This guide provides an overview of uLethbridge admission routes, programs and other information to help you assist future applicants. Welcome Here’s to a fantastic 2020 academic year! There are so many exciting things happening at uLethbridge. Science Commons, our newest academic space, is now open! This space brings together researchers across disciplines to examine and solve complex, real-world problems through a transdisciplinary lens. We have also launched a number of Living and Learning Communities (LLCs) over the past two years. LLCs are made up of students in similar areas of study and who live in residence and receive enhanced academic and social programming. This exceptional experience gives participants special access to professors, lecturers, networking, student success programming and more! Students in LLCs have a greater chance of being successful in their early years of study. The Dhillon School of Business and Faculty of Fine Arts currently run LLCs that provide exciting opportunities to participants throughout their first year at uLethbridge. This year, we piloted a new LLC called Early Start for students looking to ease their transition to University — we all know the first few weeks can be overwhelming!

Early Start participants moved into residence in mid-August and completed one liberal education course for credit before the start of term. The course helps students map their communities, the physical space of campus and their support networks. It was a resounding success and plans are in the works to expand Early Start in 2020. Students who apply to any future Living and Learning Community by the deadline are guaranteed a bed in residence! We will provide more information to you in the coming months. This fall, uLethbridge launched the Experience Matters project with a goal of developing a student experience transcript in the near future. When you reflect on your own time in higher education, I suspect you remember experiences outside the classroom that shaped who you are today and how you view the world. We want students to be able to articulate these experiences and show future employers the relevant skills they developed. I hope you have a wonderful year, and that our materials prove useful in guiding your students through the overwhelming journey to post-secondary. AACSB accreditation for the Dhillon School of Business Studies at the Dhillon School of Business are backed by our AACSB accreditation. The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International is the world’s largest global business education network of which only six per cent of the best business schools worldwide are accredited. Students who graduate from an AACSB-accredited school are contenders for jobs from top, global organizations who only hire from AACSB-accredited schools, they are often offered more competitive salaries, they have a better chance of getting into graduate programs, and they have more employers interested in them after graduation.
BFA-New Media/BSc Computer Science (New!) Starting Fall 2020, uLethbridge will offer a Bachelor of Fine Arts - New Media/ Bachelor of Science with a major in computer science. Demand is increasing for new media artists that draw from an extensive computer science foundation. This five-year combined degrees program bridges the gap between fine arts and computer science, providing a competitive advantage in the marketplace.
Through new media studies, students will explore the interconnectivity between technology, art, industry, and culture. They’ll combine a foundation in new media with studies in computer science, delving into the study of algorithms, data structures and their applications to develop efficient solutions to global problems.
Students will have the opportunity to attend lectures, labs and tutorials each week, examining viewpoints from different perspectives: science, social science, fine arts and humanities. They will get to know the campus, meet fellow students and professors, and familiarize themselves with uLethbridge’s resources.
Combined Degrees
Experience Matters
Combined degrees programs at uLethbridge give students the opportunity to graduate with two degrees in less time than if they took them separately. Students get a strong foundation of knowledge and skills in two areas, gaining an advantage in a competitive job market. To be admitted to a combined degrees program, students must meet the minimum requirements of both programs.
The value of a post-secondary journey cannot be fully captured through a list of academic courses and grades. To fill this gap, uLethbridge is launching Experience Matters, a comprehensive database of activities that students can use to track participation and highlight the skills they gained during their degree. Upon graduation, they’ll have a record to share with future employers.
Early Start Through Early Start, students can take a liberal education course for credit before the start of the Fall 2020 term. The course (LBED 1500 - The First-Year Experience: Mapping our Communities) will promote success and ease the transition from high school to university, while giving students credit towards their degree.
The activities included may take place on- or off-campus and cover a variety of educational opportunities emphasizing research, creativity and innovation, community service, global citizenship, leadership, certifications and workshops. Students will venture outside the classroom into workplace co-operative education experiences, community volunteering, student leadership activities, study abroad, among others to develop 21st-century competencies and earn an official, uLethbridge- verified record of their high-impact experiences.
Living and Learning Communities This exciting opportunity provides students enrolled in a bachelor of fine arts/music program, or a bachelor of management program with a guaranteed bed in Housing (application and deadlines apply) and exclusive access to leadership development opportunities, guest speakers, networking events, academic advising, and other student activities — many taking place within residences on campus. Living in residence will also ensure a smooth transition to university and provide a built-in community that enhances academic performance and social success.

About Post-Diploma Programs

General Admission
Applicants who have been awarded a diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution may be considered for admission to a PostDiploma Degree program at the University of Lethbridge. Post-Diploma Degree programs are typically 20 term courses in length and are composed of selected courses in the major subject and related disciplines, as well as courses to meet the Liberal Education List Requirement.
For current information on approved diploma programs, see ulethbridge. ca/postdiploma. Diploma programs not previously approved will be considered for admission on a case-by-case basis.
Applicants with two- or threeyear diplomas from recognized institutions, where the program has sufficient academic content and the diploma GPA is 2.0 or higher, will be considered for general admission to a transfer program in the Faculty of Arts & Science, Dhillon School of Business, Health Sciences, or Fine Arts. GPA criteria will vary for particular programs and are subject to change. All GPAs are expressed on the uLethbridge 4.0 GPA scale.

The co-operative education program offers work experiences for EVERY major at both the undergraduate (CAFCE accredited) and graduate levels. We are the only university in Alberta to do this! Local, regional, national or international work experiences are available in areas directly related to your degree. uLethbridge students have completed work terms at EA Games, the Canadian Space Agency, Environment Canada, Husky, the Smithsonian Museum in Washington and in areas related to environmental sustainability, Indigenous relations, research and development, to name a few.

Our education program is one of the leading programs in the country. You’ll receive 27- weeks of off-campus practicum experience, teaching in multiple settings, such as elementary AND secondary schools (unique to uLethbridge). Your professors are teachers who have all taught in K-12 classrooms and balance theory with practice.

Our digital audio arts major, the most comprehensive degree program of its kind in Western Canada, combines academic courses and a classical music conservatory with experiences in audio engineering, music production and sonic arts.

The addictions counselling program is the only baccalaureate program of its kind in Canada.

The Dhillon School of Business has received Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) accreditation for the Bachelor of Management in Human Resources Management and Labour Relations program. The CPHR designation is the only designation recognized by nine provinces across Canada and is aligned with the United States’ Society for Human Resource Management — the largest HR organization in the world.

Our innovative Aboriginal health program examines the factors that contribute to Indigenous health, strength and resilience in Canada. Students develop their skills in a community setting by engaging in a practicum in partnership with rural and urban Indigenous communities.

There’s an area in Dr. David Naylor’s lab at Science Commons that is the coldest place on earth! It’s just one of the many reasons why he is in the upper echelons of research in experimental astrophysics.

Mature Student Admission
Dual Admission is a specific transfer admission route available for some degree programs open to students enrolled in a dual admission partner institution.
Applicants who are a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident, age 21 years or older, and who do not meet current admission requirements of any other admission route may be considered for Mature Student admission. Applicants who have completed high school requirements with an admission average of at least 60%, or have a minimum grade of 65% in English 30-1 or 30-2 and passing grades in two other 30-level courses will be considered for admission. For applicants who have not completed high school requirements, a combination of academic credentials, standardized test scores, and evidence of life experiences may be considered.
Dual Admission applicants must meet all general admission and program-specific admission requirements in effect at the time of application.
First Nations’ Transition Program The First Nations’ Transition Program (FNTP) is a first-year credit program that provides First Nations, Métis and Inuit students who do not meet the general requirements of the uLethbridge an opportunity to enter into, and succeed at, university. This program provides a solid foundation of core skills in a supportive cohort environment that attends to Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Learning. It is also open to Indigenous students returning to university after an absence and, as space allows, to those who qualify for general admission but want the supports provided by the cohort. Successful completion of the FNTP allows students to enter into most uLethbridge programs. Admission is on a case-by-case basis. For more information, contact our FNTP Office at 403-3292635.
Home School Applicants Regardless of their citizenship or residency, home school applicants will be considered according to the curriculum they followed. For example, a home school applicant who studied Alberta curriculum is expected to meet the requirements of an Alberta high school applicant. The applicant should challenge the departmental examinations in courses where such examinations exist to provide grades in the subjects challenged. The applicant would be considered for admission when they present final grades in five distinct subjects. An applicant who presents both a high school diploma and appropriate, satisfactory standardized test scores, either ACT or 14both SAT I and II, will be considered for general admission. 16
The applicant is assessed for potential post-secondary success, which is the standard of admission for this route. A resume and letter of intent are required for admission purposes. Additional advice is available from Admissions.
Standardized Test Admission Standardized test admission route applicants who present acceptable ACT (American College Testing) or SAT (Scholastic Academic Test) scores will be considered for general admission. In the case of the SAT written prior to March 2016, the applicant must present complete SAT (Critical Reading, Mathematics and Writing) and three additional SAT Subject Test scores. In the case of the SAT written after March 2016, a minimum combined Evidence-Based Reading and Writing plus Math (ERW+M) score of 1040 is required. In the case of the ACT, a composite score of 20 is required. Applicants are also required to meet programspecific admission requirements and therefore will be required to submit their high school transcript for review.
Post-Secondary Admission
Applied and Technology Degrees
Applicants who have completed six or more transferable term courses at one or more post-secondary institutions will be considered as Post-Secondary applicants.
Applicants presenting applied or technology degrees from recognized colleges or technical institutes in Canada with GPAs of 2.0 or higher on the uLethbridge 4.0 GPA scale will be considered for admission to first degree, undergraduate non-quota programs. These applicants will be considered for admission to quota programs according to their qualifications. Transfer credit will be awarded according to regular uLethbridge procedures and policies, including those pertaining to residency, major and time limits.
To qualify for general admission, Post-Secondary applicants must have an admission average of at least 2.0 on the uLethbridge 4.0 GPA scale, calculated on all transferable courses. Satisfactory completion of certain Alberta high school courses or equivalents is required for admission to some majors. See High School Admission Requirements by Program for quota and specialized program admission requirements. Upon admission, students are assigned transfer credit on a course-by-course basis for eligible post-secondary work. Transfer of credit may serve to reduce the number of courses which must be completed at uLethbridge in order to complete a program of studies. English Language and SPEAKING Requirements English Language Proficiency English is the primary language of instruction and communication at uLethbridge. Prior to registration, all undergraduate students must demonstrate English language proficiency sufficient to meet the demands of classroom instruction, written assignments and participation in tutorials and discussions, regardless of their citizenship status or country of origin. There are two types of English requirements that apply to applicants to uLethbridge: 1. English Language Proficiency (ELP): Admission requirement for all applicants to undergraduate programs 2. Spoken English Language Proficiency (SELP): Admission requirement for applicants to programs offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences English Language Proficiency (ELP) must be presented prior to admission and may be shown in a number of ways, including: •

Spoken English Language Proficiency In addition to the English Language Proficiency requirement for uLethbridge undergraduate admission, all applicants to the Faculty of Health Sciences must also meet the Spoken English Language Proficiency (SELP) requirement. This additional SELP requirement is essential because students must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues, instructors, health care professionals, and the public in a variety of settings to be successful in these programs. How to apply for admission Applying to uLethbridge is as easy as one, two, three...
To apply to uLethbridge, students must create an ApplyAlberta account before completing their uLethbridge application. Applicants can access the application from our website ulethbridge.ca/ future-student as well as at applyalberta.ca. Complete online application form at ulethbridge.ca/future-student
High school applicants: Published Grade 11 grades will be used to determine conditional admission to uLethbridge. Final Grade 12 grades will be reviewed and must meet admission requirements prior to the appropriate document deadlines. Include valid credit card information for payment of the application fee.
Student Application Fee
The application fee for admission to an undergraduate program is $125 for applicants with Canadian transcripts and $140 for applicants submitting international transcripts. Subsequent applications for admission to a level of study are assessed an application fee of $50.
Conditional Admission
Conditional admission decisions are made on the basis of published Grade 11 grades (high school applicants), transcripts and/or mid-term mark statements (for courses in progress) received by the Admission decision document deadline. Applicants offered conditional admission must meet or exceed the admission standards of their program by the final document deadline.
Official Documents
Through ApplyAlberta, applicants authorize uLethbridge to request transcripts on their behalf from Alberta Education and/or participating post-secondary institutions in Alberta. Applicants attending institutions not participating in ApplyAlberta or any educational institution out-of-province must arrange to have official transcripts sent directly to Admissions. Applicants currently studying at institutions not participating in ApplyAlberta or any educational institution out-of-province are strongly advised to arrange, at the time of application, for the submission of interim transcripts if required final transcripts are not yet available. From Application to Registration Applicants, upon submitting an application, receive notification via email of their: • Nine-digit uLethbridge student identification number • Information regarding the application for scholarships uLethbridge ID Number | Students need this nine-digit number to log on to the Bridge for the first time and set up their uLethbridge username and password.
Applicants should notify us immediately if their contact information changes. Log on to the Bridge (bridge.uleth.ca), email admissions@uleth.ca, or fax 403-329-5159. We send important information by email so it is important for applicants to check their accounts regularly. Applicants can check their application status, including required documents, at any time by logging on to the Bridge (bridge.uleth.ca).
An applicant offered admission receives an offer by email, followed by a mailed Welcome Package. We email registration information once it is available.
Applicants must complete the Confirmation of Admission online, or submit the form with the non-refundable tuition deposit before the expiry date identified in the Offer of Admission. Expiry Date | Applicants must submit their Confirmation of Admission by the expiry date. If more time is needed, applicants should contact Admissions to determine next steps (admissions@uleth.ca or 403-382-7134). Confirmation of Admission | Applicants need to confirm online through the Bridge and send this form back to Admissions (signed and dated) to let us know whether or not they plan to attend uLethbridge. If they plan to attend, a tuition deposit MUST accompany this form. Note: This deposit is in addition to the application fee that has already been paid and is non-refundable. Students register in courses online, starting on their registration date, using the Bridge (bridge.uleth.ca). Program Planning Guides (PPGs) | Program planning guides list all required courses and include a suggested sequence plan for how to complete the program. These guides are available online at ulethbridge.ca/ross/ppgs. Timeframe | Registration for the fall term typically starts during the end of April. Students who have been offered admission will normally receive registration information from us by email in mid-April. A student can register on or after their assigned date, but earlier registration is better for course selection. Registration Date | This is the first day students can log on to the Bridge to add courses to their class schedule. Registration continues until the end of the first week of classes. Liberal Education List Requirement | All uLethbridge students must complete the Liberal Education List Requirement. This involves taking at least four courses from three different areas: fine arts and humanities, social sciences, and sciences. The required courses in a student’s program typically fulfill some of this requirement, so the program planning guide, timetable, and Academic Calendar should be used to determine which additional courses should be taken. HOUSING On-campus Housing
Housing Deadlines
The University of Lethbridge offers a wide variety of on-campus living options, from single rooms to shared apartments.
Students are advised to apply as early as possible to improve their chances for accommodation. Newly admitted applicants, who apply before April 1, will have their names entered into an accommodation lottery. Approximately 75% of the allocated beds will be randomly selected. The names drawn will be guaranteed accommodation prior to May 15.
Students who join us direct from high school or who take less than one year off between high school and university are considered New University students. New students can apply online to stay in traditional-style dorms in University Hall (UHall), or one-, two- or fourbedroom apartments in Aperture Park. These are fully furnished with a bed (with storage space underneath), a desk and storage for clothing. Satellite television, wireless internet and all utilities are included. They also include common areas where students can meet up with friends, play video games, watch movies and unwind. New students living in residence are required to purchase a dining plan, as they may be living away from home for the first time. Request a presentation at your school Our recruiters hit the road each September. Send us a request to visit your school and we will try our best to make it happen. There are some situations when it is not possible to visit in-person, but we can explore other solutions such as a Skype presentation or webinar.
