[LIQUID MOMUMENTALITY]: Liquid monumentality critiques the relevance of the monument in the 21st century. It claims that public function is ultimately the most important aspect of monumentality. We are now reclaiming the public forum, previously occupied by sociopolitically-regressive static monuments, for collective issues that foster a sustained dialogue among people united by common interests. [GOAL]: Our proposal aims to take the now necessary fluid nature of the monument combined with a more realistic depiction of human life and society to create the monument of the 21st century. This challenges the role of architecture in the society, instead of being a tool of oppression, false representation and exclusivity it can be a sort of mirror looking outwards to the imperfect, the untold stories, the oppressed and the underprivileged, so as to tell a more precise story of human life.

audience : diverse Black men and women living in Alberta’s biggest cities make significantly less money than their non-Black counterparts. Black women and men in Calgary and Edmonton are between 1½ and 2 times more likely to be unemployed than the rest of the population. Unemployment rates for Black women and men were more than one and a half times higher than those for women and men in the rest of the population in Alberta’s biggest cities. Unemployment rates are higher among Indigenous individuals in every Canadian province and territory, compared to the rest of the population. Indigenous unemployment rates are higher than those of the rest of the population in every Canadian province and territory. Even when Indigenous and nonIndigenous groups have the same level of education, they do not experience the same employment rate success. Black and Indigenous people are overrepresented in federal prisons when considering their share of the overall population. The gap between the rich and the poor in Alberta is the widest in the country, and the disparity between those Albertans at the top of the income ladder and those at the bottom has been growing faster than in any other province. Alberta has the largest gender income gap in Canada. With a gender income gap of 41%, the average man in Alberta will have earned as much by Canada Day as it will take a woman the entire year to earn. The top 1% in the province earned over 46 times the income of the poorest 10%. The distribution of income is also decidedly unequal at the city level: Calgary’s top 1% of income earners lapped their poorer counterparts (the bottom 10%) 62 times, and made 10.3 times more than the middle income earners.
