That’s Entertainment It remains one of the most popular events on the Coast FM calendar. It taxes the brain, digs into nostalgia, some of them are hard, some of them are easy That’s right it’s the best night in town, Coast’s Annual That’s Entertainment – the quiz night that beats all quiz nights.
Coast FM presenters prepare the questions and it’s not all rock and roll. The quiz night covers the spectrum of entertainment.
Too easy? Who played the top cop in the original Hawaii Five O? Who played his sidekick?
Of course, there’s rock history but also there will be questions on stage productions, radio and TV and of course, the movies.
The Coast Quiz night starts at 7pm.
The Coast brain twister and teaser will be held on Saturday, June 23 at the Marion RSL
Who said he “loves the smell of napalm in the morning”? Who was all at sea and said “you need a bigger boat”?
Put it in your diary now and make up a group for the night, or come on your own and get teamed up.
Who was the youngest Beatle and name a hard rocker found dead in his swimming pool.
There will be complimentary tea and coffee. Full Bar Facilities….. B.Y.O. supper and nibbles. And don’t forget to book by ringing the Coast FM office on 8371 5887. The cost is members and partners, $5, non-members $10
Smoky Takes a Bride Monday country music presenter Trevor ‘Smoky’ Dawson is a cool relaxed bloke on air. So what’s he like at his own wedding? A relaxed cool bloke, of course! And why wouldn’t he be? Smoky married his sweetheart Carol Ashley in April at a place he loves, surrounded by people he loves. The place was the beautiful grounds of Glandore community Centre, where the country music man’s favourite radio station is situated—and Coast FM.
Rock and Sizzle At Our Open Day Top bands, great stalls, best barbecue and great people – the place is Glandore Community Centre and the event is the Coast FM’s 2012 Open Day. The date for the fabulous fundraiser is Sunday, October 28, and this year entertainment will be laid on by some of Adelaide’s top bands – Lucky Seven, Mac 7 Brown, East Texas and Saturday’s Army. Elvis may make an appearance again!
The day literally sizzles with Coast’s famous sausage cook-up and a multitude of stalls. Also just the place to get an early Christmas present. If you want to set up a stall this year or assist with the Open Day contact Shiona at the Coast FM office.

Talking Technical With Our New Team It takes people to keep Coast FM buzzing 24/7. And none are more important than those behind the scenes. The technical equipment that keeps the music playing and presenters talking at Coast is worth tens of thousands of dollars – from the broadcast mast at O’Halloran Hill to the control consoles at Glandore and even down to one of the many computers in the office. And last week Board Chairman Les Sobieraj announced a new “beefed up” Technical Committee to oversee the nuts and bolts of Coast FM

Bits ’n Pieces It’s been full throttle for Coast FM staff – and many of its listeners – since January. And it will full steam ahead through to summer with more big events planned. Coast FM’s celebration of Oz Music On Oz Day on January 26 was a huge success. Organised by past chairperson Lynne Cavanagh, music lovers rolled up for our own day on the green at Glandore Community Centre to celebrate Oz music. Many thanks to the Weekend Warriors who supplied the great bands…… It was a great family day with Australian fancy dress, food and music
Coast was also out and about at WOMADELAIDE during March, with on-air interviews coordinated by Dianna Taylor. Monday Talk’s Ralph Gourlay, Tuesday Talk’s Steve McNally, Mike Parkes from Kicking Country, Tony Clarke of Soul Power and Di Taylor interviewed WOMADELAIDE artists. And when it came to the Fringe, Coast was again in the thick of it with Barrie Barkla co-ordinating interviews with Fringe events artist.
At The Rock And Roll Rendezvous Classic Coast had a double whammy We had a R and R and R Breakfast at the Torrens Parade Ground, where Vets On Air cooked up the mother of all breakfasts for drivers – many thanks to the Vietnam Veterans’ Federation and their people with the mobile barbecue. At Birdwood Phil Davis and his team flew the flag for Coast – and made sure the Coast raffle winner Sharon Gibbs got to meet Little Patti.
We plan to broadcast from the Royal Adelaide Show this September. Stay tuned for details. Community Radio boasts 120,000 listeners per month. Get your word out with sponsorship and tell those listeners about your business. Contact Chris “Crash” Carpenter at Coast FM during office hours and make yourself heard.

Coast People Adelaide born and bred, hospital worker, hobby farmer and former line dance teacher Joy Blight admits she came to Coast FM 11 years ago with no intention of going on air. Joy, our Thursday breakfast presenter, was told to listen in to Coast FM radio by her brother-in-law “because it was my kind of music.” “And it was, I loved it’ said Joy. “Then I heard they needed volunteers for the office and I thought ‘I can do that’,” Joy had been working at Queen Elizabeth Hospital as an office supervisor, knew how to handle people and had high organisational skills. “Those skills did help during organising the Coast Open Days which early on were a two-day event.” But it took some convincing to believe she could become a presenter. “I had been teaching line dancing for 10 years and loved country music,” Joy recalled. “I eventually did a training course, applied for and got the 2pm-4pm time slot and did the country show. “I realised I liked all music so moved to the breakfast slot on Thursdays. “I like all music and my style now is from the 50s to the 80s – and back again!” Joy has four children – one died at the age of 27 in a River Murray accident – at one stage hobby farmed at One Tree Hill and now lives at Fulham.
Vale Coast FM radio lost one of its most-loved and respected volunteers following the passing of Colin Gower in March. Colin, 72, lost his battle with a long illness but was active on-air as a presenter almost up until his death. “He loved community radio,” recalled brother Barry Gower, also a long-time volunteer at Coast. Colin had been with Coast FM nearly 12 years, but also volunteered on other community radio stations. The former Tax Department employee was active also with the SA Railway Museum. He is survived by his wife Bev, three children and four grandchildren.
Keep these in your diary! We are still setting dates and organising some, others are locked and loaded for a great 2012 on the Coast FM social calendar. Make sure you put them on your calendar – support your community radio station, enjoy fun times with like-minded people, even win prizes. And remember if there is a particular event you would like us to arrange, send your info to Coast FM or email us on info@coastfm.com.au This is what we’ve got for you so far: Coast FM Annual Quiz Night – Saturday, June 23 is our usual night of fun and mayhem not to be missed. Coast FM Open Day – Set for October 28th and our biggest fun in the sun event of the year for the whole family. At Glandore Community Centre. Coast FM A.G.M. - Sunday September 16th
