INTRODUCTION
UCLU PUBLIC AFFAIRS AND SOCIAL SERVICE SOCIETY UCLU PASS was established by a group of enthusiastic Hong Kong students in 2011. We aim to provide a platform for students from UCL to raise awareness of the social, political issues and to benefit the underprivileged through involvement in social service. Our Career and Events branch has been established since 2014 to provide Hong Kong students with career guidance and support. We strive to establish ties with firms from various industries and organize a number of careers events, including skills sessions and firm visits, with the aim of maximizing members’ exposure to careers opportunities. Every year since 2014, we organise a senioryear mentorship programme for freshers to provide assistance on their transition into university. We are pleased to be invited to coorganise the Alumni Mentorship Programme with UCL Chinese Society starting from this year.
UCL CHINESE SOCIETY The UCL Chinese Society (UCLCS) is one of the largest and well-established student societies within UCLU and the United Kingdom, with up to 200 new members joining per annum. As both an educational and cultural society, we aim to promote Chinese culture within UCL and beyond, and offering students with a Chinese background a ‘second home’ during their time at university. We also seek to provide academic and careers advice to students and act as a communication platform between our current members, alumni and the society. The Metis Association was founded in 2013 and it collaborates closely with UCLCS. Our predominant project is to organise and promote a Mentorship Programme that would link UCL undergraduates with career professionals. Apart from the Mentorship Programme, Metis Association also organises social events for all UCL students to promote a stronger harmony within UCLCS.

UCL HONG KONG ALUMNI MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME
Jointly organised by UCLU Public Affairs and Social Service Society and UCL Chinese Society Metis Association, and supported by the UCL Hong Kong Club, the UCL Hong Kong Alumni Mentorship Programme aims to offer students the opportunity to develop a mentorship relationship with alumni.
CONNECT ADVICE INSIGHT
The programme aims to offer students the opportunity to develop a mentorship relationship with alumni. Facilitating interactions and connections between both parties, the programme will allow students to gain useful insights and advice to the career they are interested in. Our mentor can offer insights of their profession to the student, and also providing useful advice on the career directions and opportunities which the student may pursue. In the future, we hope that these connections will allow students to be able to rely on their mentors as a source of trusted guidance and assistance if needed. The programme will begin with a Meetand-Greet Session during the winter holidays, followed by individual group meetings during the summer, ultimately with the aim of fostering a continued mentor-mentee relationship.

MENTEES’ FEEDBACK
“ “ “ KACY CHOU Year 2, BSc Management Science
The mentorship programme has been an enriching and invaluable experience for me both personally and professionally. My mentor last year was a consultant and a Director of a Maritime shipping company. He has experience in wide range of maritime practice from ship acquisition and ship management to project financing. He also took time off his busy schedule at his firm and shared with me his insights into the workings of the business world. I am still in touch with my mentor and I highly recommend participating in this programme.
PRUDENCE PANG Year 2, LLB Law
Through this mentorship programme, I was fortunate enough to meet a very responsible mentor, who offered me a mini-pupillage at his set of chambers and gave me a lot of useful career advice.
In sum, if not for this mentorship programme, I would not have been able to gain such valuable practical insight into a career as a barrister.
”
JAMES SIU Year 2, BSc Project Management for Construction The mentorship programme was an invaluable opportunity for me. Having assigned a really friendly and talkative mentor, I have gained rewarding insights from his experience in corporate management. Besides, I was invited to meet my mentor’s colleagues and graduated mentees at one of the networking events of his industry. Not only do the mentees have the opportunity to branch out and network with experienced mentors, but also understand the necessary steps to take after graduating from university. I definitely recommend joining this programme.
