BSc (Hons) Counselling

“When you graduate you will have done the job. You will have worked in services that have a network of placements.” Dr Ioannis Fronimos, Course Leader

The course is built on four pillars: theory, practice, research and personal development.

Over the three years of attending the course, you will be introduced to a wide range of theory and skills through lectures, seminars, practicums, independent study and group-work activities. This mode of study equips you in terms of personal growth and adjusting your working style to the needs of a wide range of client groups.

During the first year you will learn about the foundations of counselling theory and skills. During the second and third years, you will undertake work-based and clinical placements which will give you the chance to apply your knowledge in the real world. During the third year you will carry out and write up a counselling research project based on your interests.

You will cover the core and popular models of person-centred counselling, psychodynamic counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy and existential counselling. The characteristic feature of this course is the way we integrate these main approaches.

“I’ve always been fascinated by people and I’ve always wanted to help people so the BSc Counselling degree at UEL, accredited by BACP, was an obvious choice for me.

The facilities and equipment at UEL are great. We have triad labs with a TV recorder so you can watch yourself afterwards. When I’ve finished I want to be a counsellor.” Jade Attenborough BSc (Hons) Counselling undergraduate
