Innovative Offerings

NEW! Bachelor of Education: The Early Years*

The Faculty of Education will offer a direct entry from high school Bachelor of Education degree. Students will focus on general literacy and numeracy for Kindergarten to Grade 3 classrooms. This ia a four-year, singledegree program.

If you have students who are interested in one content area, or who would like to teach high school students, the five-year combined degrees program is a better option.

NEW! ULethbridge/ Bond University Australia

ULethbridge has partnered with Bond University on a new dual degree program. Students will take two years of a Bachelor of Arts (BA) (select majors) at ULethbridge and then apply to the two-year Bachelor of Laws (LLB) in Canadian Law at Bond University. At the end of the 54-course program, students will graduate with both BA and LLB degrees.

NEW! ULethbridge/Bow Valley College Integrated Pathway

Students can complete a ULethbridge Bachelor of Management (General Management) degree and BVC Business Administration Diploma (Supply Chain Management) in four years. Students will take classes simultaneously through both institutions while following a shared curriculum for both credentials.

NEW! Casper Test

Students interested in the Bachelor of Nursing After-Degree must complete and submit valid Casper test results as part of their admission requirements to the program. Casper is an online, open-response situational judgment test (SJT). It asks what students would do in a tough situation, and more

importantly, why. This helps determine behavioural tendencies of applicants pursuing people-centred professions.

NEW! Deferral Policy

Sometimes plans change and to better serve our students, ULethbridge has implemented an undergraduate deferral policy that will take effect for the Fall 2024 term. Students admitted to non-competitive programs can defer their start for up to one year.

NEW! Indigenous Governance and Business Management Diploma

The Dhillon School of Business now offers a diploma in IGBM. It is one of only a few Indigenous business diplomas in Canada, as well as the first diploma in the country focusing on both Indigenous business and governance.

NEW! StartSmart Quiz

This new initiative will help us give each incoming student personalized guidance and support. The voluntary quiz will highlight each student’s areas for growth and connect them with ULethbridge services to help them succeed.

Dual Credit

Dual credit is an opportunity for students in high school to take university entry-level courses while still attending high school. It introduces students to the rigours of postsecondary to ease the transition to university life and eventually to the workplace. Students will earn the usual five credits for a high school course and a three-credit course from ULethbridge. Dual credit is now searchable at: transferalberta.alberta.ca

Finance Diploma

The Finance Diploma is a two-year (20-course) university credential without a four-year degree commitment. The diploma will prepare students for entry- and mid-level management positions. This program is suitable for anyone with at least a high school education and who wants to build on their financial knowledge or pursue a professional designation in finance (i.e., GFA, QAFP, or CFP).

Dhillon School of Business Edge (DSB Edge)

As part of DSB Edge, students have a built-in community that enhances academic performance and social success. They’ll make friends, find study partners, develop resilience, and fine-tune their interpersonal skills.

Students get exclusive access to a special DSB Edge student orientation, leadership development opportunities, networking events and other student activities. Most importantly, they will be a part of a tight-knit community of business-minded students.

Early Start Experience (ESE)

Students can get a jump-start on the term by completing a liberal education course for credit, making friends and learning about ULethbridge opportunities all before the start of the Fall 2024 term. It promotes success and eases the transition from high school to university. Students also learn to articulate the value and impact of their experiences to future employers and highlight the range of skills developed during their degrees.

About Post-Diploma Programs

Applicants who have been awarded a diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution may be considered for admission to a PostDiploma Degree program at the University of Lethbridge. Post-Diploma Degree programs are typically 20 term courses in length and are composed of selected courses in the major subject and related disciplines, as well as courses to meet the Liberal Education List Requirement.

Approved Diplomas

Advance Placement (AP) and InternAtional Baccalaureate (IB)

General Admission

Applicants with two- or threeyear diplomas from recognized institutions, where the program has sufficient academic content and the diploma GPA is 2.0 or higher, will be considered for general admission to a transfer program in the Faculty of Arts & Science, Dhillon School of Business, Health Sciences, or Fine Arts. GPA criteria will vary for particular programs and are subject to change. All GPAs are expressed on the ULethbridge 4.0 GPA scale.

Dual Admission

Dual admission is a specific transfer admission route available for some degree programs open to students enrolled in a dual admission partner institution.

Dual admission applicants must meet all general admission and program-specific admission requirements in effect at the time of application.

Indigenous Student Success Certificate

The Indigenous Student Success Certificate (ISSC) is a first-year credit program that provides Indigenous students who do not meet the general requirements of the ULethbridge an opportunity to enter into, and succeed at, university. This program provides a solid foundation of core skills in a supportive cohort environment that attends to Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Learning.

It is also open to Indigenous students returning to university after an absence and, as space allows, to those who qualify for general admission but want the supports provided by the cohort.

Successful completion of the ISSC allows students to enter into most ULethbridge programs. Admission is on a case-by-case basis. For more information, contact ISSC Office at 403-329-2635.

Home School Applicants

Regardless of their citizenship or residency, home school applicants will be considered according to the curriculum they followed. For example, a home school applicant who studied Alberta curriculum is expected to meet the requirements of an Alberta high school applicant.

The applicant should challenge the departmental examinations in courses where such examinations exist to provide grades in the subjects challenged. The applicant would be considered for admission when they present final grades in five distinct subjects.

An applicant who presents both a high school diploma and appropriate, satisfactory standardized test scores, either ACT or both SAT I and II, will be considered for general admission.

Mature Student Admission

Applicants who are a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident, age 21 years or older, and who do not meet current admission requirements of any other admission route may be considered for Mature Student admission.

Applicants who have completed high school requirements with an admission average of at least 60%, or have a minimum grade of 65% in English 30-1 or 30-2 and passing grades in two other 30-level courses will be considered for admission. For applicants who have not completed high school requirements, a combination of academic credentials, standardized test scores, and evidence of life experiences may be considered.

The applicant is assessed for potential post-secondary success, which is the standard of admission for this route. A resume and letter of intent are required for admission purposes. Additional advice is available from Admissions.

Standardized Test Admission

Standardized test admission route applicants who present acceptable ACT (American College Testing) or SAT (Scholastic Academic Test) scores will be considered for general admission. In the case of the SAT written prior to March 2016, the applicant must present complete SAT (Critical Reading, Mathematics and Writing) and three additional SAT Subject Test scores. In the case of the SAT written after March 2016, a minimum combined Evidence-Based Reading and Writing plus Math (ERW+M) score of 1040 is required. In the case of the ACT, a composite score of 20 is required. Applicants are also required to meet program-specific admission requirements and therefore will be required to submit their high school transcript for review.

Certificate in Arts and Science

The Certificate in Arts and Science is a gateway for students to complete a university credential faster than a standard degree. To apply, students need a passing grade in English Language Arts 30-1 (or an equivalent), or they can access it through the Post-Secondary Admission Route. Students can test the waters of post-secondary education on a part-time or full-time basis, choosing either an arts or science stream. At the completion of this ten-course program, they can apply to ladder their certificate into a degree.

Post-Secondary Admission

Applicants who have completed six or more transferable term courses at one or more post-secondary institutions will be considered as Post-Secondary applicants.

To qualify for general admission, Post-Secondary applicants must have an admission average of at least 2.0 on the ULethbridge 4.0 GPA scale, calculated on all transferable courses.

Satisfactory completion of certain Alberta high school courses or equivalents is required for admission to some majors. See High School Admission Requirements by Program for quota and specialized program admission requirements.

Upon admission, students are assigned transfer credit on a course-by-course basis for eligible post-secondary work. Transfer of credit may serve to reduce the number of courses which must be completed at ULethbridge in order to complete a program of studies.

Applied and Technology Degrees

Applicants presenting applied or technology degrees from recognized colleges or technical institutes in Canada with GPAs of 2.0 or higher on the ULethbridge 4.0 GPA scale will be considered for admission to first degree, undergraduate non-quota programs. These applicants will be considered for admission to quota programs according to their qualifications.

Transfer credit will be awarded according to regular ULethbridge procedures and policies, including those pertaining to residency, major and time limits.

Applied and technology degrees are not normally considered to be a basis of admission for second degree or graduate studies programs.

Degree Holders

Applicants who have completed, with satisfactory grades, one or more academic degrees from a recognized university, will be considered for admission to another degree program at ULethbridge. The declared ULethbridge program/major must be dissimilar from any degree already completed. Second degree program requirements are individualized for each student. Courses completed during a student’s first degree, as well as those completed after, may affect the program content and/or reduce the number of courses required to complete subsequent degrees. English Language and SPEAKING Requirements

English Language Proficiency

English is the primary language of instruction and communication at ULethbridge. Prior to registration, all undergraduate students must demonstrate English language proficiency sufficient to meet the demands of classroom instruction, written assignments and participation in tutorials and discussions, regardless of their citizenship status or country of origin. There are two types of English requirements that apply to applicants to ULethbridge:

1. English Language Proficiency (ELP): Admission requirement for all applicants to undergraduate programs

2. Spoken English Language Proficiency (SELP): Admission requirement for applicants to programs offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences

English Language Proficiency (ELP) must be presented prior to admission and may be shown in a number of ways, including:

• Alberta English Language Arts 30-1 or equivalent, with a minimum final (blended) grade of 75 per cent; a grade of 5 or higher IB Higher or Standard-level English; a grade of 4 or higher AP English; a grade of B or higher in GCSE A/S-level or A-level English

• Successful completion of a minimum two years of full-time academic study in English at a post-secondary institution in Canada or another country where English is recognized as the primary language. English as a Second Language of study is not considered academic.

• Successful completion of the Advanced Level of ULethbridge’s English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program

• A score of at least 80 on the iBT, with scores of at least 16 on each of Listening, Reading, and Speaking, and a score of at least 18 on Writing on the most recent official TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or TOEFL iBT Home Edition score, taken within the last two years.

• Most recent official Academic IELTS (International English Language Testing System) or IELTS online score, taken within the last two years,with an overall score of at least 6.0 and at least 6.0 in each band

• Duolingo, minimum score 105

Spoken English Language Proficiency

In addition to the English Language Proficiency requirement for ULethbridge undergraduate admission, all applicants to the Faculty of Health Sciences must also meet the Spoken English Language Proficiency (SELP) requirement. This additional SELP requirement is essential because students must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues, instructors, health care professionals, and the public in a variety of settings to be successful in these programs.

Evidence of Spoken English Language Proficiency (SELP) must be presented prior to admission and may be shown in a number of ways, including:

• Acceptable evidence of at least six consecutive years of full-time studies in a country and institution in which the primary language is English, including the successful completion of English Language Arts 30-1 or equivalent

• A score of at least 26 on the International Benchmark Test (iBT) Speaking section

• A score of at least 7.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

Speaking band

• A score of at least 70 on the Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Speaking sub-test

• A score of at least 3 on the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB)

Speaking section

• Current registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) or College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA)

Students at ULethbridge may prepare themselves to apply for admission to a number of professional programs offered at other universities.

Through arrangements between ULethbridge and professional faculties at other universities, transfer programs have been established for the professional transfer programs listed below. Admission to the destination institutions is by quota and is competitive.

Connecting the University of Lethbridge with Calgary’s East Village and the downtown core, our Calgary campus offers flexible programs developed with the working professional in mind. Our space and delivery methods are designed for maximum flexibility with your personal schedule.

ULethbridge in Calgary offers flexible programs developed with the working professional in mind. Classes are offered in the evenings and on weekends so students can continue to work while they earn their degrees.

The student experience on our Calgary campus is much different than on our Lethbridge campus; it is not intended to meet the particular social and services needs of new students direct from high school, with the exception of the ULethbridge/BVC Integrated Pathway. See highlighted box below.

Students from Calgary who attend classes on the Lethbridge campus, may choose to take courses on our Calgary campus when they return for the summer break. We offer a wide variety of courses in a number of subject areas. It’s a way for students to ensure they stay on track (or get ahead) with their program.

University of Lethbridge (Calgary Campus)/Bow Valley College Integrated Pathway

Newly admitted high school students can complete a ULethbridge Bachelor of Management (General Management) degree and BVC Business Administration Diploma (Supply Chain Management) in four years. Students will take classes through both institutions while following a shared curriculum for both credentials. This is the only ULethbridge program with daytime classes on the Calgary Campus.

Master of Education Routes

Thinking about furthering your education? ULethbridge offers three majors for our Master of Education program.

1. General – The program is delivered in a blended format for working professionals. Online learning is complemented with inperson components in July. Cohorts rotate through study themes reflecting new curricula. Study themes include:

• Literacy and Numeracy in Canadian Classrooms Summer 2024

• Deadline to apply is March 15 annually.

2. Educational Leadership prepares educators for key school leadership careers. The program is delivered in a blended format for working professionals. Online learning is complemented with in-person components in July. This program meets the Leadership Quality Standard certification requirement. Individuals who aspire to be a school principal in Alberta require this leadership certification

• Deadline to apply is March 15 annually.

3. Counselling Psychology is designed to provide training for people who want to develop professional skills and certification in counselling psychology. The emphasis of the program is on the provision of counsellor training for those individuals who aspire to be a Canadian Certified Counsellor or Registered Psychologist.

How to apply for admission

Applying to ULethbridge is as easy as one, two, three...

To apply to ULethbridge, students must create an ApplyAlberta account before completing their ULethbridge application. Applicants can access the application from our website ulethbridge.ca/future-student as well as at applyalberta.ca.

High school applicants: Published Grade 11 grades will be used to determine conditional admission to ULethbridge. Final Grade 12 grades will be reviewed and must meet admission requirements prior to the appropriate document deadlines.

Include valid credit card information for payment of the application fee.

Student Application Fee

The application fee for admission to an undergraduate program is $140.

Conditional Admission

Conditional admission decisions are made on the basis of published Grade 11 grades (high school applicants), transcripts and/or mid-term mark statements (for courses in progress) received by the Admission decision document deadline. Applicants offered conditional admission must meet or exceed the admission standards of their program by the final document deadline.

Official Documents

Through ApplyAlberta, applicants authorize ULethbridge to request transcripts on their behalf from Alberta Education and/or participating post-secondary institutions in Alberta. Applicants attending institutions not participating in ApplyAlberta or any educational institution out-of-province must arrange to have official transcripts sent directly to Admissions.

Applicants currently studying at institutions not participating in ApplyAlberta or any educational institution out-of-province are strongly advised to arrange, at the time of application, for the submission of interim transcripts if required final transcripts are not yet available. Final, official transcripts must be submitted on or before the final document deadline Visit applyalberta.ca for more information.

Education Combined Degrees

Applicants may not apply directly into the Faculty of Education from high school. Interested applicants should initially apply to a pre-Bachelor of Education Combined Degrees program (pre-BA/BEd, pre-BSc/BEd, pre-BFA/BEd, pre-BMus/BEd, pre-BMgt/BEd).

From Application to Registration

Applicants, upon submitting an application, receive notification via email of their:

• Nine-digit ULethbridge student identification number

• Information regarding the application for scholarships

ULethbridge ID Number | Students need this nine-digit number to log on to the Bridge for the first time and set up their ULethbridge username and password.

Applicants should notify us immediately if their contact information changes. Log on to the Bridge (bridge.uleth.ca), email admissions@uleth.ca. We send important information by email so it is important for applicants to check their accounts regularly.

Applicants can check their application status, including required documents, at any time by logging on to the Bridge (bridge.uleth.ca).

An applicant offered admission receives an offer by email, followed by a mailed Welcome Package. We email registration information once it is available.

Applicants must complete the Confirmation of Admission online, or submit the form with the non-refundable tuition deposit before the expiry date identified in the Offer of Admission.

Expiry Date | Applicants must submit their Confirmation of Admission by the expiry date. If more time is needed, applicants should contact Admissions to determine next steps. admissions@uleth.ca

Confirmation of Admission | To confirm their offer of admission, applicants must accept their Offer of Admission and pay online via the Bridge. If applicants are unable to pay online via credit card, they need to send the form back to Admissions (signed and dated). A tuition deposit MUST accompany this form. Note: This deposit is in addition to the application fee that has already been paid and is non-refundable Students who apply online do not need to send in the admission forms. Anyone who wishes to decline their offer can email admissions@uleth.ca

Program Planning Guides (PPGs) | Program planning guides list all required courses and include a suggested sequence plan for how to complete the program. These guides are available online at ulethbridge.ca/ross/ppgs

Timeframe | Registration for the fall term typically starts March 1. Students who have been offered admission will normally receive registration information from us by email in early-April. A student can register on or after their assigned date, but earlier registration is better for course selection.

Registration Date | This is the first day students can log on to the Bridge to add courses to their class schedule. Registration continues until the end of the first week of classes. To assist students with the process of registration, we host online and in-person registration workshops. Contact inquiries@uleth.ca for more information.

Liberal Education List Requirement | All ULethbridge students must complete the Liberal Education List Requirement. This involves taking at least four courses from three different areas: fine arts and humanities, social sciences, and sciences. The required courses in a student’s program typically fulfill some of this requirement, so the program planning guide, timetable, and Academic Calendar should be used to determine which additional courses should be taken. International Students

All applicants must present qualifications comparable to those of Canadian applicants:

• Applicants with completed, appropriate secondary qualifications from other countries will be considered for High School admission.

• To ensure success in academic study, all applicants, regardless of citizenship or country of origin, must meet the English language proficiency (ELP) requirements through recognized study or a valid standardized test score.

• Studies completed at recognized universities and colleges will be considered for PostSecondary admission, as appropriate.

• Applicants currently completing courses at Canadian High schools will be considered for early admission on the basis of final Grade 11 grades. For this purpose, the applicant will provide final grades for grade 11 and Grade 12 courses already completed.

HOUSING

On-campus Housing

The University of Lethbridge offers a wide variety of on-campus living options, from single rooms to shared apartments.

Students who join us direct from high school or who take less than one year off between high school and university are considered New University students.

New students can apply online to stay in traditional-style dorms in University Hall (UHall), or one-, two- or fourbedroom apartments in Aperture Park. These are fully furnished with a bed (with storage space underneath), a desk and storage for clothing. Satellite television, wireless internet and all utilities are included. They also include common areas where students can meet up with friends, play video games, watch movies and unwind.

New students living in residence are required to purchase a dining plan, as they may be living away from home for the first time. This ensures first-year students have access to nutritious food with minimal effort.

Housing Deadlines

Students are advised to apply as early as possible to improve their chances for accommodation. Newly admitted applicants, who apply before April 1, will have their names entered into an accommodation lottery. Approximately 75% of the allocated beds will be randomly selected. The names drawn will be guaranteed accommodation prior to May 15.

Off-campus Housing

To help students who choose to live off campus, Housing Services maintains an off-campus housing registry that provides a range of off-campus housing opportunities such as room and board, shared suites and apartments available for rent in the Lethbridge area. This list has excellent community support and is frequently updated. The list may be accessed online.

Accessible Learning Centre

Formerly known as the Accommodated Learning Centre, the Accessible Learning Centre (ALC) can support student requests for special testing or registration procedures once their disability has been documented. They can also guide students to local services or agencies which may be of assistance. Special equipment or specialized services frequently must be funded through agencies outside ULethbridge. Questions regarding physical access may also be brought to the ALC staff who will then direct students to the appropriate ULethbridge office or personnel.
