3rd Guangzhou Award Winners Announced and Launch of One Belt, One Road Magazine

IT was the third cycle of urban innovation award held in Guangzhou and 5 cities spread in 5 continents turned out to be winner of this worldwide award, Guangzhou Urban Innovation Award: Songpa-gu (South Korea), Qalyubeya Governorate (Egypt), Boston (USA), Copenhagen (Denmark), and La Paz (Bolivia). Participation of youth and community involvement as well as climate change were becoming topics of the winners. From Boston with youth participatory program spending USD1 million on project they chose; citizen culture project by La Paz in changing citizen behavior to return the freedom of road users in the street; integrated community based solid waste management by Qalyubeya city; to Copenhagen climate resilient neighborhood; and Songpa Solar Nanum power plant. USD20,000 cash prize, a trophy, and a commemorative certificate was handed to the 5 winners selected from 15 short-listed cities, out of 301 valid submissions from 171 cities in 59 countries. Apart from the award rewarding ceremony, this innovation forum was held along with sessions to inspire participants regarding innovation in urban areas, such as Global Innovation, Mobility Seminar, Ecosystem Development, New Development Concept & Urban Innovation, and Belt and The Road. The forum was also made rich with city tour session.


ONE BELT, ONE ROAD Magazine Launch

In line with the urban innovation topic, UCLG ASPAC took this opportunity to introduce its new publication “ONE BELT, ONE ROAD” magazine in the Belt and the Road forum. Symbolizing the launch ceremony, Bernadia I. Tjandradewi, Secretary General of UCLG ASPAC, gave away the magazine to 5 speakers of the forum. This ceremony was then continued with discussion. “ONE BELT, ONE ROAD” is a quarterly published magazine to inspire leaders and citizens the importance of partnership and cooperation to develop together and pursue the sustainable development. The content of the magazine covers information of best practices, motivation, leadership, and other development related issues.
