Il 13 maggio 1917 la Madonna apparve a tre pastorelli presso la Cova da Iria, a Fatima, chiedendo la recita quotidiana del Rosario, la consacrazione al suo Cuore Immacolato, penitenza e conversione. Oggi il Santuario è meta di pellegrinaggi da parte di fedeli di tutto il mondo. Nel valore da €1,00 è rappresentata la Basilica di Nostra Signora del Rosario di Fatima, mentre il francobollo da €2,90 raffigura l’apparizione della Madonna ai tre pastorelli. Sullo sfondo di entrambi i valori, cerchi di luce si stagliano contro il cielo, a ricordo del miracolo del sole avvenuto il 13 ottobre 1917.
On the 13th May 1917 the Holy Virgin Mary appeared to three shepherd children at the Cova da Iria, Fatima, asking them to pray the Rosary every day, to consecrate themselves to her Immaculate Heart, to do penance and to convert. Today the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima is the destination of many pilgrims coming from all over the world. The €1.00 value shows the Basilica of Fatima, built on the site of the apparitions, while the €2.90 stamp depicts the Holy Virgin’s apparition to the shepherd children. On the background of both values, circles of light stand out against the sky, reminding of the miracle of the sun occurred on the 13th October 1917.

La serie filatelica celebra la lunga e poliedrica carriera di David Bowie, famoso cantautore e attore, nato a Londra l’8 gennaio 1947. Jonathan Barnbrook, noto designer che ha curato la grafica degli ultimi album di Bowie, è l’autore del foglietto e dell’annullo per il primo giorno di emissione. Il primo valore mostra il giovane Bowie nei panni dell’astronauta Major Tom, uno dei tanti personaggi interpretati dalla rock star; in alto a destra una stella nera richiama il suo ultimo album, “Blackstar”. Sul secondo valore una rielaborazione della copertina dell’album “Aladdin Sane” evidenzia l’immediatamente riconoscibile fulmine di Ziggy Stardust. Sul terzo francobollo è riportata una fotografia con il profilo di Bowie, utilizzata per la copertina dell’album “Low” e per la locandina del film “L’uomo che cadde sulla Terra”, in cui lui recitò; in alto una corona bianca richiama il Duca Bianco, altro suo personaggio e il fatto che questa emissione è una celebrazione di una delle persone creative più degne di nota del 20° e 21° secolo. Lo sfondo del foglietto raffigura un cielo stellato e riporta il logo “70 Bowie”, creato anch’esso da Barnbrook, che rappresenta sia il nome di Bowie sia il 70° anniversario della sua nascita.
The philatelic set celebrates the long and eclectic career of David Bowie, famous singer-songwriter and actor, who was born in London on the 8th January 1947. Jonathan Barnbrook, who took care of the graphic art of his last album covers, is the designer of the souvenir sheet and of the first day of issue postmark. The first stamp shows the young Bowie as astronaut Major Tom, one of the many characters embodied by the rock star; above on the right, a black star refers to his last album, “Blackstar”. The second value depicts an interpretation of the “Aladdin Sane” record cover highlighting the instantly recognizable Ziggy Stardust’s flash. The third stamp shows Bowie’s profile picture that was used for both the “Low” album cover and poster of “The Man Who Fell to Earth”, above Bowie in this stamp, a crown refers to his character “The Thin White Duke” and that this issue is a celebration of one of the 20th and 21st century’s most notable creative men. The logo, also created by Barnbrook, represents both Bowie’s name and that it is the 70th anniversary of his birth.
