The Office of Community Engagement is happy to announce that since being featured in the March edition of UHR Connect, requests for Good Neighbor Day food drive boxes increased dramatically! At the start of the drive on March 10th, 54 boxes were placed both on campus and in the surrounding community with the help of The Fire Marshal's Office. 29 campus affiliated locations and 11 community locations participated. You can check out the map to see how widespread the food drive became. The Office of Community Engagement thanks you for your generosity to the College Park Community Food Bank!

Taking the Next Steps in Professional Development The key to building momentum is to implement something, even if it’s very minor, soon after the learning experience. Consider these practices to make the most of what you learned: 1.
2. 3. 4.
5.
6.
Commit to take time to reflect and process what you learn. a. Intentionally block time on your calendar to reflect after the session. b. Set a reminder on your calendar for three months from the session to review the materials again and consider any changes you have made because of what you learned. Write down one reaction, one takeaway, and one question you have from each session. Create a plan with two or three action steps you can take to apply what you have learned. Prepare informal or formal presentation/remarks for your colleagues and highlight the most critical ideas from the session. Schedule a “lunch and learn” session with your colleagues to discuss the workbook, video, or article you kept from the session. Stay connected with the speaker(s) who resonated with you. Follow them on social media, sign up for their newsletters, and—if appropriate—stay in touch with them.
Questions to consider: 1.

3.
What opportunities might professional development provide for us to develop not only job skills training for our staff, but to meet our strategic initiatives? How can our priorities and vision more closely influence how we prioritize funding for professional development? What are some formats we can design that will result in professional development attendees presenting what they have learned to the team?

How do we know if they are using professional development to address challenges facing our department and our institution? What is our organization’s position on the value, purpose, and expected return on investment of professional development? Can we discuss this? Communicate it widely? Live it?

Are you looking to buy a home in College Park? Let’s make College Park a top-20 University Community and let CPCUP’s Homeownership Program help you.
The College Park City-University Partnership is the nonprofit, local development corporation jointly supported by the University of Maryland and the City of College Park that is currently working to implement the University District Vision 2020 – to make College Park a top-20 university community by 2020. This work includes implementing initiatives within five key strategy areas – Revitalization and Redevelopment, Education, Transportation, Public Safety and Sustainability. In 2015, the Partnership launched the Homeownership Program in an effort to encourage more people to live near their work, thereby improving the local economy, stabilizing neighborhoods and reducing commutes. The program provides $15,000 in down payment and closing cost assistance, structured as a 10-year forgivable loan, to full-time, benefitseligible employees of the University of Maryland and to fulltime City of College Park employees purchasing a home in College Park. The home must be their permanent residence. Since the program’s initiation in summer 2015, 19 homes have been purchased through the program. The program has been so successful that it was recognized by the Community Development Network of Maryland, which awarded it their statewide Impact Award.
UHR|CONNECT | Vol. 3, No. 4 Each house that has been purchased by a University or City employee represents a home that is owner-occupied and contributes to neighborhood stability – adding to the City’s economy, increasing the local retail market, and improving
