When you say that you agree to something happening, your are giving consent.
Sometimes you will be asked to sign a form saying that you give consent.
Before you give your consent you will be told everything you need to know to make a decision.

Things you may be asked to consent to
Medical Treatment.
You may be asked to give consent for therapy:- like speech and language, counselling, anger management or other therapies.
Before making up your mind you need information about: - What they need to do - Why it needs to be done - What any treatment will feel like - What might go wrong - How much better it will make you
You should always be involved in making decisions and may need an independent advocate to help you.

How will people know I am giving consent
You can say yes or no by making a sign using pictures or symbols.
You might be asked to sign something to say you agree.

You might want to ask questions to help make up your mind. What will happen if I say no? Will I need to go to hospital?
Talk it over with your family or people you trust, remember you can always change your mind about giving consent.
