Sport and Exercise Science Consultancy Unit

The Golf Science Development Programme The Golf Science Development Programme (GSDP) has been designed to equip your squad with the tools needed to train like tour pros and maximise their potential. Using sport science theory and application, they will experience elite level support and gain new skills. We will show them how to transfer these skills onto the course for improved performance. We currently offer three packages to help improve their game. Birdie Our introductory package offers a squad of golfers the opportunity to gain an insight into elite player support. The modern golf athlete not only has a swing coach, but also a team of other professionals to help extract the full potential of their golfer. We will give your squad an insight into how a balanced approach to golf can help improve performance.

Eagle and Albatross These high-end packages are two-day visits aimed at the squad who are looking for industry-leading facilities and a training-camp environment. The Eagle and Albatross packages incorporate all the benefits of the “Birdie” with further sports science intervention and the opportunity to play two rounds of golf. The Albatross package, our flagship service, gives your squad the opportunity to play 18 holes at the East Sussex National.

The Courses The Royal Eastbourne Golf Club Long-term partners of the GSDP, the 100-year old, REGC is an attractive combination of parkland and downland with outstanding views across Eastbourne and eighteen different, but challenging holes. The course offers a combination of open fairways and narrow doglegs, challenging bunkers, testing putts and requires some accurate tee shots. East Sussex National The premium offering on the GSDP, The East Course is a 7,081 yard stadium layout, designed for tournament play. It has been the setting for many important tournaments – notably the European Championship on two occasions.

The Golf Science Development Programme Content Movement Screening The movement assessment can highlight areas of strength, weakness or imbalance, which can lead to injury. These physical limitations will ultimately influence your golf swing. Improving these limitations will allow for more repeatable and consistent swings. Strength and conditioning These sessions will give corrective exercises for errors highlighted in the movement screening. Correct physical conditioning will help build a more powerful, athletic golfer. Conditioning the key muscle groups will also limit the likelihood of injury, allowing golfers to practice for longer, and stay strong during the latter stages of important rounds. Biomechanics Biomechanics is a scientific discipline that applies mechanical principles to understand movement. For golf, this understanding could help produce more consistent swings, increased distance, or reduced injury risk. We use a golf simulator as well as camera analysis to give information on swing path, club face angle, shot distance and much more. Psychology Teaching the golfer to control their controllables. When you are playing sport there are a lot of things that can’t be controlled. Examples may be the conditions, opponents, even the performance of teammates (team events). The GSDP will give provide skills and tips on how to improve this area of the game.
