District Leadership

Pledge and Officer Messages I pledge to uphold the Objects of Circle K International, to foster compassion and goodwill toward others through service and leadership, to develop my abilities and the abilities of all people, and to dedicate myself to the realization of humankind's potential.

Circle K is an experience I will never forget. It's where I made some of my initial memories as a college freshman, it's where I get to meet new people, it's where I am able to volunteer with a wholesome group of people. We live to serve, and we love to do it. Everyone's commitment and dedication to service truly inspires me and drives my passion to serve my community. I will never forget that and the lasting memories with Circle K.

- David Nguyen Hey y’all! Thank you to all members new and old for a great month of service. The CKI year is just getting started and there is plenty of service to give throughout Houston. This October, I encourage new members to reach out more. Let’s continue to make an impact on the community!

Meeting Recaps During our 2nd General Meeting, we talked to new members about CKI & our District Governor Joseph Pham gave a message! For our in-meeting service project, we created coloring booklets for children!

Cat’s Back CKI participated in Cat’s Back, the biggest recruiting event of the year for UH. We saw a lot of new faces who are interested in CKI. It was exciting to see so many new freshmen come out and have a passion for service. We look forward to seeing the new members we met join CKI!

UH CKI Rush Week Monday, CKI officers & members took to social media to promote the club! A lot of our members posted on Instagram and Snapchat to help recruit members! On Tuesday, we watched movies and created cards for 9/11 first responders! It was an enjoyable experience hanging out with new and old members alike! Wednesday was our First General Meeting of the year! We introduced ourselves, the organization, and learned something new about prospective members. After the meeting, members got to grab food and do an in-meeting service project. Originally, we planned to make dog toys from donated t-shirts, but there was not enough so we switched to writing cards for UHPD again. As usual, we played Kpop and it got everyone excited, even the new members.

Thursday, we volunteered at the InfraRed Social and Service! This event was a part of UH’s Week of Welcome and we were excited to be a part of it!

In the end, Alyssa’s team had won. Some of the past members and guests came to the social, so we all had an enjoyable time.

Friday, we hosted a Running Man Social. The event is based on a popular Korean variety game show where the whole cast participates in challenges and games. We all split into 2 teams: one led by the President, Sammie, and the other led by the Fellowship Chair, Alyssa.

Thank you to all of the members and officers who came out during CKI Rush Week! We are glad to welcome to new members into the CKI family and we are excited to see what this year can bring!

Social Recap Coral Sword CKI members went to Coral Sword to hang out and play games. Members chilled until the sun fell, sharing stories and jokes around the table. There were a lot of games being played and I know all members enjoyed the social. We would love to come here again!

CKI had a bake sale fundraiser! We sold plenty of goodies, including Cookies, Brownies, Thai Tea, & and our specialty (and delicious) rice bowls. Beforehand, we had a social that involved preparing all the food to sell for the next day.

Volunteering Recaps! The experience I gained volunteering at The Beacon was probably one of the best I have ever had. We were assigned to laundry, where homeless people could drop their clothes off and have them washed, as well as stock up on some personal care items. It's so nice to see such a strong bond between volunteers and the homeless. There was this one man who always had always requested to have his pillow washed a certain way, so when one of the coordinators at The Beacon handed him his freshly washed pillow, the delight on his face warmed my heart. I realized through these interactions that kindness is truly valued here. It is so nice to help them out as it gives them a nice break from everyday struggles. There's definitely a stigma when it comes to the homeless, and I encourage people who may have this point of view to join us when we volunteer at the Beacon. It allows for you to gain a deeper understanding of their struggles and breaks down the barrier set up by society’s stigmas against them.”

CKI members went to the Beacon to volunteer! We interacted with homeless people and washed their clothes. A lot of CKI members got to see for the first time on what it is like to volunteer at a place like The Beacon. The Beacon is an incredible place to volunteer if you want to help those who are less fortunate!

- Aina Sebastian

Our very own Treasurer, David, and immediate past President, Alex, created Houston’s very first Vietnamese Cultural Festival along with several of their friends. They have worked hard, spent countless hours, and months in bringing something new to Houston, spreading cultural awareness to the city. There were performances, contests, games, food and much more that made the event very successful despite it being the first time. UH CKI members went to volunteer at the event, others came to check out and support our members. We couldn’t be more proud of Alex and David for their accomplishments, and we look forward to more awesome things they will do from here!

September Member of the Month! Chandni Mistry It feels really nice to help other for a good cause and making your mark in someone's life. Going to the beacon had the biggest impact on me. Seeing how I personally can help people in my community has inspired to volunteer even more than before. Chandni is our September Member of the Month due to her dedication and enthusiasm for volunteering ever since our 1st General Meeting. This is her first year in CKI, but she has been very active in attending many of our events, especially if it’s volunteering. She would be the first to sign up as soon as we send out the form. In addition, she provides carpool to members who need it as well as donating to bake sales, going above and beyond as a new member. Despite her busy time as a student and working off campus, she makes time to come to our General Meetings, socials, and volunteering during weekdays and weekends. She invites her friends to join along with her, and this benefits UH CKI in reaching out to recruit people. We are very appreciative of Chandni for being active with us and because of that reason, we chose her as Member of the Month. 9
