Global Meeting Point of Culture now in Asia
WITH the growing importance of culture in the framework of sustainable development as well as success of first UCLG Culture Summit, the Executive Bureau of UCLG has decided to hold the second UCLG Culture Summit on 10-13 May 2017. This time, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province was chosen to host this global event.This is to be the first gathering of world culture committee in Asia-Pacific region. This second culture summit will take on theme “Culture and Sustainable Cities.”Building on the results of the first UCLG Culture Summit, which focused on the ways cities take the lead in recognising the real need of culture in sustainable development, the second summit’s discussion will focus on messages reinforcing the role of culture in sustainable development, particularly on the importance of cities and local spaces. In this Second UCLG Culture Summit, there will be combination of plenary sessions, project presentations and networking spaces. Global city leaders, representatives of development related organizations, as well as related stakeholders are encouraged to attend this event, as it will also function as forum for knowledge-sharing, peer-learning and networking among cities and local governments. UCLG ASPAC is inviting members, especially those involved in the UCLG ASPAC Culture Committee to participate and share their experience in mainstreaming culture in overall planning and management of the cities.
