JECTS Hello friends! Continuous projects are service projects that we volunteer at on a reoccuring basis. Gabe Otero is the Projects chair and in charge of the ones on the right as well as more to come (like the new Animal Shelter project).
Hands on Science is a fun and interactive way to teach and have fun. We, as UC Berkeley Circle K, go to the local elementary school for their after school program to teach science to little kids. We teach different concepts of science to children through fun and “Hands on Science” type of projects like making ice cream. Watching little kids have bags full of ice, kosher salt, sugar, vanilla,
milk, and etc, as they shake their little bags until their liquid becomes solid ice cream is a priceless moment to see. After having the hands on workshops, we explain why the liquid becomes solid ice cream. Ice cream making is one of the many fun and interactive workshops that we have throughout the school year. - VIVIAN NGUYEN

Chaparral House is a non-profit nursing home right here in Berkeley! This service project is one of our few continuous services that assist the elderly demographic. Volunteers are able to directly interact with the residents by engaging them in art projects, games, etc. Occasionally, we help prepare for parties, specific activities, and outings. This regular event is not only a perfect opportunity
to give to the community, but it is also a chance for you to meet its residents and listen to their life stories.

Start With a Story! A program that promotes literacy in the low-income, under-priveleged, and underrepresented groups in the greater Bay Area. We partner up with the local “Start with a Story” program based at the detention facility in the neighboring city of Oakland. Every other Sunday we go to Oakland and set up a table to provide free books for children and teen.

Fall concessions always brings new and returning members together for a day filled with food, fun, and football! As we arrived early Saturday morning, we hiked on over to Memorial Stadium, home of our alwayswelcoming fried chicken and waffle fries stand. We set up the condiment bar, recorded inventory, trained new members for register, and anticipated the game’s start.
Concessions tends to pick up around half time, and by then, we had lines of eager fans, waiting to get their hands on some hot dogs, popcorn, soda and other goodies. At the end of the day, we packed our things, did a final inventory count, cleaned up our mess and headed down home. It was a long day, but the bonds that were made will last a lifetime. - DONALD FRANKS

Crazy Kompetition is a unique event specifically designed for the Pediatric Trauma Program (ouuu DFI’s). Last year, we headed to Heather Farms Park in mid October to compete in teams of six against other schools in order to be crowned the champions of CKI. After playing six games, which includes jump-rope, various relays, team building, some creativity and even a bit of singing, the final round came about: pro-bending. Based on Avatar: The Last Airbender, teams had to dodgeball their way to the top until one team remained. Afterwards, many members headed on over for lunch at a local pizza restaurant to recuperate and relax after a long day. Fall Training Conference is one of our Districts Fall Events where the Circle K Clubs from all over California, Nevada, and Hawaii come together at mountain camp in Sonora, CA for the span of three days for workshops, new member installations, campfire skits and lots of fun. At FTC, this is often the first time where members are allowed to meet clubs from all across the CNH District for the first time. It allows memebers to not only meet others in different Circle K’s, but also allows everyone to bond over the same experiences and opportunities that are offered at FTC.
Taking place at the end of the year, DCON is the largest Circle K event and brings members from all over California, Nevada, and Hawaii. For members that have been apart of the club already, it serves as a celebration of past accomplishments; for newer mebers, DCON serves as a glimpse of our club’s greater role in the greater CNH District. Clubs and distinguished individuals will be recognized for their accomplishments, cheer our hearts out to show club spirit, attend educational workshops, and there’s even a dance at the end of the night to end the year on a good (and bumpin’) note!

The three-day event features service projects to better the community, socials to meet new friends and catch up with old ones, and workshops to develop our leadership and professional skills. At the end of the eventful three days, members created countless fond memories with their friends and renewed their passion for Circle K, excited to take on the new Circle K year.

FAMILY
You have probably heard that Circle K is one of the largest community service organizations at UC Berkeley. Although true, we are also Circle K International (CKI) meaning that there are more Circle K clubs across college campuses worldwide AND we are merely the collegiate branch of Kiwanis International which serves communities and people throughout the world. The Kiwanis Family consists of six branches designated for different groups wanting to serve their community: K-Kids(elementaries), Builders Club (jr. highs), Key Club (high schools), Circle K (colleges), Aktion Clubs (adults with disabilites), and our sponsoring branch, the Kiwanis (adults).

So throughout the year, build stronger relations with our other branches through service projects and socials while developing our leadership skills. KIWANIS DINEOUT Every month, we take time off school and have dinner with Berkeley Kiwanis. This gives us the opportunity to get to know our Kiwanians and for them to know us outside of service. We realize how similar we are in mutual interests and we share our adventures with each other all while exploring the food culture in Berkeley!
KIWANIS SERVICE IN Kiwanis Service In is the continuous service project with our Berkeley Kiwanis Club. Once a month, Circle K and Kiwanis meet up to work on projects such as “Reserve” that recycles used tennis balls by making them into chair slippers to keep elementary classrooms quiet and enhance students’ focus. We also make Pediatric Trauma Prevention (PTP) dolls that are donated to a local hospital for kids to have during surgery operations. Lastly, we help make home-made jam to auction off as an ELIMINATE fundraiser. As a Kiwanis Family, we work together to make these happen and also take the time to have a home-cook potluck dinner together to get to know one another.
