DISCOVER. EXPLORE. CREATE. GROW.

Digital Photography: Making + Taking Photographs MON JUNE 3 – FRI JUNE 21 Many of us take photos on a daily basis, but this course will help you develop the skills professional photographers use to create images that have impact and communicate ideas. This course focuses on developing an eye for photography through color, lighting, composition and edition. Students will be exposed to different types of photography including the difference between snapshots, portraits, studio and street photography. Through demonstrations and hands-on sessions, students will learn the basics of using cameras and imaging software to produce digital photographs. Topics include camera handling, shutter speed, aperture, focal length, RAW file formats, and composition. Using Adobe Photoshop, participants will delve into image enhancement and printing. Students will come out of the course with a foundation in photographic techniques, hands-on experience in photography, and a portfolio showcasing the work created. Instructor: Sue Montoya, MFA UF

Invisible Worlds: Painting + Drawing Beyond the Studio MON JUNE 3 – FRI JUNE 21 Invisible Worlds is observation based, process driven, and painting focused. Students will distill and reshape their visual experience through a process of abstraction by exploring science labs and libraries as visual resources. Use of microscopes will amplify our vision of micro worlds while printed images expand the possibility for making paintings. Application of color theory and design principles will guide the process as we collect images, interpret shapes and color, and transform them into a series of paintings. This course emphasizes playful experimentation; no previous experience necessary. Instructor: Logan Marconi, MFA UF

...And Action: The Role of Interactivity in Ceramic Design MON JUNE 3 – FRI JUNE 21 Working with clay, students will design, create, and complete sculptural and/or functional ceramic objects for practical, performative, or pensive interactions. This course will afford time for students to examine the concepts of inherent and latent function, pinpoint personal and specific objectives, and create projects in clay using hand-building and/or wheel-throwing techniques. Initial time spent in studio will focus on sketching, maquettes, and prototyping to aid in technical and formal development. Weekly themes will focus on brainstorming / ideation, animation / simulation, and performance / realism. Students should expect a combination of intensive studio making, experimentation of materials and concepts, collaboration, and opportunities for innovation as they complete a full-scale project of their own design. Instructor: Cheyenne Rudolph, MFA UF
