Universities Business Challenge Awards The Universities Business Challenge started in the United Kingdom over 20 years ago and is now the longest established and most recognised simulation-based competitive challenge for students, designed to develop employability, enterprise & entrepreneurship skills. At UH, each year we encourage students to enter the prestigious Universities Business Challenge (UBC) Competition. This allows participating students to develop and showcase their leadership, analytical and problemsolving skills by working with peers to make strategic business decisions in a simulated workplace experience. We were delighted to have two teams enter the final in Liverpool this year and achieve a Top 10 placing in the UK, especially considering the high number of teams that started; 170 teams at undergradaute and 120 at postgraduate. Our postgraduate team were also awarded the prize for best presentation in the final. This has not only made these participating students more employable but also inspired their enterprising spirit.

The Four Seasons Hotel in Hampshire We are delighted to support one of the worlds’ best known hotel chains with Postgraduate resource and talent. The Four Seasons Hotel in Hampshire recruited five PG placement students this year from our prestigious MSc International Tourism and Event Management programme. Boram Lee (Director of Learning and Talent at the Hotel) said “What stood out from the interns of UOH was great learning attitude and passion for hospitality. The line level roles that interns have taken on board may have been challenging to start with but each student has demonstrated positive mindset consistently, which has hugely contributed to our employee and guests experience!” The students have worked in a variety of professional roles across the hotel, supporting the vital Food & Beverage and Housekeeping operations. Within their development roles, they support delivery and management of large logistical events, such as weddings, and gain experience and real-life practice in event management projects. Learning new skills during their placement year, such as hands-on training of new members of staff, equips the students with insights into the challenges in the hospitality business. You will have read about some of our students experience in previous parts of the brochure. However, we had an additional two students work for the Four Seasons this academic year. They were:
45
Zeel Ajay Patel who worked as a Pastry Commi Chef.
Omkar Rohidas Chimbaikar who worked as a Housekeeping Intern.
Feedback from our students on their placement experience was overwhelmingly positive. They spoke of developing their corporate personalities via guest interaction and even receiving promotions during their short time there! Thank you to The Four Seasons, for the fantastic support to our students. We look forward to our continuing partnership and supporting them with new students in the next academic year.
