PURSUE YOUR PASSION. CREATE YOUR LIFE! Your First Two Years

STUDIO ART PROGRAMS All levels of experience are welcome. The first semester studio art major at the University of Florida is immersed in critical thinking and conceptual development through the WARP program (Workshop for Art Research and Practice). WARP provides incoming students with an innovative and comprehensive introduction to the study, research and practice of art in the twenty-first century. Projects span a variety of potential media, including but not limited to painting, drawing, design, sculpture, installation, photography/film as well as performance art. These and other media are further explored in additional foundation courses that help prepare students to select a concentration and prepare for their upper division portfolio review. In addition to the studio experience, students study the history of art through several challenging art history classes that explore the history and diversity of art from around the world. ART HISTORY PROGRAM Art history majors begin the program exploring the history of western and non-western art through art history survey courses taught by internationally recognized and published faculty. During the first two years, art history majors also develop proficiency through the intermediate level of a foreign language. Guided by faculty and advisors, the language is selected based on relevance to the student’s research interests in art history. During the sophomore year, art history majors have the opportunity to begin taking advanced level art history courses that provide a more detailed exploration of art history in a particular time and region.
