The Australian Society of Implant Dentistry (ASID) was established in 1969 and internationally is one of only eight component societies that head-up the world’s largest implant group – the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI) with its 25,000 members spread across the globe. The ASID runs educational programs for all dental practitioners in the field of implant dentistry, from new graduates through to experienced clinicians. New graduates have found that the ASID Levels I, II and III Courses have helped to de-mystify implantology, to educate in the basic scientific aspects required for this field, and to provide opportunities for clinical mentoring when required. Safety for the patient is a high priority with this education. More than 1500 young dentists have completed the ASID Accreditation Courses, which are advertised regularly in the ADA News Bulletin. We welcome you to join us as new graduates, in our 2016 series. Colleagues are also encouraged to gather specific records in preparation for the definitive treatment of their patients, with safe, predictable and successful outcomes as a goal. Assistance and advice with cases can be just a phone call or email away, and uncritical help obtained. We also support our more experienced members with advanced courses in our Beyond Programme where we invite experts from throughout the world to present the latest research and techniques in implantology. In today’s world, knowledge about the scope and feasibility of implant dentistry is no longer just an option - it is essential. Patients expect it and even demand it. The ASID stands ready to assist you as a new graduate to become confident in prescribing implant treatment when appropriate. The Society will assist you in your learning curve as you begin to undertake implant treatment yourself. Our Beyond Programme of more advanced tuition will assist you as you grow in confidence and ability in the field. The Society looks forward to meeting you. You do not have to be a member of the ASID in order to register for the Accreditation Courses, though you are welcome to join at any time and enjoy the benefits.
