PARTNERING WITH THE INLAND NORTHWEST to reach the poor with the love and power of the gospel so they may become God-dependent, contributing members of society.
1
We talk a lot at UGM about working with the end in mind. Our goal is that men and women who come through our doors lost and broken might experience the love of Jesus, find meaningful purpose and leave our shelters ready to make a positive impact on society. As you look through the pages of this report, look for these three themes: the gospel, change and jobs. These are the keys to ending homelessness. Last year, through you, God provided the necessary resources for us to make critical improvements throughout the ministry – stronger case management with the women at the Crisis Shelter, 24/7 staff coverage at the Men’s Shelter and a whole new approach to meeting the needs of at-risk and homeless youth through the Student Impact Center. You gave. God moved. And we all worked together so that men and women who came through our doors hurting and broken might return to society as God-dependent, contributing members.

“On the surface, it appears that the UGM only feeds the hungry and provides shelter for the homeless in Spokane. Once we delved deeper, we came to understand that the UGM feeds the soul of those who are spiritually lost through so many tangible ways. We are amazed by how one ministry can provide such vast, creative and effective opportunities for the community to serve. What a blessing the UGM has been to Spokane and to our family.” – PATRICK AND TING VOLLMER 23

“I love this: If you give to a nonprofit organization, your money passes right through tax free. It’s not 70% of your money, it’s 100%, that goes to the folks that you want to serve.” – DIANA CHURCHILL, LEGACY PARTNER

2017 Highlight
Opening of the Student Impact Center The former Crisis Shelter was remodeled into a center for reaching at-risk youth with a home-like atmosphere. College students live there and receive hands-on training in urban ministry while providing support to UGM’s various outreaches. A co-op provides clothing and hygiene essentials to youth in need while the kitchen, dining area and living room are used for weekly community meals and relationship building. The youth ministry is expected to grow in 2018 through collaboration with the public schools, local agencies and outreach to the East Central community.

“What an amazing adventure this year has been at UGM! Through the combined efforts of our passionate donors, volunteers, employees, clients and friends, we have watched the Living God accomplish long-term victories in the lives of the men and women we serve. Some have planted and others have watered. Some worked openly, others have labored behind the scenes. But since God is giving the increase, the eternal results of these combined efforts will be evident 1,000 years from now!” – MIKE DREW, ASSOCIATION BOARD PRESIDENT See page 32 for list of 2017 Board of Directors.

THANK YOU. “I was hungry, and you gave me food. I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink. I was alone and away from home, and you invited me into your house. I was without clothes, and you gave me something to wear. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me. MATTHEW 25:35-36
