UIC's Jungmin Kang Awarded Best Oralist at SUAD Youth COP
Three Yonsei University students, Jungmin Kang from Underwood International College (UIC), along with Alland Dharmawan and Sophia Merkel from the Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS), represented South Korea at the Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi Youth Conference of the Parties (SUAD Youth COP). This event, a collaborative effort between Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi and the UAE's Ministry of Education, simulated the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change negotiations, allowing youth to advocate for climate action.
Taking on the role of the Canadian delegation, the trio navigated through debates on energy transition, oceans, and losses and damages, culminating in a session to draft their resolutions. Their diplomacy and innovative policy solutions earned them the Best Delegation award, showcasing their exceptional performance. Particularly notable is UIC student Jungmin Kang's (ECON ‘22) recognition as Best Oralist, bringing distinct honor to UIC and highlighting the college's commitment to nurturing leaders capable of making significant contributions to global issues. This victory also secured them the opportunity to participate in COP28 in Dubai, which is a significant milestone in their advocacy for climate action.
