PROJECT STATEMENT

A BC D E F GH I J
The proposed project is the extra-large parking lot of the El Con mall, surrounded by historical neighborhoods. Majority of the site is impervious surface, which collects a large amount of water during the monsoon season and relieves it all to the adjacent neighborhood, known as Christmas wash watershed (a street-based wash system). The Christmas wash drains for several miles and creates flooding problems in many areas. The revitalization of the parking lot will mainly address the flooding problem, by reducing the amount of storm water that goes to the Christmas wash. It also will transform the unused parking lot into attractive space for the neighbors and mall visitors by creating a desirable space for the surrounding community and provide of green connection path to the Reid park. Project goals: - Capture the retain the storm water on the parking lot, through the passive water harvesting methods; - Plant native trees and shrubs to create a park zone and beatify the site and create a transition zone between the residential neighborhood and commercial shopping center; - Reduce the erosion of the soils and increase the moisture in it; - Enhance the walk ability and bike ability of the urban area;
