents in the area blame the shocking sight on irresponsible beachgoers who constantly litter on the beach.

housands of plastic bottles washed ashore on Milnerton beach near the lighthouse on Friday 21 August. Residents expressed their shock at the sight of what they refer to as a “wave of plastic bottles”, blaming the mess on irresponsible beachgoers. Save A Fishie, who is responsible for most of the clean ups on Milnerton beaches, came to the rescue and held an emergency cleanup. Zoë Prinsloo from Save A Fishie said more than 140 bags of litter were removed from the beach on Friday 21 August. “Friday was a day I won’t forget in a long time. After seeing a post from a Milnerton resident about a huge plastic washout on the beach, I kept my promise and my mom and I were there at 09:00, bags and gloves in hand. What I saw, shocked me. Never have I ever seen such a sight! “Literally thousands of plastic bottles and tins had washed up on the shore. It was horrific to say the least,” Prinsloo said. Eager volunteers jumped in and assisted with the clean up, removing not only plastic bottles and tins, but nappies and nets as well. A group of ladies from LOK Consulting picked up the litter from 08:00 until 14:30. “I want to thank each and every one for their hard work and lovely attitude and spirit. Carrying 49 garbage bags, some very heavy, over 2km of beach sand is not for the fainthearted. “With the first truck load of over 90 bags having already gone to the recycler, and these 49 bags, that brings a total of about 140 bags of litter off the beach. And this being done by only between 20 and 25 people is

amazing. Thank you so much to those few who did come to help and to those few that came just as we had finished, but who still took bags to go and clean whatever we couldn’t,” she said. The Milnerton Central Residents Association expressed their gratitude to the volunteers for their time and effort. “Huge thanks to the volunteers who have come alone or in groups to clean up. It’s hard and disheartening and weeks of work, but so appreciated and needed. Thank you for caring for our ocean. “Every bit of plastic removed prevents micro plastics long term. There was a beautiful sunset until you noticed all the litter washed out of the stormwater drains and into the Diep River and onto the beach. Not good enough, City of Cape Town,” they said in a post on Facebook. Prinsloo said she was disappointed that more people did not turn up to help after complaining about the plastic bottles on social media. She added, “I must say that I was bitterly disappointed that more people didn’t come and help. So often people complain about the state of our beaches, about the pollution, about the plastic, but then come and help. If we had more hands, it may have taken half the time. “Talking on Facebook and moaning on community groups is not enough. We need your physical help. We need a change of attitude. It may not be our litter, but it is our planet. I understand people can’t always come on a weekday, but would like to encourage everyone to just take one bag with them when they go for a walk as every little bit helps.” To assist in future clean ups, contact Prinsloo at save.a.fishie@gmail.com.

Charity locked down How you can help As the Covid-19 crisis continues and many people are struggling to make ends meet, non-profit organisations (NPOs) and non-government organisations (NGOs) are trying to provide support to those that need it most. These organisations have lost most of their income from fundraising events and need your help to continue giving care. TygerBurger is making it easier for you to contribute responsibly by featuring accredited and/or legitimate organisations that will distribute your donation to the right people. To be featured here registered NPOs and NGOs or those with clear proof of their donations/activities can email a description of their service, NPO number (if applicable) and contact details to nielen.deklerk@tygerburger.co.za. Please include specific needs and a drop-off point, if possible. V Mes Cape Town is looking for blankets and warm clothing for the homeless they work with. Shoes (in small sizes and in good condition) are also much appreciated. Drop-offs can be made at their office in Davis Street, Bellville. V The Cape Kidney Organisation has not been able to host any fundraising events which is their main source of income. This has had a devastating effect on the organisation’s efforts to assist the indigent kidney patients with food parcels. Their main focus areas are Groote Schuur and Tygerberg hospitals. They have registered with BackaBuddy and are appealing for monetary donations: https://www.backabuddy.co.za/cape-kidney-covid-19.

Diefwe-

Met die Covid-19 is dit gekanselleer, soos so baie ander operasies gekanselleer is in dié tyd, so

Dink ’n bietjie daaroor, as jy wil hê jou kind moet weet hoe lyk ’n seeskilpad, dan moet jy ’n verskil begin maak. Neem jou eie sakke winkel toe. Begin minder plastiek gebruik. Dink weer voor jy ja sê vir ’n plastieksak. Onthou, jy kan ’n verskil maak. Hou die aarde skoon! Doen jou deel! ERIK E-pos

We need to defend ourselves Sadly, not a week goes by without a story of violence against children and women in South Africa. Living in a township, I can see crime getting worse by the day and I cannot help but wonder what action our government is taking to stop the abuse of our mothers, sisters and all the young children. “At an emergency sitting of parliament, Mr Ramaphosa said the figures for violence against women and children were similar to those of a country at war,” reported BBC News! This statement clearly shows us that women and children are under siege in our own country, at the hands of our very own fathers, brothers, and boyfriends. Praise the Lord for men like Pieter van der Westhuizen, who stood in the gap and protected an untold number of women and children, by using lethal force against three armed men who were threatening the lives of innocent church goers – he not only protected his own life, but saved the lives of all those present (“Centurion church shooting: Joost’s brother shoots, kills 2 men during robbery”, News24, 27 July). Only God knows what could have happened if Mr Van der Westhuizen was not armed and willing to stand against the threat on the lives of the innocent. We, Christians, are not called to hand ourselves over to criminals. Avoiding self-defence only encourages criminals – when we create a risk-free environment for them. Author and missionary, Charl Van Wyk, wrote, “One may find this fact an inconvenient truth, but the only person who can stop a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun. Tellingly in today’s times, this is treated as a controversial statement. But it is self-evident that unarmed victims are pretty helpless. It’s a reality not lost on attackers.” God bless Pieter van der Westhuizen for practicing his right and duty of self-defence and defending the lives of many others! Skree saam met Dolla CARINA ROUX

O

Gelukkig

Ster-Kinekor cinemas reopen All Ster-Kinekor cinemas in the Western Cape, except the V&A Waterfront, will be reopening on Friday 28 August. The cinemas will operate with new safety procedures to ensure compliance with directives set out by government. Each theatre will be permitted a maximum of 50 guests per auditorium (excluding staff). Some of the new measures include regulated seating, marked foyer floors to manage social distancing, and longer show staggers to manage the number of people in the foyers at a time. To limit contact, no transactions will take place in cinema and all movie tickets and snacks must be purchased through the Ster-Kinekor App or website. After the show guests will be required to exit the auditorium row-by-row starting from the back of the cinema. Guests are reque-

sted to remove their empty snack containers to discard in the dustbins in the cinema foyers. The enhanced cleaning protocol will include sanitising frequently touched surfaces in the cinema. “Before we open our doors, we will use a misting device to treat all our auditoria, as well as our lounge areas, foyers, hand railings and seats,” says Ster-Kinekor’s deputy CEO, Motheo Matsau. The cinemas will be sanitised before and after each show and the cleaning time will be prolonged to ensure all the seats and surfaces are clean and safe. Masks and temperature screening will be compulsory when entering the cinema foyer, but masks may be temporarily removed in the auditorium to enjoy the refreshments. Staff will be screened at each shift.

Dit sal in November in boekvorm verskyn by Lapa Uitgewers.

Relief for NPOs and PBOs The City of Cape Town is calling on all registered non-profit and public benefit organisations (NPO and PBO) to apply for humanitarian food relief services. The City’s urban management directorate has secured R25 million for food relief during the 2020/2021 financial year as a result of the current Covid-19 pandemic which has left thousands of vulnerable communities affected. The City’s Mayco member for urban management, Grant Twigg, said a track record of operations is required. “Registered NPOs and PBOs must have experience in the preparation and distribution of cooked meals as well as the distribution of raw food products and the direct supervision of community-based organisations for the preparation and the distribution of cooked meals. “They should have at least three months’ experience operating soup or food kitchens and should be able to provide nutritional well-balanced meals to

This awareness week is sponsored by Identipet and held in partnership with Primal Culture Tattoo Studio for the second time running. Spokesperson for the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, Belinda Abraham, said the proceeds of each tattoo done at the price of R700 during the seven day tattoo-a-thon will go directly towards covering the costs of animal rescue. “So, no matter what tattoo you choose for whatever reason you’ve chosen it – your tattoo will also be symbolic of your commitment to a kinder world for animals. In fact,

the tattoo will symbolise two animal rescues. “It costs the SPCA R350 on average to respond to each call received for an animal in crisis. Whether they are chained to the spot, exposed to the elements, being cruelly beaten, forced to fight, starving or sick, injured and in pain the Cape of Good Hope SPCA is committed to respond to every call we receive. As a non-governmental organisation, we are completely reliant on public funds and support of this event will ensure that we can keep our inspectors mobile and able to reach the many animals that need us.” Book your spot by calling 021 707 1299 or email info@primalculture.co.za.

Short taste of freedom for escapee A suspect who escaped police custody had a short taste of freedom before being caught four days after his daring stunt. Capt Kevin Williams, Parow police spokesperson, identified the suspect as 27-year-old Zubair Nel. Nel escaped on Monday 17 August. Williams told TygerBurger that Nel was charged with two counts of attempted murder and that he was being kept in the holding cells at the Parow police station. According to him while in the holding cells

Nel threatened a fellow inmate who was set to be released on Wednesday. “He instructed the fellow inmate not to respond when his name is called out, and that he would respond instead. If the victim did not comply he was told gangsters would kill him and his family,” Williams explained. Nel apparently escaped from custody under a false pretence when he was wrongfully released. A search ensued and Nel was caught on Friday 21 August, according to De-

on Maneveld, Community Policing Forum chairperson. Mug shots of Nel were also circulated on social media. In the posts, Nel, who is also known by the name Arab, was described as “armed and dangerous”. Williams said Nel’s first court appearance was on Tuesday 11 August, and that he was expected to reappear at the Bellville magistrate’s court on Tuesday last week. Western Cape police spokesperson, Sgt Noloyiso Rwexana, confirmed the escape. She says the circumstances surrounding the escape from police custody by Nel are under investigation. - Richard Roberts

Public bathrooms a fest for germs

T

he reopening of restaurants and pubs last week led to an increase in foot traffic at public spaces, placing a new demand on public toilet facilities, especially as far as cleaning routines are concerned. “When people visit a restroom at a busy public space such as a mall or a restaurant, they will expect that the facility is cleaned properly and fully functional. “All required health and safety measures must be in place for a safe and hygienic setting, otherwise thousands of people could potentially be exposed to any number of viruses or bacteria which they could then transport with them as they move around,” says Emma Corder of Industroclean, a manufacturer and supplier of industrial cleaning equipment and products. Recent surveys and research reports have detailed the many viruses and bacteria that could be found inside a public restroom, long before the arrival of the coronavirus. One journal found genetic traces of more than 77 000 kinds of bacteria and viruses in restrooms. Shopping centre management experts say there is a list of guidelines that are usually followed when it comes to keeping restrooms clean and it would be wise for managers responsible for heading up cleaning operations to abide by laws and regulations such as the National Environmental Management Act (Nema) and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Ohasa) as guidelines. Keeping public spaces clean and safe must be a team effort; the responsibility cannot just rest on the shoulders of centre management. “It should never be assumed that hygiene measures in place pre-Covid-19 will still be sufficient. Enhanced cleaning in public toilet areas is required. Tackle this armed with an extensive cleaning plan, and increase the frequency of cleaning based on a proper risk assessment,” says Corder. Enhanced monitoring of restroom facilities is required to ensure that proper hygiene is maintained. She advises a two-step process, first cleaning surfaces with soap and water and then disinfecting to remove viruses and bacteria. Only approved disinfectant, not detergent-based products, must be used. These products must comply with the minimum safety requirements and must be registered by the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS). Corder says it is advisable to replace reusable equipment like fabric towels and baby changing mats with disposables. “Covid-19 survives on hard surfaces present in toilets for at least 72 hours. “Areas of particular concern are the frequently touched areas including toilet flush buttons, toilet seats, cubicle locks and handles, taps, paper towel and soap dispensers and door handles on access or entry points” The public need to also do their part and stick to the three basics of wearing a mask at all times, even in the cubicle and to use a tissue or paper towel to turn off the faucet. “Being vigilant during these times is key to staying safe. I believe that the use of the right products, proper training and equipping of staff, and the public playing their part will help all of us to stay safe and healthy,” adds Corder.

Bonsai Estate ignites launch with R100 000 offer MSP Developments recently launched a new signature development called Bonsai Estate on a prime pocket of land in the heart of everpopular Langeberg Ridge in Durbanville. Very accessible pricing, a natural environment with 28 existing trees on site, landscaped parks and recreational areas have seen prelaunch interest and contracts with a combined sales value in excess of R25 million already signed. To add to the attraction of the estate, MSP Developments – who are known for excellent inducements and competitive offerings – has released a limited offer of R100 000 rental assistance for 30 of the 120 luxury apartments. Says MSP Developments chief executive officer (CEO) Riaan Roos: “This is a limited launch offer, where purchasers of 30 selected apartments at Bonsai Estate will receive a massive R100 000 early-bird buyer saving if they seal the deal by 31 October 2020. “Given that the apartments are already attractively priced, at from only R1 399 900, or R9 550 per month (calculated at prime over a 30-year-term), this R100 000 injection will be a substantial boost for the 30 lucky buyers. Potential purchasers are acutely aware of the at-

tractive interest rate currently on offer and are looking for great deals. The Bonsai Estate apartments offer just this and make for an excellent investment buy, with an anticipated gross yield of 8%. “With our strategic partners we invested considerable time in researching the market and planning this project, and believe that our designs, finishes, landscaping, amenities, security and unique location will set Bonsai Estate apart from anything else currently on offer in the area. It is being developed on a prime site, on the last pocket of land in a mature, well-located suburb. It promises to be a flagship scheme offering outstanding value in terms of location, lifestyle and choice to both young professionals and families. Once complete there will be 120 apartments and 94 freestanding homes.” Bonsai Estate is ideal for contemporary family living and will feature a number of landscaped parks and recreational areas, including a one-of-a-kind children’s play area designed in conjunction with leading play equipment manufacturer Wooden Elements. There will also be a kick-about field. The initial set of apartments to which the rental assistance offer of R100 000 applies are two bedrooms,

KILLARNEY: RACING ACTION RETURNS

Young guns rule restart M

otor racing returned to Killarney International Raceway on Saturday 22 August after nearly six months of lockdown as the Short Circuit categories led the way with a day of tightly fought contests. With no less than 20 entries, the CBR150 riders provided action and excitement throughout the field in all three of their races.

Safa CT wants policy revised EARL HAUPT @earlhaupt With much of South Africa already settled into level two lockdown regulations, many local sport fraternities are gearing up to return to action. While the Covid-19 pandemic continues to reshape the way we live our lives, the City of Cape Town says there are no plans to re-purpose its sports facilities. Mayco member for community services and health, Zahid Badroodien, confirms that while no activity has been able to take place at facilities run under the auspices of the City, there are no plans to convert and transform its venues. “The department does not have a specific usage policy but acts in accordance with the national Covid-19 regulations and directions of what is allowed and what not.

“Sporting organisations/federations/ bodies apply to the minister and submit plans for the resumption of their specific codes,” says Badroodien. A few weeks ago, the City released a statement on its plans in preparing sports facilities for the potential resumption of sporting activity and once a sporting body has been granted the certificate of compliance to return to activity by the national government, they are certainly welcome to return to City-run facilities. “A letter/memo has been sent to federations guiding what is required for sports activities to return at City facilities. “There are no special requirements with regards to the resumption of the use of facilities that have not been in use for several months. “It remains the responsibility of the club that uses the facility to adhere to the disas-

Main circuit and national star, Kewyn Snyman, had an up-anddown day, leading the senior class in the first and third races, but dropped out of race two to finish third for the day. Braddon Hutchings finished second in race one, won race two and came home fifth in race two, which was just enough to give him first overall for the day on a countback from Jason Linaker, who was third in race one and second in races two and three. David Lindemann pulled off a classy win in the junior class of the first CBR150 race, ahead of arch-rival, Slade van Niekerk, and a hardcharging Connor Hagan. Van Niekerk took revenge, however, with two fine wins in the remaining races.
