Dame Menna Rawlings DCMG

The British Ambassador to France

I am delighted to welcome you to the second edition of our Franco British Trade & Investment Awards, organised in partnership with the Franco British Chamber of Commerce & Industry Our Awards are an outstanding occasion to celebrate business success stories on both sides of the Channel.

Trade and commerce are a cornerstone of our bilateral relationship and, despite the challenges, businesses on both sides of the Channel continue to innovate and grow, finding new ways to increase economic activity. France is the UK’s 5th largest trading partner and over the last year, trade in goods and services between the UK and France was worth £78.3 billion an increase of over 20% on the previous year. Our latest trade figures, particularly in exports of goods, show a strong rebound in UK France bilateral trade. You are all part of that story.

Tonight, you will hear success stories from businesses across the UK and France, of many different shapes and sizes. These shortlisted companies champion many of the shared commercial priorities between both countries: technology and innovation, clean and sustainable economic growth and success for SMEs. I am proud that we are recognising regional economic development, or “Levelling Up”, as both countries look to spread wealth and opportunity in every corner of our nations

Moreover, the Awards represent a continuation of the special partnership we have with the Franco British Chamber Together, we are building a programme of excellent events and initiatives to foster commercial links between the UK and France namely So British, the Regional Business Network, the Business Forum and our prestigious Awards. An exciting agenda!

I want to thank our sponsors BDO France, Eurostar and Jaguar Land Rover that have made tonight possible. I look forward to meeting with as many of you as possible Congratulations to all the outstanding French and British businesses nominated.

I am thrilled to return to the British Embassy in Paris for another edition of the Franco British Trade & Investment Awards. Special thanks to the Franco British Chamber for partnering with DIT on this superb event

It is my role and my delight as His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for Europe to encourage a thriving trade and investment relationship between the UK and other European countries. I lead a fantastic team of over 300 colleagues from the UK’s Department for International Trade based in 34 countries across the continent. Together we work to open markets, encourage trade and attract investment across the continent.

My message tonight is simple: the UK deeply values its relations with our European partners in general, and France in particular. Trade and investment between the UK and the rest of Europe helps to drive economic growth, create jobs and improve living standards. Through our trade and investment promotion work, we also aim to encourage sustainability, utilise technology and level up living standards ambitions that are well reflected in our award categories this evening. Put simply, trade creates and spreads joy and jobs across our countries

We have all experienced a range of challenges over the last few years, and none of us is immune from current economic headwinds. Nevertheless, I am pleased to report that the latest trade figures show a positive outlook Over half of the UK’s trade is with Europe totalling £774 billion. The value of UK exports to Europe has increased by 16% in the past year, to nearly £345bn Our UK trade with France has grown by over 20% in the same period, to over £78bn And latest stats suggest that European companies have invested over £1 trillion in the UK

As I travel across Europe, I hear and see that we have enormous opportunities to support businesses find new, exciting commercial opportunities I am so pleased to be present amongst you again this evening, and best of luck to all nominated companies!

Maison Taisne Riocour

Maison Taisne Riocour is a Champagne house in Les Riceys founded in 1837. Champagne Taisne Riocour is first and foremost a tribute to Angelito de Taisne and Claude de Riocour who revived the family vineyard established in 1964. Their 5 children carry on this adventure with passion and pride.

Since 2012, the winery enables optimal pressing and fermentation in thermo regulated vessels. The wines are then matured for a minimum of three years in our traditional cellars.

Our four cuvées: Grande Réserve, Blanc de Noirs, Millésime 2014 and Rosé de Saignée are characterised by the alliance of Heaven and Earth, by elegance, audacity and liveliness.
