One letter of recommendation written by a teacher, supervisor, counselor, or the director of an organization in which you participate. It may not be written by a family member or friend. The most recent copy of an official transcript. Your cumulative GPA must fall between 2.5 and 4.0. A copy of your parent’s/guardian’s DD214 or proof of military service such as a front and back copy of your military ID card. Acceptance or enrollment into an accredited college/university.

Scholarship Criteria Applicant must include an essay, not more than 600 words describing how this scholarship and a private pilot’s license will assist in achieving their career or educational goals. If the applicant is a current or recent high school, college, or university student, an unofficial transcript is required. Per FAA requirements, the student must be 16 years old to fly solo, and 17 years old to obtain a private pilot certificate. There is no upper age limit. Applicant must be a current AFA member.
