On our 125th anniversary
THE RED CLOAK FUND Changing lives through funded places at Queen Anne’s
We want to offer the opportunity of a Queen Anne’s education more widely. Widening access to talented and deserving girls who can benefit from our unique style of education is firmly in keeping with our values. Broadening our community benefits us all because these talented girls inspire those around them - both other girls and staff.
to keep these doors open for girls while they are rapidly closing across the maintained sector. Julia Harrington Headmistress
A Queen Anne’s education is becoming ever more valuable. Sport, music, drama, classics… we intend
So, we have launched a new scheme.
The Red Cloak Fund: a new programme of assisted places Red Cloak awards will transform the lives of talented girls whose families could not consider a Queen Anne’s education without fee support.
Candidates will sit an entrance test, for which no preparation is necessary. We will interview each girl.
We are particularly encouraging local candidates through our partnerships with state schools in Reading. We are keen to find individuals with significant talent or potential in one or more of our key areas of focus: academic, music, art, sport or drama, and the resilience to make the most of the opportunity.
Now we need help to make it grow.
Lasting impact While the Red Cloak Fund is a new scheme, many pupils over the years have benefited from very generous financial help. Here are just two stories. ... my journey here started with the offer of a scholarship
I am reading Medicine at Cambridge and am currently on a placement at Ipswich Hospital. My long-term aim is to practise in paediatrics. I can safely say that my journey here started with the offer of a Queen Anne’s scholarship.
Dedicated teachers, one-to-one lessons and coaching when I needed it; endless opportunities to perform musically; friendships; the teamwork and fun of dance… I gained immeasurably from my time at the school. I am so pleased that Queen Anne’s is planning to offer greater numbers of girls the amazing opportunities that I received. Ellie Walder, 2013
From the outset, I knew I would be looked after at Queen Anne’s. My teachers challenged and encouraged me throughout my seven formative years. I made the most of wonderful opportunities afforded to me in art and music, such as exhibiting in London and singing in Westminster Abbey.
.... forever grateful for the scholarship which made it all possible
A donor’s perspective Queen Anne’s did wonders for my confidence, and I quickly found myself transforming from the timid eleven-year-old into a School Prefect in my final year of school. Now I am reading English, Spanish, and Italian at Durham University. I am considering a career in either law or journalism. I believe the Red Cloak Fund is a brilliant scheme. I love the idea that girls, mostly from the local area, will be able to receive the same transformational education that I received and for which I will be forever grateful. Charlotte Way, 2016
I had such a good education with small classes and kind, patient teachers. The music appreciation lessons and choir have stayed with me and given me a lifelong love of music and singing. I also enjoyed sports, which were strongly encouraged with “Early Field” and “Sergeants”. I was on the 1st team for lacrosse, tennis and cricket. Deportment and manners were important and there was an excellent, daily grounding in the Christian faith.
I appreciate everything that I gained from my time at Queen Anne’s. This is why I have been glad to be able to share some of the funds I still have in the UK to support the bursary fund, to help give the experience of a Queen Anne’s education to girls who might not otherwise be able to come to the school. Ambassadors for the scheme: three views
‘The Red Cloak Fund encapsulates all that is Queen Anne’s and I think it is brilliant to open the school to more girls who will benefit from all it has to offer.’
‘This is for girls who would not dream of Queen Anne’s without really generous help. It is separate from the school’s bursary programme. This is important to me.’
‘I am pleased that Queen Anne’s is making special efforts to provide places for deserving girls in order to give them a really good all-round education for the modern world.’
