Confirman arresto de hija de ‘El Chapo’ REDACCIÓN UNA VOZ

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – Autoridades de la Agencia Antinarcóticos de los Estados Unidos (DEA, por sus siglas en inglés) confirmaron el arresto de la hija de ‘El Chapo’ cuando intentaba entrar a territorio estadounidense.

Alejandrina Giselle Guzmán Salazar, de 31 años de edad, fue arrestada el12 de octubre cuando intentaba ingresar a los Estados Unidos a pie, haciéndose pasar por alguien con una visa de no inmigrante en un pasaporte mexicano.

En un testimonio ante la corte el 15 de octubre, el agente Alex Vanegas, quien detuvo a la mujer, señaló que ella fue identificada con un sistema electrónico llamado Ident, el cual compara el iris y las huellas digitales de las personas con datos del Departamento de Estado, el FBI y el Departamento de Seguridad Nacional.

Durante esta audiencia Alejandrina fue acusada de fraude y uso inapropiado de visas. Una sentencia típica en un caso de estos lleva de dos a seis meses bajo custodia.

Se reportó que luego de ser detenida, la hija de ‘El Chapo’ fue interrogada por agentes por aproximadamente media hora. Durante esta entrevista la mujer ofreció información de que era la hija de Joaquín Guzmán Loera ‘El Chapo’, cabecilla del temido Cártel de Sinaloa, y de que tenía seis meses de embarazo.

La mujer también mencionó que ella se encontraba en camino a Los Ángeles, donde esperaba reunirse con el padre de su hijo, quien no fue identificado, y dar a luz a su bebé.

Sobre las razones para dar esta información de forma voluntaria, un funcionario dijo que ella probablemente pensó que las autoridades estarían renuentes a detener a alguien con necesidades médicas especiales.

La revisión de sus huellas dactilares dio como resultado que Alejandrina estaba en una base de datos del gobierno estadounidense sobre violadores de leyes de inmigración, pero no se dieron más detalles sobre este asunto.

Guzmán Salazar ha contratado a una abogada defensora para su caso, Guadalupe Valencia, y a Jan Ronis. Ambos abogados tienen antecedentes de representar a clientes acusados de tener nexos con el crimen organizado. La audiencia para determinar si se otorga fianza a Guzmán Salazar se realizará el 25 de octubre.

Valencia dijo que su cliente era un médico de la ciudad de Guadalajara y tenía siete meses de embarazo.

La madre de Guzmán Salazar es María Alejandrina Hernández Salazar. El pasado mes de junio el Departamento del Tesoro la describió como esposa de ‘El Chapo’, en documentos que imponen sanciones oficiales en su contra.

Mientras que autoridades estadounidenses tenían esperanzas de que este arresto llevara a información sobre

el posible paradero del narcotraficante, esto al parecer no ha sido así.

Un oficial familiarizado con el arresto de Guzmán Salazar dijo en condición de anonimato que este arresto ha sido un “callejón sin salida” para tratar de localizarlo.

El Cártel de Sinaloa controla el tráfico de drogas en casi toda la frontera de Estados Unidos y México, particularmente en los estados del occidente.

En el transcurso de los años las autoridades tanto en México como en Estados Unidos han dicho que Guzmán tiene hijos con varias mujeres, pero no está claro cuántas parejas tiene o ha tenido.

Otra mujer identificada como esposa de ‘El Chapo’, Griselda López Pérez, recibió sanciones financieras por parte del Departamento del Tesoro el mes pasado, por ser una persona que “juega un papel clave” en el Cártel de Sinaloa.

Mientras tanto, el año pasado se reportó que otra esposa de Guzmán, una ex reina de belleza identificada como Emma Coronel, había viajado al sur de California para el nacimiento de sus hijas gemelas, quienes nacieron en el hospital Antelope Valley Hospital en Lancaster, al norte de Los Ángeles. Coronel, que en ese tiempo tenía 22 años, es ciudadana estadounidense, por lo que puede viajar sin restricciones a los Estados Unidos y utilizar los servicios médicos de este país.

Arrest of El Chapo’s daughter confirmed UNA VOZ STAFF

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – DEA officers confirmed the arrest of the daughter of drug kingpin ‘El Chapo’ when she tried to enter the United States.

Alejandrina Giselle Guzman Salazar, 31, was arrested Oct. 12 when he tried to enter the United States on foot, pretending to be someone with a nonimmigrant visa on a Mexican passport.

During his testimony in court Oct. 15, Alex Vanegas, a border crossing agent who detained the woman, said she was identified using an electronic identification system known as Ident, which compares the iris and the fingerprints of people with databases from the Department of State, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security.

During this hearing Alejandrina was charged with fraud and misuse of visa documents. A common sentence for this type of violation is between two and six months in jail.

It was reported that after being detained, ‘El Chapo’s daughter was questioned for about half an hour by officers and that during that interrogation she volunteered information that she was the daughter of Joaquin Guzman Loera ‘El Chapo’, head of the Sinaloa Cartel, and also that she was six

months pregnant.

The woman also said she was headed to Los Angeles, where she was expected to meet with the baby’s father, whose identity was not revealed, and to give birth to her child.

About the reasons why she volunteered this information, an agent said that she probably thought officers would be hesitant to hold someone with special medical needs.

The fingerprint check also revealed that information on Guzman Salazar was found in a database for people who are in violation of immigration law, but no details were given about this issue.

Guzman Salazar has hired an attorney to handle her case, Guadalupe Valencia, and also Jan Ronis. Both attorneys have record of defending people linked to organized crime.

A bond hearing for Guzman Salazar case will take place Oct. 25.

Valencia said her client was a medical doctor from Guadalajara and was seven months pregnant.

Guzman Salazar’s mother has been identified as Maria Alejandrina Hernandez Salazar. Last June the Department of Treasury identified her as ‘El Chapo’s wife in documents that sanction her for her links to organized crime.

De acuerdo al diario El universal, la PGR arrestó a estos servidores públicos en la segunda fase de la llamada Operación Limpieza. Tres de los servidores públicos pertenecían a esta dependencia.

El director de la Subprocuraduría Especializada en Investigación de Delincuencia Organizada (SEIDO), José Cuitláhuac Salinas, dijo que esta investigación permitió detectar a los tres empleados del área a su cargo que son presuntos colaboradores del Cártel de Sinaloa, encabezado por Joaquín Guzmán “El Chapo”.

En una conferencia de prensa, Salinas dijo que entre los detenidos se encuentra un hombre identificado como Manuel Arroyo Hernández, quien hasta su arresto

se desempeñaba en el Cuerpo Técnico de Control de la SEIDO. De acuerdo a dos testigos protegidos, este hombre ofreció sus servicios al cartel, diciendo que era una persona muy cercana a la actual procuradora, Marisela Morales.

“Este tipo de funcionarios que se corrompen, pueden tener posibilidades de prestarle los servicios que requiere la delincuencia organizada, siempre van a hacer alusión a la cercanía con altos funcionarios públicos, porque esa es la cadena que tienen supuestamente para tener la información.

En el caso particular es evidente que esto es mentira”, dijo Salinas. Él rechazó tajantemente que Arroyo Hernández tuviera cualquier tipo de cercanía con la funcionaria.

No se dieron más detalles sobre el resto de los detenidos, ni tampoco información sobre las dependencias en las que laboraban el resto de los funcionarios detenidos. Solo se dijo que estas personas están sujetas a proceso por delincuencia organizada.

Another woman also identified as ‘El Chapo’s’ wife is Griselda Lopez Perez. She was financially sanctioned by the Department of Treasury last month for being “a key player” in the Sinaloa Cartel.

Meanwhile, last year it was reported that yet another one of ‘El Chapo’s’ wives, Emma Coronel, had traveled to southern California to give birth to her twin daughters, who were born at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, north of Los Angeles. Coronel, a former beauty queen who was 22 years old at the time, is a U.S. citizen and can travel without restrictions to the United States and use the medical services provided in this country.

“El Chapo” moles at the PGR arrested UNA VOZ STAFF

MEXICO CITY – The Federal Attorney General’s office (PGR) has arrested seven public servants for allegedly being part of a network of corrupted officials linked to the Sinaloa Cartel.

According to El Universal newspaper, PGR arrested these men during the second phase of the “Operation CleanUp”. Three of the public servants were employees of the PGR. The director of the Vice Office of Investigation of Organized Crime (SEIDO), Jose Cuitlahuac Salinas, said this investigation allowed them to detect the three employees under his command that are alleged collaborators of the Sinaloa Cartel, headed by Joaquin Guzman “El Chapo”.

In a press conference Salinas said the seven men have been arrested. Among them is a man identified as Manuel Arroyo Hernandez, who used to work in the

Technical Control Team of the SEIDO. According to two protected witnesses, this man offered his services to the cartel, saying he was close to the head of the PGR, Marisela Morales.

“This kind of public servants that get corrupted, can have the capabilities of providing services required by organized crime, always are going to make reference to their close relationship with high-ranking public officials, because that’s the chain they supposedly have to get the information.

In this particular case, it’s evident that’s a lie,” Salinas said.

He rejected the notion that Arroyo Hernandez had any close relationship with Morales.

More details on the other men detained were not available. Also, it was not disclosed the other public officers where the rest of the men worked. All that was said was that they are subject to a process for organized crime.

Two train crossings to be closed for repairs in Aurora UNA VOZ STAFF

AURORA – Drivers who travel through Indian Trail and Illinois Avenue will have to make alternate plans for next week, as railroad repairs will take place at two grade crossings near Route 25 (Broadway Avenue.)

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway will be replacing grade crossings near Broadway Avenue and Indian Trail and near Broadway Avenue and Illinois Avenue.

Indian Trail will be closed to traffic from Broadway to Lake Street (Route 31) at 7 a.m.

Oct. 20 and will reopen to traffic at 7 p.m.

Oct. 22. The city’s Streets Department has already placed an electronic sign notifying drivers that the detour route is Sullivan Road to the north or Illinois Avenue to the south.

Once this project is finished, Burlington Northern will turn its attention to Illinois Avenue, which will be closed from High Street to Broadway Avenue starting at 7 a.m.

Oct. 25 and reopening at 7 a.m. Oct. 27. In this case, the detour route will be south to Pierce Street.

Both projects are subject to change due to weather conditions.

Shots fired in Aurora playground UNA VOZ STAFF

AURORA – Aurora Police received a report of a shot fired in a school playground the afternoon of Oct. 16.

Police responded to a report of a shot fired at 3:32 p.m. at Rollins Elementary School, located at 950 Kane Street.

According to police spokesman Dan Ferrelli, a witness reported that a group of male teenagers were fighting on a playground, and then another male teenager approached

them and fired a shot in the air.

“We did have a report of him firing a shot in the air,” Ferrelli said. However, a canvass of the area didn’t produce any shell casings or any other evidence of a gun being fired.

The teenager, who was wearing a red sweatshirt and possibly red shorts, ran north across Fenton Street. The other teenagers ran northwest toward Smith Street. Police continue investigating the incident.

Hombre de Aurora acusado de abuso sexual de adolescentes en Montgomery REDACCIÓN UNA VOZ AURORA – Un hombre de Aurora fue arrestado esta semana en su casa y acusado de abuso sexual criminal de dos adolescentes en Montgomery.

Jacob P. Edgers, de 21 años de edad y residente de la cuadra 2000 de Dunhill Lane en Aurora, está acusado de siete cargos de abuso sexual criminal agravado y ocho cargos de felonía de pornografía infantil.

De acuerdo a la oficina del Alguacil del

Condado de Kendall, ellos recibieron un reporte de abuso sexual criminal de dos mujeres adolescentes, de 15 y 16 años de edad, el pasado mes de julio. El abuso, de acuerdo a las autoridades, ocurrió en la cuadra 0-99 de Curtmar Court en Montgomery.

Los detectives del Condado de Kendall realizaron una investigación y se emitió una orden de arresto para Edgers. El hombre fue arrestado en su casa y está en la cárcel del Condado de Kendall con una fianza de 200 mil dólares.

Aurora man charged with sexually abusing Montgomery teenagers UNA VOZ STAFF

AURORA – An Aurora man was arrested at his home this week and charged with criminal sexual abuse of two teenagers in Montgomery.

Jacob P. Edgers, 21, of the 200 block of Dunhill Lane in Aurora, faces seven charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and eight felony charges of child pornography.

According to the Kendall County Sheriff’s

office, they received a report of criminal sexual abuse of two teenagers, females ages 15 and 16, last July. The abuse, according to authorities, took place in the 0-99 block of Curtmar Court in Montgomery.

Kendall County detectives conducted an investigation and an arrest warrant was issued for Edgers. The man was arrested in his home and is currently at the Kendall County Jail with a $200,000 bond.

Cierran corte de Kane por alerta de sustancia peligrosa REDACCIÓN UNA VOZ ST. CHARLES – Aproximadamente 100 personas quedaron atrapadas dentro de la sucursal de la Corte del Condado de Kane y la oficina de la secretaría de la corte en Randall Road durante una alerta de sustancia peligrosa.

Dos cruces de ferrocarril serán cerrados en Aurora por reparaciones REDACCIÓN UNA VOZ

AURORA – Los automovilistas que circulen por Indian Trail e Illinois Avenue durante la próxima semana tendrán que hacer planes alternativos, ya que se realizarán reparaciones a dos cruces de ferrocarril ubicados en estas avenidas cerca de la Ruta 25 (Broadway Avenue).

La línea ferroviaria Burlington Northern Santa Fe realizará reparaciones en las vías ubicadas en cruceros cerca de las intersecciones de Broadway Avenue e Indian Trail, y de Broadway Avenue con Illinois Avenue.

La calle Indian Trail estará cerrada al tráfico de vehículos en el tramo entre Broadway y Lake Street (Ruta 31) a partir de las 7 a.m. del 20 de octubre y reabrirá a la circulación a las 7 p.m. del 22 de octubre. El Departamento de Calles de la ciudad ya ha colocado un letrero electrónico en el área notificando a los automovilistas que la ruta de desviación será Sullivan Road al norte e Illinois Avenue al sur.

Una vez que este proyecto esté terminado, Burlington Northern se concentrará en Illinois Avenue, que estará cerrada de High Street a Broadway Avenue a partir de las 7 a.m. del 25 de octubre y reabrirá a la circulación el 27 de octubre a las 7 a.m. En este caso, la ruta de desviación será al sur en Pierce Street.

Hacen disparos en parque de juegos en Aurora REDACCIÓN UNA VOZ AURORA – La policía de Aurora recibió un reporte de un disparo realizado en un área de juegos en una escuela de Aurora la tarde del 16 de octubre.

La policía respondió a un reporte de un disparo realizado a las 3:32 p.m. en la escuela primaria Rollins, ubicada en el 950 Kane Street.

De acuerdo al vocero de la policía Dan Ferrelli, un testigo reportó que un grupo de hombres adolescentes estaban peleando en el área de juegos infantiles, cuando otro hombre adolescente llegó al grupo de jóvenes e hizo

un disparo al aire.

“Tuvimos un reporte de él haciendo un disparo al aire”, dijo Ferrelli. Sin embargo, una revisión del área no produjo ningún casquillo de bala u otra evidencia de que se había disparado un arma.

El adolescente, que vestía una sudadera roja y tal vez usaba shorts rojos, corrió en dirección norte y cruzó la calle Fenton. Los otros adolescentes corrieron en dirección noreste hacia Smith Street. La policía continúa investigando este incidente.

Acusan a madre de poner en riesgo la vida de su hijo en Elgin REDACCIÓN UNA VOZ ELGIN – Una madre de Elgin enfrenta una acusación de felonía, después de que su hijo de 3 años de edad fuera encontrado vagando por la calle, llorando y buscando a su madre.

De acuerdo a la policía, Tanisha Farr, de 38 años de edad y residente de la cuadra 200 de Michigan Street, fue acusada de poner en riesgo la vida y la salud de un niño, después de que sus vecinos encontraran a su hijo en la calle, en el área de Raymond Street, Gifford Place y Michigan Street, alrededor de las 9:20 a.m. del 14 de octubre.

En su reporte, la policía indica que Farr declaró a los oficiales que ella había salido de

su casa por 10 minutos para comprar café y había dejado a otro adulto en la casa, pero que ellos habían estado dormidos cuando ella se había ido.

La policía dijo que la fiscalía había de esta acusación un crimen mayor o felonía porque Farr fue encontrada culpable de poner en riesgo a un niño en 2009 en el Condado de McHenry, y también había sido acusada del mismo delito en el Condado de McHenry en el año 2000 y en el Condado de Kane en el 2006.

La policía dijo que no había información si ella había sido encontrada culpable de los últimos dos incidentes.

La mujer tiene una fianza de 20 mil dólares.

Elgin mother charged with endangering the life of her child UNA VOZ STAFF

ELGIN – An Elgin mother faces a felony charge, after her 3-year-old son was found wandering in the street, crying and asking for his mother.

According to police, Tanisha Farr, 38, of the 200 block of Michigan Street, was charged with endangering the life and health of a child, after neighbors found her son on the street, in the area of Raymond Street, Gifford Place and Michigan Street, at about 9:20 a.m. Oct. 14.

In their report, police state that Farr told

officers that she had left her house for 10 minutes to buy coffee and that she had left another adult in the house, but they had been sleeping when she had left.

Police said prosecutors upgraded the charge to a felony because Farr had been found guilty in 2009 of endangering the life of a child in McHenry County. She also had been charged with the same crime in McHenry County in 2000 and in Kane County in 2006. Police said they don’t know if she was found guilty of those two charges.

The woman’s bail was set at $20,000.

Recortes a la “red de seguridad” de ancianos y discapacitados son una mala idea El candidato a senador estatal Peter Hurtado está corriendo la voz entre los votantes de Aurora y del nuevo distrito senatorial 42 que su contrincante, la actual senadora Linda Holmes, ha votado para cortar programas necesarios para los adultos mayores más vulnerables, los niños y discapacitados, mientras que regala grandes cantidades de dinero a grandes corporaciones.

“Esta primavera pasada, Linda Holmes votó para poner fin a la cobertura de salud de Medicaid para miles de residentes de Illinois, votó para terminar el programa de medicamentos recetados Illinois Cares para los adultos mayores y los discapacitados y también votó para deshacerse de algunos fondos educativos en los que nuestros niños confían para ayudarles a tener un buen inicio en la vida”, dijo Hurtado en una entrevista reciente.

Michael O’Donnell, el director de la Agencia para el Envejecimiento del Este Centro de Illinois fue citado hablando sobre este tema en un boletín reciente de la AARP, en donde dijo “algunos pueden irse de la farmacia porque no pueden cubrir el costo más alto. Otros pueden pagar el costo de la medicina y no comprar algo que necesitan, como comida”.

Hurtado dijo: “Votar para terminar este programa necesario fue irresponsable, y Linda Holmes debió de haberlo sabido. Al mismo tiempo, ella votó para dar millones de dólares a grandes compañías como Sears, el Chicago Mercantile Exchange y otros mediante grandes descuentos de impuestos – no para crear nuevos trabajos, pero solo porque ellos dijeron que se quedarían en Illinois”.

Sobre sus seis años en el puesto, Hurtado dijo que Linda Holmes ha hecho poco para ayudar a los negocios a crear trabajos para así sacar a las personas del desempleo y la asistencia social, y en vez de eso ha estado hablando sobre cómo ha ayudado a la Ciudad de Aurora a construir el nuevo Parque River’s Edge, que no va a hacer nada para mejorar el clima de trabajo en Aurora y solo ha resultado en unos cuantos trabajos temporales de construcción que terminarán en los próximos meses.

“Linda Holmes ha demostrado que conoce poco sobre cómo crear empleos”, dice Hurtado, “pero ella sabe cómo lastimar a esos negocios que están tratando de mantener sus cabezas sobre el agua. Ella votó por los aumentos a los impuestos que aumentaron los impuestos personales en un 67% y los impuestos a negocios en un 45% y todo lo que estos aumentos en los impuestos han hecho es hacer las cosas más difíciles para que las personas crezcan sus negocios y contraten más personas. En dólares reales, si usted gana $20,000 al año, esto significa que Linda Holmes votó para aumentar sus impuestos de $600 a $1000 cada año. Hurtado mantiene que necesitamos una revisión de principio a fin de cada dólar que el Estado de Illinois gasta cada año, para así eliminar el desperdicio y la corrupción y tener control de qué programas ayudan a la gente y cuáles simplemente ayudan a los ricos a enriquecerse más.

CUTTING THE SENIOR AND DISABLED “SAFETY NET” A BAD IDEA State Senate candidate Peter Hurtado is getting the word out to the voters of Aurora and the new 42nd Senate district that his opponent, incumbent Linda Holmes, has voted to cut necessary programs for the most vulnerable seniors, kids and the disabled, while giving away huge amounts of money to big corporations.

“This past spring, Linda Holmes voted to end Medicaid health coverage for thousands of Illinoisans, voted to end the Illinois Cares prescription program for the elderly and disabled, and even voted to get rid of some educational funding that our kids rely on to help them get a good start in life,” Hurtado said in a recent interview.

Michael O’Donnell, the Director of the East Central Illinois Agency on Aging, was even quoted on this issue in a recent AARP newsletter as saying “some may just walk away from the pharmacy because they can’t afford to pay the higher cost.

Others may pay the cost of the medication and then not buy something else they need, like food.”

Hurtado said, “Voting to end this necessary program was just irresponsible, and Linda Holmes should have known better. At the same time, she voted to give away millions of dollars to big companies like Sears, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and others through big tax breaks – not to create new jobs, but just because they said they’ll stay in Illinois.”

Over her six years in office, Hurtado said, Linda Holmes has done little to help businesses create jobs to get people off of unemployment and welfare, talking instead about how she helped the City of Aurora build the new River’s Edge Park, that will do nothing to improve Aurora’s job climate and has only resulted in a few temporary construction jobs that will be over in the next few months.

“Linda Holmes has shown that she knows little about how to create jobs,” Hurtado says, “but she does know how to hurt those businesses that are trying to keep their heads above water. She voted for the tax hikes that raised personal income taxes by 67% and business taxes by 45%, and all those tax increases have done is make it harder for people to grow their business and hire new people. In real dollars, if you make $20,000 a year, that means that Linda Holmes voted to raise your taxes from $600 to $1000 each year. When you add that with the cuts in the benefits that our senior citizens, disabled and young people need to maintain their quality of life it makes you wonder if Linda Holmes is representing Aurora or just the rich and powerful.”

Hurtado maintains that we need a top to bottom review of every dollar the State of Illinois spends each year in order to wipe out the waste and corruption and get control of which programs help people and which merely help the rich get richer.

“No one has taken a truly hard look at what we spend and where in years in this state,” Hurtado says, “and until we do we will go on wasting money and raising taxes to pay for programs that we can’t even guarantee do the job for which they were intended. That’s just not right – and that’s why I’m running to be a new voice for all of Aurora.”

53 years old, married and the father of three, Peter Hurtado owns a small manufacturing firm on Chicago’s south side. He is a practicing Catholic, and has been chosen by the Bishop to serve on the diocese’s Finance Council. Unlike his opponent, Linda Holmes, he also believes in the sanctity of life and maintains strong pro-life and pro-family positions. He is active in a variety of local social service efforts, and has been endorsed by the American Family Association.

Upon approval by the voters, the proposed amendment, which takes effect on January 9, 2013, adds a new section to the General Provisions Article of the Illinois Constitution. The new section would require a three-fifths majority vote of each chamber of the General Assembly, or the governing body of a unit of local government, school district, or pension or retirement system, in order to increase a benefit under any public pension or retirement system. At the general election to be held on November 6, 2012, you will be called upon to decide whether the proposed amendment should become part of the Illinois Constitution.

If you believe the Illinois Constitution should be amended to require a three-fifths majority vote in order to increase a benefit under any public pension or retirement system, you should vote “YES” on the question. If you believe the Illinois Constitution should not be amended to require a three-fifths majority vote in order to increase a benefit under any public pension or retirement system, you should vote “NO” on the question. Three-fifths of those voting on the question or a majority of those voting in the election must vote “YES” in order for the amendment to become effective on January 9, 2013.
