DELEGATE’S HANDBOOK

SHIFTING GEARS DRIVE THE CHANGE

We are shifting gears in order to get our delegates to think more about the issue at hand rather than the solution, and then take action based on their findings.

Dear Delegate, Welcome to our fourth annual UBC Social Enterprise Conference, put together by a group of passionate students who strive to create changemakers. Over the past 3 years we have introduced delegates to the concept of Social Entrepreneurship, we’ve taught them how to create solutions that are feasible, and we’ve highlighted the importance of scalability. The underlying passion of solving a social or environmental issue is the basis for success in any impact driven business. This year, we’d like to challenge you to dream up your own innovative ideas and solutions. Our theme, “Shifting Gears: Drive the Change,” will inspire you to think deeper about issues faced by society, both local and global. We aim to ‘shift the gears’ by providing you with a toolbox which will enable you to realize your passions through Social Enterprise. Whether that be through our company and issue-based workshops or through the wise words of our keynote speakers- we want to challenge your existing ideas so that you can reach new, innovative and creative solutions. We hope to bring together those who are well-versed in social entrepreneurship and those who are new to the field to create an environment of learning and collaboration. We are excited to host a diverse network of professionals representing various companies and issues on the beautiful campus of The University of British Columbia. We strive to host a zero-waste conference whilst creating a ‘net positive’ change. While we hope you will join us in making this conference a success, we also want you to help us create and inspire the changemakers of tomorrow. Cheers,

Archana Kannan Co-Chairperson, SEConference
