We know this is a lot to think about. If you aren’t sure, don’t worry; you’ll figure it out. A lot of students change their major during their time at ULethbridge. The good thing is that you need to take classes from several subject areas to fulfill your liberal education requirements. This means that in your first year, it is almost impossible to make a mistake. It’s a great way to figure out what you like and what you’re good at.
“
Liberal education develops well-rounded students by engaging in critical thinking, working collaboratively and exploring different disciplines. When students leave university, they have skills and learning habits that will benefit them in whatever career path they choose.

Our Financial Advantage
Dollars & common sense
ULethbridge tuition and fees are still the lowest of the comprehensive academic and research universities in Alberta for domestic undergraduate students. This is based on a typical course load for one year, five courses per semester or 10 courses over the academic year.
Domestic Undergraduate Tuition - Bachelor of Arts or equivalent
Home Sweet Home — For Less
In a National Rent Report (March 2024) by Rentals.ca and Urbanation, Lethbridge is one of the most affordable places to rent in Canada.
Students can attend fine arts productions like exhibits, concerts and plays as well as use ULethbridge sport & recreation facilities free of charge. These are included in tuition and student fees.
Whether you are studying at the campus in Lethbridge or Calgary, we work to offset the cost of tuition with scholarships and paid workintegrated learning opportunities for students. Learn more about paid WIL opportunities on pages 24 and 25.
Post-Secondary Transfer Students received awards averaging $1,521. IN 2023-2024,
44% of incoming high school students RECEIVED AWARDS, AVERAGING $1,765.
$1,228,779 was awarded to incoming undergraduate students in 2023-24.
Big city living, small-town price tag
“ Comparing rent, utilities and groceries to other places in Alberta, Lethbridge is by far the cheapest. When I was considering attending ULethbridge when I was in high school, I did some research, especially when it came to rental costs compared to Calgary. One thing that I really like about ULethbridge is that they have UPass which gives you unlimited bus rides throughout the city with your student ID.

living on campus
Welcome to your home away from home in Lethbridge! Living on campus, especially in your first year, helps you have a smooth transition to university.
Students who live on campus are more likely to have successful academic experiences. Your home is within a 10-minute walk from your classes, computer labs, food services, gym facilities, the library and study spaces.
Take a virtual tour of our Lethbridge campus Housing options
Residence Assistants
Residents belong to the largest student club on campus, the Organization of Residence Students (ORS). Each floor in housing has residence assistants (RAs) who build community by coordinating events and study sessions.
They are trained in emergency response, mental health first aid and standard first aid. RAs also uphold community standards, help with roommate disagreements and will connect you to ULethbridge services.
Dining Plans
Living away from home for the first time is an exciting journey; with a dining plan, you have convenient access to nutritious meals. The best part? You won’t have to do the dishes!
New University students (entering from high school or one year after leaving high school) living on-campus must buy a Commuter or Standard dining plan (8-month contract). If you are extra hungry, you can add money to your plan throughout the year.
Transfer or mature students don’t have to buy a dining plan, but it’s a great choice if you don’t want to cook. You can buy an optional dining plan and have the choice to choose the Commuter Plan, Standard Plan or Sampler Plan ($2,250).
Apply for On-Campus Housing
Apply early since oncampus housing is not guaranteed and is in high demand. Applications open September 15 for the following academic year.
You can apply for housing once you have received your student identification number. You do not have to be accepted at ULethbridge to apply for on-campus housing.
CREATING A SAFE,HEALTHY AND INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY
We are committed to making the ULethbridge campus safe and healthy for all students. Here are a few initiatives we offer to help shape our community.
“ There are so many benefits to studying at ULethbridge but if I HAD to pick a favourite, it would have to be that no matter where you come from, or who you are, you have a place here and you will find where you belong. ”
- THEO
Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) are key values of our campus community at ULethbridge and we have an EDI office to back it up. The role of the EDI team is to create a better campus for today and the years ahead. They tackle existing barriers to build a more inclusive and supportive campus for everyone. This work begins with every community member, as we aim to ensure you feel like you belong, regardless of background, experience or story.
Sexual Violence Prevention Training
Sexual and gender-based violence undermines our values of diversity, equity and inclusion. ULethbridge was the first university in Alberta to require mandatory sexual violence prevention training for all students. Incoming students must take a 45-minute training course before they can register in classes for their first term.
Health Centre and Counselling Services
The University is proud to offer students access to a primary care medical clinic right on campus, including physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, mental health therapists and addictions counsellors. The Health Centre works in close collaboration with our Counselling Services to provide mental health and wellness support to ULethbridge students.
Our Counselling Services team provides brief, personal counselling in-person, via private Zoom and over the phone. They also offer group counselling, self-help and peer support, wellness workshops, training and certifications to students.
Food for Thought and Nourish
ULethbridge is tackling student food insecurity head on with Food for Thought and Nourish. They coordinate food pantries across campus, fresh food boxes, campus care parcels and breakfast giveaways. They even oversee a community garden where students can learn to grow vegetables.
Student Wellness Ambassador Program (S.W.A.P.)
Developed for students, by students, SWAP promotes student engagement and wellness. The SWAP students are trained peer listeners and plan events for students to connect, feel supported and improve their overall wellness.

WELCOME
TO THE IIKAISSKINI (LOW HORN) GATHERING CENTRE
Named after one of Canada’s most respected Indigenous academic leaders, Dr. Leroy Little Bear (BASc (BA) ’72, DASc ’04), the Iikaisskini (Low Horn) Gathering Centre is where we share stories, teachings and wisdom. This is a safe place to explore new knowledge, engage in community dialogue and build relationships. Together, we ignite pride and inspire leadership.
Bridge Experiences Outside the Classroom
It’s essential to have opportunities to take your education beyond the classroom and apply what you have learned in real-world situations. We have exceptional experiential learning, work-integrated learning (WIL) and career services so all students benefit from professional development.
What is WIL?
100% of ULethbridge students can take part in work-integrated learning opportunities that are recorded on your MyExperience Transcript!
WIL is a form of curricular experiential education that formally integrates your academic studies with quality experiences within a workplace or practice setting.
It also includes specific learning goals and outcomes, and often a paycheque!

A few WIL opportunities
Co-operative Education is a nationally recognized form of work-integrated learning that combines professional experience with academic studies to enrich students’ academic, intellectual, personal and professional development. Students alternate academic terms with paid work terms in a professional workplace.
Research opportunities are available to students starting from their first year. This separates ULethbridge from the larger institutions, where engaging in research is often only available to students in graduate programs. Faculty across the sciences, social sciences and humanities involve ULethbridge students in their research, often in paid positions.
Work2Learn | Recognizing students’ financial demands and difficulty finding part-time jobs, ULethbridge created Work2Learn. By investing in paid WIL positions in Student Affairs, students can work on campus for five to ten hours per week for a competitive hourly rate.
“ Work2Learn is a great way to get real-world work experience while in university; it exposed me to new people and opportunities that I otherwise would not have had. I’ve learned how to interact professionally with my coworkers and how important it is to use the support systems around me. Work2Learn helped me have a smooth transition into the workplace.

HELPING YOU FLOURISH
Attending student orientation events like Ahead of the Herd and New Student Orientation makes it easy to make friends before you start classes.
Ahead of the Herd (AOTH)
AOTH is for incoming students and their families. New students connect and get to know one another in a low-stakes environment. You’ll get to know the campus and learn about our student supports.
New Student Orientation
Learn about the ins and outs of being a student right before classes start. Find out who to ask for support in your courses and learn about the academic expectations of being a first-year student. You’ll meet the professors and staff who will be a resource for you throughout your time with us and get great tips and advice from current students.
“
Attending AOTH and NSO are fun experiences that help students to picture the next 4-5 years of their lives, and to make new friends before the first day of classes. You’ll get rid of those first day jitters and they are a lot of fun!
”
- ANGELINA
“The Early Start Experience (ESE) lets you come to campus a little earlier than most people, allows time to explore, make friends, get settled and learn some helpful things before the big rush of move-in day and everyone coming back to campus. ESE is amazing for those who may just need a little more time adjusting, who are a little worried about what university might hold for them, or those who just need a staggered entry into this new experience. ”
- STEPHANIE
ADVENTURE AWAITS
Early Start Experience (ESE)
You can take a liberal education course at the Lethbridge campus for full credit before the start of the Fall 2025 term. The ESE is open to all new ULethbridge students. It eases the transition from high school to university and you’ll get credit for your degree. You’ll get to know the Lethbridge campus, meet other students and your professors, and learn about our resources.
If you apply to ESE by the deadline and pay your deposits, you are guaranteed a bed in residence! Students who live off-campus can still take part in the ESE.
R.E.C. Rooms (Refresh Energize Connect)
R.E.C. Rooms are multi-site campus hubs where students can get away from the stress of studying or research to meet new people, blow off some steam and relax. There are areas for chatting or zoning out, playing VR games, puzzles, giant chess and art hives, or being active by playing Foosball and ping pong.
Your first year at university will be an exciting adventure, but it won’t always be easy. We’re here to help! Here are a few of our newest initiatives to support your successful transition to university.
StartSmart Quiz
This voluntary quiz is sent to incoming students on both campuses in August. It highlights your areas for growth and connects you with the ULethbridge services that will prepare you for success. The questions are related to areas like academic habits, financial preparedness and stress management. Students who take the quiz and participate in StartSmart programming are statistically more successful at ULethbridge.
“My favorite thing about attending Pronghorns games is that your major or Faculty doesn’t matter; it’s just ULethbridge students coming together to defend ULethbridge. Also, games are a good excuse to hang out with friends and destress during midterm season, plus, they’re free! You get to interact with other students and community members, and if you’re one to jump and cheer, you will definitely meet people who match your energy! ”

“ I moved from a big city, so at first living in Lethbridge was a bit of an adjustment. I quickly realized how much I love Lethbridge. It is a great size, with lots to explore but still easy to navigate. You can get across the city in 15 minutes! There are great hiking trails in the coulees and a nice river that you can float down during the summer. ”
