Bob Stuart Memorial Scholarship

Description MoSAC and MAMA jointly award a scholarship annually to applicants who are enrolled in an aviation-related curriculum at a U.S. college or university. Christian was a successful, young flight instructor who always looked to share his passion for aviation in Alaska’s community. Christian was a natural teacher with a constant focus on ‘safety first.” Christian passed away in 2016, at age 20, when the aircraft he was a passenger in was brought down by a bird strike. Christian’s passion and aviation spirit will live on through the Alaska Airmen’s Association by awarding a $2,500 scholarship in Christian’s honor, continuing to help Alaska residents pursue their dream of becoming a professional pilot.

The Colorado Agricultural Aviation Association Scholarship will be awarded annually. Any persons submitting a resume application to the Colorado Agricultural Aviation Association will be eligible for this award. Candidates should demonstrate a genuine interest in agricultural areas such as agronomy, research, or ag law that promotes or supports the Agricultural Aviation Industry. Non-traditional students are also encouraged to apply. Although not required, letters of recommendation will be accepted along with the resume application.

This scholarship is open to all Alaska residents who are in pursuit of their private pilot license and are planning to fly in Alaska. This includes building hours in the cockpit toward their private pilot license. Proof of ground school participation via a letter from an instructor or course transcripts and CFI letters of recommendation will be required.

Nancy Stratford Student Pilot Flight Training Scholarship

Description Nancy Miller Livingston Stratford flew 50 different aircraft in World War II and went on to accumulate some 8,500 hours in 103 different types. At age 23, she was one of the first American women to become a ferry pilot for the British Air Transport Auxiliary. After WWII, Nancy earned her seaplane and helicopter wings, and owned Livingston Helicopters in Alaska. She was the second licensed woman commercial helicopter pilot in the United States. Scholarship Criteria Applicant must be female; reside in San Diego County; have a current student medical for PPL award; and a passing score on written test OR completed a solo flight. Funds may be used to help fund Private Pilot training. There is a 90-day limit to apply funds towards training.

The scholarship is awarded annually for $1,000 or the amount requested, whichever is less. Examples are flight review, emergency maneuver training, ground school, components of student pilot training, floatplane rating, instrument proficiency check, or tailwheel instruction. Scholarship monies can be applied toward aviation expenses greater than $1,000, such as an additional rating or course of study, if the applicant clearly states there are sufficient funds from other sources to complete her training.
