Description Nancy Miller Livingston Stratford flew 50 different aircraft in World War II and went on to accumulate some 8,500 hours in 103 different types. At 23, she was one of the first American women to become a ferry pilot for the British Air Transport Auxiliary. After WWii, Nancy earned her seaplane and helicopter wings, and owned Livingston Helicopters in Alaska. She is the second licensed woman commercial helicopter pilot in the USA and fourth in the world. Her memoir, “Contact! Britain: A woman ferry pilot’s story during WWII in England!” published in 2011. This year she celebrated her 99th birthday and the San Diego 99s honor her with this scholarship. Scholarship Criteria Applicant must: Be a female; Reside in San Diego County; Have a current student medical for PPL award; and A passing score on written test OR completed a solo flight.
