FEATURE ternational curricula, thus attracting several renowned international schools and colleges to the region. A high personal income level alongside a tax-free environment has resulted in the deployment of funds towards a recession-free investment in education. Within the GCC region, the number of students in Oman, Qatar and the UAE are expected to grow at a faster pace compared to other member nations. With a broadening outlook on gaining international exposure to the prevalent global business environment, the Executive MBA is a contemporary programme developed to provide students a competitive edge when it comes to acquiring knowledge and skills related to the social, economic and environmental aspects of international business. It is designed to meet the needs of emerging professionals and strategise on developing effective and tech-savvy managers for today’s dynamic global organisation. The executive

education programmes encompass the different responses that are employed to address the challenges posed by traditional management education, by way of new business models, digital learning and corporate partnerships. Employers are increasingly seeking candidates with a distinctly global outlook about the way the world does business, as well as a profound understanding of the local business environment. QATAR Qatar’s Education City hosts campuses of several international colleges and universities. As mentioned in Alpen Capital’s analysis, Qatar was ranked second for the quality of higher education and training as per the 2015-2016 Global Competitiveness Report by the World Economic Forum. This seems to be supported by the presence of world-renowned universities such as Weill Cornell Medical College, Carnegie Mellon University, University College London, and Virginia Commonwealth University. Qatar performed better than the other GCC nations in the competitiveness parameters for quality of education. HEC Paris is the first European Partner in the Education City and offers a comprehensive portfolio of management programmes, including Qatar’s first international Executive MBA, a specialised Master’s degree in Strategic Business Unit Management, as well as non-degree management programmes for executives, with the form of open-enrolment programmes. In the advent of efficient and innovative corporate initiatives, HEC Paris creates and delivers customised programmes and bespoke executive management programmes. These programmes are further complemented by short, high impact Open Enrolment Programmes, Executive MBA and Specialized Master’s Degree in Strategic Business Unit Management (SBUM). Georgetown University offers an assorted bouquet of Certificate Courses in Business Economics, Digital Marketing Strategy in the Global Economy, International Finance, Applied Econometrics: Panel Data, Big Data Analytics, Family Business: Preserving the Legacy and Emergency & Disaster Manage-

ment. Carnegie Mellon Qatar was established in 2004 at the invitation of Qatar Foundation. CMU-Q graduates have CMU degrees, conferred from the Pittsburgh campus. Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) offers a range of training services at the Executive Education Excellence Center (EEEC) which lead to obtaining certificates in administrative leadership and a graduate certificate in executive leadership. The Center offers a number of modular training programmes in technical and administrative fields for working professionals looking to expand their knowledge and develop new skills. The courses provide professional certification and seek to have practical relevance for participants. As Qatar moves toward realising its vision, executive education will continue to have a key role to play.

UAE Education with an international affiliation in the United Arab Emirates is wooing students like never before with its twin advantages of tax-free earnings after graduation and some of the best universities in the Gulf region. In addition, a number of highly ranked universities based in other countries have branch campuses in the UAE. The education market in Dubai is the most sophisticated and competitive within the GCC. The demand for executive education is driven by the larger expatriate community as well as an increase in the number of Emiratis, who are willing to pay higher fees to study an international curriculum. The UAE government has been taking significant strides to fulfil its vision to build a first-rate education system. In the 2015-2016 Global Competitiveness Report, the UAE

8 was ranked 12th based on the parameters of quality of higher education and training. The quality of education is indicative of the existence of renowned schools and colleges in the country including names like London Business School, New York University of Technology, Rochester Institute of Technology, and The Wharton School. Dubai’s state of the art infrastructure, easy visa policies, favourable investment climate and strategic location have drawn reputed foreign educational providers. The presence of over 200 nationalities in Dubai makes it a melting pot of cultures from all around the world. Hult’s Global Executive MBA at Dubai offers a flexible business education with a customised curriculum and works closely with Fortune 500 companies to arrange on-campus networking events, global career open houses, and sponsorship of the Hult Business Challenge. The University of Manchester, the University of Bolton, the University of Strathclyde Business School, the University of Wolverhampton, the Bradford Executive MBA in Dubai (part-

time), Columbia Business School, and Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan are some major international business school players who offer EMBAs. The GCC education sector is witnessing a robust growth in student enrolments coupled with a steady expansion in related infrastructure. Government reforms and spending have played a key role in strengthening the sector. Measures to encourage private sector investments alongside an increasing preference for international curricula amongst residents are attracting renowned foreign education institutes to the region. New players are venturing into this oasis of premier education; Curtin University, an Australian University, is all set to open its doors to students at The Dubai International Academic City (DIAC) this September. Given the underlying demographics and the economic strength of the region, it is not surprising that leading business schools are keen on serving the growing education market with international MBAs and EMBAs.

CANADIAN UNIVERSITY DUBAI CANADIAN UNIVERSITY DUBAI ENTERS NEW ERA New strategic direction will see the University launch 13 new programs in the Creative Industries, Engineering, Business Administration and Psychology
C
anadian University Dubai has been working hard to design thirteen new programmes in areas of key importance to the United Arab Emirates and its strategies for economic diversification. Four of the new programs are being developed in partnership with two of Canada’s leading universities, Queen’s University and Ryerson University. The programmes, a Bachelor in Creative Industries and Bachelors of Science (BSc) in Biomedical Computing, Computing and Software Design, are currently under review by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHSER) in the UAE and will be officially launched upon accreditation, as will the other programs: BSc’s in Electrical Engineering – Electronics, Cyber Security and Mechatronics, Bachelors in Business Administration (BBA) in Forensic Accounting, Events and Tourism Management, Luxury Marketing, Operations and Supply Chain Management and Sports Management; and a Bachelor of Arts and BSc in Psychology. The programmes in Creative Industries, Computing, Biomedical Computing and Software Design will offer students the chance to complete two of their four years of study at Ryerson or Queen’s respectively. The exclusive Bachelor in Creative Industries, created in collaboration with Ryerson University’s Faculty of Communication and Design (FCAD), will combine creativity with business acumen in order to create a cadre of highly qualified students capable of leading the quickly expanding arts and culture industry in the UAE and abroad. The “Creative Industries” refers to a distinctive group of creative fields

pertaining to media, design, entertainment and the visual and performing arts. The proposed courses include offerings like “Imagining the Creative City” and “Entrepreneurship in Creative Industries”, “Financial Management” and “Organisational Problem Solving and Report Writing” alongside modules in Fashion, Interior Design and Media. BSc’s in Biomedical Computing, Computing and Software Design have been designed in cooperation with Queen’s University and are specialised programmes that combine Computer Science and Computing Mathematics and apply them to areas of key importance, such as the creation of new and innovative platforms for a range of industries from hospitality to healthcare. “All of our new programme directions are in areas that have been identified as instrumental to the economic growth of the UAE, and also areas that are expanding quickly internationally,” says Dr. Karim Chelli, President and Vice Chancellor of Canadian University Dubai. “The development of these programmes is part of our new strategic direction, which will cement our place as a leading university in the UAE and the providers of a unique and high quality education. These new courses are for ambitious, innovative students, who see themselves as future industry leaders and influencers, and we look forward to making them part of our exciting community.” Students interested in learning more about these programmes, and programmes already accredited by MOHESR, can visit www.cud.ac.ae to talk to an admissions agent. Applications are currently open for September 2017.

THE UNIVERSITY OF MANCHESTER The Middle East Centre opened in Dubai Knowledge Park in 2006 and has supported more than 2,200 part-time MBA students; the university has introduced new industry-led Masters and executive education programmes to meet regional needs
T
he University of Manchester’s Alliance Manchester Business School is consistently ranked among the Financial Times’ top international schools; The 2017 Financial Times survey ranks the university’s MBA 3rd in the UK, 10th in Europe and 30th in the world. According to the FT, the school’s MBA students can expect a 108% salary increase three years after graduation. Accreditation The university is part of a small and select group of institutions worldwide that is accredited by all three major MBA bodies – AACSB International, AMBA and EQUIS; all MBA degrees are awarded by The University of Manchester. Middle East Centre One of the six international executive centres worldwide, the Middle East Centre at Dubai Knowledge Park opened in 2006 and has supported more than 2,200 part-time MBA students in the region. It is the largest and fastest growing centre in the school’s international network. The 24-month, Global Part-time MBA offers students with as much face-to-face time as most full-time MBAs. Professionals have the option to accelerate their programme even further with an 18month Global MBA Finance Accelerated option; or the Global MBA Accelerated programme, which is a closed cohort. Face to face contact with faculty is a major component of the Manchester Global MBA and the regular student workshops bring together many of the MBA students not only from the region, but also those international students who elect to come to the Dubai centre for their workshops, enabling them to build on their global network.
MBS Global Part-time MBA students are all experienced working professionals and many are employed in senior positions by some of the world’s leading multinational companies, as well as local and regional companies. Around 30% of students are already in c-level roles and 10% of students already hold a Master’s degree. Students graduating through the Global Part-time MBA programme are awarded the same Manchester MBA as students on the full time, campus-based programme, and receive the same degree from The University of Manchester. No distinction is made between full-time and part-time students - all have achieved the same high standard required of a successful Manchester MBA graduate. In the Middle East, the university offers its world class part-time MBA, in addition to a new portfolio of executive education programmes, and research and consultancy projects led by university faculty. The centre is currently running an original research programme into the drivers and barriers to creativity and innovation in the unique cultural context of the GCC. In addition to the Global Part-time MBA and existing suite of Executive Education programmes, the university has introduced additional industry-led Masters programmes to the region. The first of these include the MSc International Healthcare Leadership, MSc Occupational Medicine, and the MSc Reliability Engineering and Asset Management. The university works in a range of regional collaborations with professional bodies such as CIMA, ACCA, IMA and PMI, as well as UK organisations including UKTI and British Centres for Business. In addition, the university has forged a range of partnerships with public and private organisations through its Strategic Talent Partnership programme.

5 CAREER
FAST TIPS FOR FRESHMEN

1
STARTING UNIVERSITY FROM TEAM PROED
ORIENTATION WEEK: BE LESS AFRAID AND MORE PROACTIVE Orientation week is where you will establish most of your first impressions of university life. The place where you will meet new friends, professors and academic advisors. It is during this one week that your academic expectations will be established; you will learn the scope of the resources your university has available. Being proactive during this time is vital for your success over the next years on campus. Get involved and explore the various clubs, organisations at your school, as well as the local area. This place will soon become your new home. This is also true for your parents. Encourage them to attend their own orientation sessions, so they feel more at ease with you being away from home. Remember: the less they worry, the more relaxed you’ll feel. The more they know about life on campus, the smoother the transition into university life will be. Lastly, don’t be afraid to voice your doubts. Orientation week is all about asking questions, and it’s the best possible time during your academic career to do so. Don’t be afraid, come prepared with questions you want to be answered.

MANAGE YOUR TIME, MANAGE YOUR LIFE The start of university will open the door to several new experiences. One of them is a challenge, in disguise: not having your parents around. This means that you and only you are now responsible for where and how to spend your time. You should prioritise your academic work, but you must also establish a balance between that and the many activities, societies and social groups you’ll interact with on a daily basis. Regular note taking as well as being in touch with your teaching assistants will prove highly beneficial during exam time – the most important part of the year, and one that will ultimately determine your standing within the institution. To-do lists, as well as short and long-term goals, are all things worth considering. Be flexible, yet focused and hone your time management skills.

NEVER QUESTION YOURSELF, OR YOUR QUESTIONS Some classrooms are filled with forty students, and others a hundred and forty. Asking questions in any crowded environment can sometimes feel very intimidating. However, it is important to understand that your professors, tutors and lecturers were all in the same position as you were just a few years ago. They understand the pressures of learning in large groups and will answer respectfully. If you have a question, ask it. Don’t start doubting whether or not a question is valid, because if you are confused the chances are you’re not the only one. Everyone in the room is in the same position as you are, and will probably have similar questions to yours. Make friends with your fellow students on the same course as you. In addition to helping you learn, they may also come in handy when you’ve had a late night and potentially look to skip that morning lecture the next day.
4
WATCH YOUR WEIGHT Everyone has heard of ‘The freshman fifteen’. It’s a phenomenon among college first-years that says the average student gains about fifteen pounds. Having to manage money and strict deadlines often makes students extremely vulnerable to extra fries and unhealthy meals. But try and avoid this behavior. Eating and remaining healthy is more important now than it has ever been, as your family will no longer be able to nurture you back to health after getting sick. There’s no better place to stay healthy and keep fit than on a university campus. There will be a wealth of recreational activities both on and off campus, but you don’t need to spend hours at the gym, either. Using a bike to go to and from your classes, and playing sports with your friends are both fun and natural methods of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
18_TIPS.indd 19
EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED Be prepared to feel overwhelmed at first. The transition from your school life to a college environment is far more than just a change of location. You will also be completely independent and away from home. There’s no reason to ignore these changes; it’s much better to accept and address them. Avoid feeling lonely by making new connections with friends who you can lean on for support. And if you do find yourself feeling helpless in a new environment, don’t fret. You are not the only one, and your university has services that will help you adjust. Consider becoming a member of a club that takes your interest, or join a sorority to make friends instantly. If you still feel uneasy, then you might want to check in with your university’s human resource forums, and agencies and leave it to the specialists.
19
A FINAL WORD OF ADVICE You’ve done all the preparation work – you’ve got the right grades in school, scored well on placement tests and been accepted into college. Well done. Make sure you take the time to enjoy your hard work while laying the groundwork for a successful academic career. Don’t be a drop-out statistic; be determined to make it through your freshman year, and beyond it. Take advantage of your new network of friends and professors, and have fun while learning to get the most out of your time at university.

STRATHCLYDE BUSINESS SCHOOL SBS is internationally respected as one of the most innovative and largest business schools of its kind in the region
O
ne of the oldest, largest and most respected business schools in the UK, Strathclyde Business School has consistently been ranked in the top 10 B-schools in the UK in terms of both research and teaching quality. Over the course of its history, Strathclyde Business School’s pioneering and innovative outlook has led to a number of firsts including being the first UK B-school to offer a one year full-time MBA programme in 1966, and the first to offer a parttime MBA programme at its international centres (launched in South-East Asia in 1988). More recently in November 2016, the school was named ‘UK Business School of the Year’ at the Times Higher Education (THE) Awards in London in recognition of its outstanding overall performance and innovative and entrepreneurial outlook. Awarded to the business school which demonstrated ‘the most outstanding overall performance during the 2014-15 academic year’, the prestigious award measured business schools against indicators including innovation, teaching, research, student experience, alumni relations and development. Judges looked at how each business school had built partnerships with the business community and the benefits this had brought to both sides. Executive Dean, Professor David Hillier said: “We are delighted with this award as it recognised what we aim to do – build strong and enduring links with the business community which help both business and the business school flourish. The year also saw us placed highly in rankings such as the Financial Times and the Economist. And in 2016 we also celebrated 50 years of our renowned MBA programme.” The Strathclyde Executive MBA is offered at 8 international centres; Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Oman, Bahrain, Singapore, Malaysia, Greece and Switzerland. The programme is taught part time over two years and, with the exception of the mode of study, is identical to the full-time MBA in the UK – the same entry criteria, programme content, assessment and
core learning materials, and it is taught by the same Strathclyde academics who teach in Glasgow. The Strathclyde MBA is a generalist MBA and students can expect to graduate with a broad understanding of the fundamentals of business and management issues, advanced management skills and techniques, self-awareness as a manager and leader and with increased confidence in all areas of business, says programme director Dr Ron Bradfield. “The Strathclyde MBA is highly experiential and based on collaborative learning, and through the class discussions, presentations and group assignments, students share their varied work experiences, knowledge, understanding and skills.” A particular strength of the programme is strategic management with three interrelated courses that culminate in a three-day Strategic Consulting in Practice workshop, where students undertake a real-life strategy assignment for a client. Entrepreneurship is also in focus, with core courses and elective options providing the essential skills to enhance the abilities of people working for themselves or about to set up in business. This year the programme has been augmented by the addition of a course on managing technology and innovation. There are options for international study too. With a wide range of specialist departments in the business school, Strathclyde offers over 20 different electives, and students can opt to take elective subjects at the Summer School in Glasgow or at any of the school’s international centres. Strathclyde is among an elite group of only 74 B-schools in the world (2016) which hold triple international accreditation (AMBA, EQUIS and AACSB). In addition, the Strathclyde MBA is accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

EXECUTIVE EDUCATION TRENDS TO WATCH OUT FOR
Change truly is the only constant in current times and the educational arena accentuates the same. The executive education sector too has undergone significant transition over the years, with institutions constantly focussing on improvising content and delivery and restructuring their curriculum in order to enhance relevance and function
L
et us look at a few major trends that have a hold on the current executive education market:
MOOC (MASSIVE OPEN ONLINE COURSE) Technology has penetrated every field of education making these very exciting times to study in. It is obliterating the gaps that existed in the past while opening doors for ground-breaking ways to educate the masses. MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) are huge repositories of video lectures and assignments curated by professors of global

institutions. Due to a number of reasons related to convenience, accessibility, complexity and excessive cost, there had been a significant dearth in the number of students taking up higher education and executive courses in the past. MOOCs have made important courses available to this demographic. College students as well as long-time industry professionals looking to upgrade their skills and procure career fulfilment, are opting for MOOCs. With enrolments pouring in from all over the world and forums that facilitate consistent communication between students, MOOCs are producing global citizens, better

With assignments that heavily employ social media reach and conducting social experiments online for a higher grade, business programmes in recent times are exceedingly relying on the power of these media to impart lessons. Every organisation, irrespective of size, is allocating a large chunk of their resources to augment their media presence. It is thus the need of the hour for business graduates to be able to work their way around this influential tool at their disposal. There are entire courses dedicated to harnessing the power of social media and these are getting increasingly popular with individuals interested in marketing their products and reaching a larger audience. Social Media Marketing (SMM) and Digital Marketing are clearly trends sought after in the business circles. Social Media, through its engaging and inclusive nature is bringing people across the globe together and along with them, their challenges. It has given rise to collaborative business models that take on the task of solving these remote problems.
28 equipped to solve global challenges. Another interesting aspect of online education is the blended course option that gives students insights of the entire programme before they sign up for the same. The programme is structured such that an individual can enrol for a few of the courses online and only if satisfied pay the tuition for the entire suite. Pioneered by MIT, it is slowly being looked at as a way forward by major institutions around the world. SOCIAL MEDIA The education sector is definitely not untouched by the explosive growth of social media in the recent past. Social media platforms have become the latest libraries and bulletin boards for faculty and students alike. It is extremely favourable for faculty to manage projects and collaborate with students through these platforms. Collaborative and shared projects are almost entirely conducted over the cloud making it more conven-

FINDING RELEVANCE IN SKILLS There has been a significant alteration in the way universities look at students and the required skills. Traditionally, universities have been imparting only research based, well thought out theoretical solutions to problem statements in classrooms. Without thorough experience backed questions, graduates were being trained to deal with challenges

that were far from real world organisational needs. The graduates were then expected to go out, use these skills and set trends in the market. But as economies are increasingly becoming market driven, these manoeuvres have been rendered pointless. Universities have realised the impact of the voice of the consumer even in a classroom setting. More and more business programmes are constructed to emulate real life business problems and students are trained to tackle these issues. Programmes that focus more on consulting skills are on the rise. Industry experts and global consulting companies are increasingly getting into the executive education space. University based executive programmes are helping students think from the consumers’ point of view, develop and build innovative solutions that could potentially disrupt the market or become a problem solver for multiple stakeholders. In a nutshell, lately, institutions have had to redefine what skills they consider to be relevant to be able to thrive in a highly demanding and competitive market. ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION There has been a tremendous increase in the number of budding start-ups that are trying to provide inventive solutions to existing and potential market problems. Identifying the
need to build viable and productive entrepreneurs, institutions are increasingly designing courses that not only train students and professionals in certain aspects of the business such as marketing, finance or sales but to also empower them to start their own business ventures. These programmes are structured to nurture graduates with the innate ability to begin from the fundamentals and build up sustainable enterprises. More recently there has been an increasing demand for entrepreneurship courses to commence at lower levels of education too, instead of only at the masters, so as to prepare enterprising individuals at an early juncture. MINI MBA The Mini MBA is another of the remarkable changes that are taking place in the higher education sector. The most attractive feature of this trend is the kind of professionals that it is attracting. There are mini MBA programmes set up for doctors, military veterans, engineers and technology managers, healthcare practioners and other diverse professionals. These courses empower the professionals with robust understanding of their business sectors and empowers them with the relevant business oriented skill sets. The media and methods of learning are being progressively redefined, especially in the executive education segment. Institutions are experimenting with the kind of education they provide, while structuring innovative and enterprising programmes that have revolutionised executive education.
PROGRAMMES THAT FOCUS MORE ON CONSULTING SKILLS ARE ON THE RISE. INDUSTRY EXPERTS AND GLOBAL CONSULTING COMPANIES ARE INCREASINGLY GETTING INTO THE EXECUTIVE EDUCATION SPACE 26_feat 3.indd 30

COLLEGE OF THE NORTH ATLANTIC - QATAR CUSTOMISED CORPORATE LEARNING AT CNA-Q Qatar’s Premier Technical College
“ B
C
ollege of the North Atlantic - Qatar (CNA-Q) strongly believes that learning is a lifelong adventure, to be pursued at any age. Beyond the 30 academic credit programmes tailored towards preparing Qatari high school graduates for the workforce, the College’s Corporate Services Department partners with business, industry, government and community organisations to develop and deliver corporate learning solutions in the State of Qatar. The department uses the College’s world-class facilities and technology, applied teaching and learning techniques and expert instructors to design enhanced leadership, workforce upskilling and continuing professional development offerings to existing employees in oil and gas, health care, banking & financial, infrastructure, hospitality and government sectors including the military. The Corporate Services Department works in close collaboration with CNA-Q’s academic Schools – Health Sciences, Business Studies, Information Technology, Engineering Technology and Trades and English Language and Academics – as well as other college departments to meet the learning needs of corporate clients and their employees as well as professionals who need technical training or continuing professional development (CPD). In 2016, student registrations for corporate learning topped the 4,800 mark, including allied health professionals who require 80 CPD credits every two years as a condition of licensing and participated in 109 accredited CPD activities. Most offerings are “sold out” shortly after publication of the CPD Calendar. CNA-Q’s School of Health Sciences has been accredited by the Ministry of Public Health’s Qatar Council for Health Practitioners (QCHP) as one of the few CPD providers in support of medical licensing in the State since 2013. “We also see increased corporate interest in customised English language training, short technical courses, certification training, and CPD across
32_QATAR.indd 33
multiple sectors, either as dedicated contracts or public offerings from a Corporate Calendar,” according to Manager Sharon McLennon. “As well, leadership development is an important area of corporate learning at CNA-Q. As the State’s premier technical college, we will continue to focus on supporting our clients as they address their most pressing challenges and opportunities related to achieving the National Vision 2030,” said McLennon. Presenting to Influence and Persuade, focusing on three areas of leadership development - confidence, persuasion, and presence - has been delivered to a number of groups of developing senior Qatari management at QP. Adaptive Leadership, drawing on Harvard University best practices in executive training and leadership development, was delivered to the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) entirely in Arabic. The 12-day programme coached senior executives on how to become more effective leaders, offering tools to seek out innovative ways of providing exceptional healthcare through strategic planning and implementation. “This has been one of the most informative, engaging and interactive courses that I have attended. The learning environment is conducive to collaborating with other participants and the instructor has proven himself an expert in leadership and development practices and as a master facilitator,” said Dr. Mohamed El Kilani, Head of Non-Clinical Training at PHCC. “Overall, my experience at the College of the North Atlantic – Qatar has been a very transformative one.”

THE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY OF THE MIDDLE EAST (AUM)
AUM: AN INTERACTIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT OFFERING KNOWLEDGE BEYOND EDUCATION
T
he American University of the Middle East (AUM) is a top ranked higher education institution and the biggest private University in Kuwait offering bachelor degree programmes in Business and Engineering as well as a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA). With its unconventional learning methods, and its interactive learning “Student-Centered” approach, AUM harmoniously combines theory with application in order to create a solid learning environment through various programmes, preparing its graduates for an active integration in multidisciplinary technical environments. Following the motto ‘Knowledge Beyond Education’, learning outside the classroom at AUM is as important as the learning activities happening inside of it, and that is the philosophy behind the design of its full-fledged university campus. AUM campus offers a set of buildings and outdoor landscaped areas that help enhance the students learning activities and contribute to their wellbeing. It mainly includes the AUM Library which is a modern and well-designed library that allows access to high profile online academic databases, as well as AUM Sports Center that comprises a fully equipped gym and offers indoor and outdoor playgrounds including a FIFA certified football field.
34_KUWAIT.indd 35
AUM Opera House and AUM Conference Center that are set to open in Fall 2017 are the campus’ newest additions, making the university experience more enriching and the AUM location an international hub for arts, conferences and various international events. A wide range of high-tech labs and facilities are also at the disposal of AUM students to enhance their practical skills and enable them to be more competitive in the job industry following their graduation. For example as a Nanotechnology Research Center that was developed with the support of Purdue University in USA, and is the first of its kind in the region. Through its offered majors, AUM effectively responds to the needs of the job industry. These majors at the College of Engineering and Technology: Industrial, Computer, Electrical, Mechanical and Chemical Engineering, Information System Technology, and Telecommunications and Networking Technology. The College of Business Administration (CBA) offers bachelor degrees in Accounting, Finance, Management Information System (MIS), Marketing and Human Resource Management. CBA also offers an MBA programme that enhances critical thinking, practical skills and expertise in the use of models and problem-solving tools. AUM campus is also home to “Tawteen Career Development and Recruitment Center” which is a branch of “Tawteen Recruitment & HR Solutions Company”, specialised in offering personal development skills, employment opportunities and career support mainly for Kuwaiti and GCC citizens.
