meeting recaps 6th General Meeting:

We wanted to really create a connection with our district board this semester, so we invited CKI South/Southeast LTG, Clarence Manglal-lan. We appreciate that he drove all the way from College-Station to visit! He informed members about projects happening on the district level, and also a broader perspective of what CKI is. From his presentation, we were really insipired to connect more within the southeast division! UHCKI is so excited for these upcoming district events, especially Spring Rally and DCON! We also held a dinner and boba social in Bellaire after the meeting. Thank you so much to Clarence for joining us!

7th General Meeting:

For the last meeting of the semester, we thought it would be a nice idea to hold a friendsgiving! Members brought food to share while watch Frozen. We also had 3 special guests at this meeting. Our first guest speaker was Erica Agbadiba, from UNICEF, who had interests in collaborating with us in the future! We also invited Clarence back to talk more about upcoming events on the district level, as well as our immediate-past president, Alex Le! Thank you so much for traveling to UH to come celebrate with us! We were so grateful to have members and guests at this meeting to celebrate such a wonderful semester of service!

VOLUNTEERING RECAP "Although it was super cold, everyone was eager to offer a helping hand, whether it was through setting up the coffee tables or greeting incoming walkers. As I gave out the pinwheels with a smile and greeted families, I felt happy and thankful to be there. Watching as people of all ages joined in, I was moved by the positive and supportive atmosphere."

Members went to MVP Service Night where they are able to pack hundreds of peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, write letters, and make no-sew blankets for Star of Hope. We also learned about the homeless community and hunger problem in Houston. We were able to help out people in time for the winter holidays, providing them basic resources.

Cultural Explosion

Jingle Bell Express

CKI Member, Lily Duong, volunteering at Cultural Explosion. This is an annual event hosted by the Council for Cultural Activities (CCA), which allows for student organizations to spread their culture and further diversify the campus. Thank you to CCA to allowing us to serve with them!

TOTAL SERVICE HOURS FALL 2019

Volunteers loaded hundreds of boxes of toys, books, and food onto a moving truck to take to a community church to be donated to children and families. There were many helpers at the event, including Kiwanians, Key Clubbers, Boy Scouts, and friends and families from around the area, to carry the heavy boxes. By the end of the night, everyone was tired out but it was all worth it to bring joy to the community. We were so happy for this opportunity to connect with our fellow K-Family!

FALL RETREAT 2019

Camp CKI was such an amazing experience for CKI members from different chapters to connect, share ideas, and have an overall fun time. The first day of the retreat was mainly centered around actually getting to the Camp and getting familiar with fellow CKI members. At the beginning of the retreat, members were broken up into groups, so that they could meet people from all over the Texas-Oklahoma district. It was so refreshing to go from a city environment, to the serene nature of Camp THE PAW PRINT / 6

Pineywoods. We also were informed of the event happening at the end of the second day, a choreographed dance to a song. The second day arrived with an early breakfast and more time to practice the dances that each group would be performing that night. Even though we got separated from friends that we were familiar with from UHCKI, it was really nice to be in these groups for the retreat. We really got a chance to bond and become close with people who share such a strong love for service.

The Camp had so many activities for us! They even had a zipline! We also had a dodgeball tournament with all of the people who came to the retreat. Once night time hit, we began our competition. Every group had their own special twist on their dances, but overall they were all so good and funny! Following the amazing talent showcased, it was time for some traditional camping fun. Even if it was super cold out, it’s not a retreat without marshmallow and s'mores roasting around a campfire. This was such a nice

closing to two eventful days of bonding and fun! For the third, and final day, they held a service project for all members to do. Thank you so much to the District Board for planning this wonderful retreat! We enjoyed the chance to bond with service leaders from all around the Texas-Oklahoma district!

FREINDSGIVING SOCIAL

Before we headed out for Thanksgiving break and into finals season, we wanted to hold a social to show appreciation for our members and all the service that they have done this semester! Our friendsgiving social was held directly after our last general meeting. We held a potluck with the food that members brought from home. We also watched a classic holiday movie, Frozen! Thank you to all of our members, collaborators, and guests for an amazing semester in service! This wouldn't be possible without each one of you! THE PAW PRINT / 8

WHITE COUGAR SOCIAL

To celebrate an amazing semester of service and the end of exams we held a social at the end of the semester! White Cougar was a play on the classic holiday game, White Elephant. Members brought gifts to exchange as well as food for a potluck. It is truly nice to spend holidays with people who you care about, so thank you to everyone who were able to come and to all of our members! Happy Holidays and get some good rest!
