THE PRESIDENT'S farewell Specialised insurance solutions for the Dental industry.

In the blink of an eye, we are wrapping up 2019 with a wonderful year of educational and social events behind us.

Starting with our annual UDSS Prime & Bond fresher’s welcome, we saw exhilarating sports events, enlightening Journal Clubs, empowering participation in fundraising events, an elegant GV Black cocktail function and more, culminating in an extravagant sold out 2019 Dental Dinner with the splendour of the 1920’s.

In between enriching the extra-curricular time of our dental students, we have also collaborated closely with the managerial and academic teams to ensure that students continue to receive the best educational and clinical experience at the evolving UWA Dental School.

Finally, congratulations to all the final years for making it through four years of dental school and beginning on their professional journey. As they receive their degrees at graduation, I hope they carry with them fond memories of their time here and the enriching experiences the UDSS has been able to provide. To all the students still making their way through dentistry, the UDSS exists for you and, as always, we are more than happy to help with any issues that arise during the course of your degree so please do not hesitate to get in touch.

On the 23rd of November, OHCWA staff, students and members of the dental community were transported back in time to the roaring 20s for the annual UDSS Dental Dinner. The night commenced with champagne, raffle tickets and introductions in the foyer before transitioning to the main ballroom, where a jazz band created the perfect ambiance for the evening’s proceedings. Guests indulged in a three-course meal, whilst being entertained by speeches and the final year video, ensuring a sentimental but comical farewell to the Class of 2019. Following dinner, the jazz band transformed the atmosphere and brought guests to their feet. The dance floor was well and truly full by the end of their set and was followed by a DJ to close the final hours of the night. We would like to extend our warmest thanks to our sponsors of the evening – ADAWA, AIDEC, LifeCare Dental, Credabl and Smileworx Orthodontics. The night would not have been possible without your generosity. We would also like to acknowledge the hard work of the musicians, photographer, decorators and PCEC for their hard work in ensuring the night was such a success. The event was a fantastic way to farewell our time at dental school and commence graduation celebrations with the OHCWA community. Cheers! Nafiz Chowdhury and Rani Flynn

Backed by intense scrutiny The difference is in the details. For over 45 years, A-dec has been equipping and supporting government institutions and dental schools throughout the world with reliable dental solutions. When you consider the rigorous selection process—involving educators, administrators, dentists, accountants, procurement officers, property engineers, and volumes of third-party data— that’s a lot of muster to pass. Still, A-dec is the Top Choice more than 75% of the time. • More schools and government institutions worldwide use A-dec than any other manufacturer. • The vast majority of future dentists are learning on A-dec equipment. Visit a-dec.com/thedifference or call 1.800.225.010 to find out how every detail behind an A-dec solution makes for a lasting investment.

SPORTS REPORT

V

OLLEYBALL Our two volleyball teams, Triple Syringe (DMD1) and Odontoblasters (DMD2/3 + Kevin from DMD1), climbed their way to the top of the social volleyball ladder in Semester 2, and found themselves versing each other in a nail-biting final. The first match was a fairly easy win for the Odontoblasters ending in 13 - 25. After warming up in the first match, Triple Syringe put on a tough second round, but it wasn’t long before Eunice (DMD2) spiked the winning point for the DMD2/3 team, with a score ending in 21 - 25. The Odontoblasters took home the gold whilst Triple Syringe had to settle for silver. The sidelines were also filled with dentistry students cheering on their respective cohorts. Thanks for everyone who came down to watch and support! I think we can safely claim the title of Best FacSoc at Volleyball.

On Friday the 20th of September, UDSS held their annual quiz night at Hollywood Bowling Club. Eleven teams battled head to head in rounds of Art, Geography and Science to name a few. A big congratulations to the DMD2 team If the glove doesn’t fit you must acquit who came out on top!
