ASEAN Mayors Forum receives Accreditation from ASEAN
Participants of AMF 2018 in Singapore, July 7, 2018
THE creation of a stronger community can only be achieved if people in the community are given enabling environment to grow, unite, and cooperate. It is this idea that has been carried out by ASEAN Mayors Forum (AMF), an initially biennially held forum for leaders within Southeast Asia sub-region to stimulate cooperation and expand network for the creation of ONE ASEAN Community. For UCLG ASPAC that has continuously arranged and facilitated the forum, its commitment has finally received acknowledgement through the accreditation of AMF to be an entity associated with ASEAN. The accreditation will bring leaders’ voice, united under AMF platform, closer to the creation of ASEAN community and make leaders’ contribution much more impactful. This accreditation is particularly special as it is granted for the first time to a local government forum. The announcement of accreditation complemented the success of AMF 2018 in Singapore.
AMF 2018 was organised in Singapore on July 7, as a follow up of AMF 2017 in Taguig, the Philippines. Taking the theme “Building Sustainable and Smart Development in ASEAN Cities and Regions,” the forum brought together representatives of ASEAN cities to discuss sustainable and smart development for cities united under ASEAN community. The forum is a platform for leaders to exchange knowledge and update innovative best practices in their respective cities. All participating leaders agree that stronger cooperation is needed to achieve stronger ASEAN community.
