Welcome to the University of East London’s School of Social Sciences. A degree in social sciences has never been more relevant than today and we believe there is no better place to study than at UEL. Located in the heart of multicultural east London – a site of huge cultural and economic transformation – we are well placed to lead the discussion on many of today’s most exciting and urgent topics. Our Economics, Politics and Policy undergraduate degree course is rigorous and rewarding. Our graduates leave with the analytical, research, writing, data interpretation, persuasive speaking and organisational skills that make them standout in today’s competitive job market. Our academic staff know and care about students as individuals, and are committed to providing a rich and experimental learning experience. If you want to understand the political and economic challenges facing the world today, our new Economics, Politics and Policy degree is for you. We’ll teach you how policymakers respond to topical issues like economic inequality, climate change and immigration.
You’ll learn to critically assess the consequences of political decisions, by understanding who gains and loses from them, and the feasibility of alternative courses of action.

Economics, Politics and Policy BA (Hons)
While studying Economics, Politics and Policy you’ll learn to understand the major political and economic challenges facing the world today. We’ll teach you how globalisation and technological change are affecting people’s lives, and how policymakers are responding. We’ll examine a broad range of contemporary issues such as economic inequality, political extremism, and environmental degradation, and teach you to critically assess how governments, the European Union, and organisations like the World Bank shape and react to such issues.

You’ll learn about how responsive governments really are to voters, and the influence that the media and special interest groups have on politics. We’ll teach you how past political decisions constrain government policy, and when, why and how governments intervene in free markets.

If you don’t meet the entry requirements for the BA, you have the option of taking an ‘extended’ version. You’ll begin with a foundation year, which will prepare you for the BA course, giving you the academic and personal skills you need for successful degree-level study. This extended course is perfect if you want a degree in Economics, Politics and Policy, but don’t meet the standard entry requirements.

How to apply
This course offers you a wide range of career progression routes following graduation.
All applications for full-time undergraduate courses starting in September are made Via the Universities and Colleges Admissions System (UCAS). You’ll develop the knowledge and skills you need to pursue a career in the civil service or in local government, in political think tanks, pressure groups and charities. Our degree will prepare you for careers in journalism, policy advocacy and political risk analysis, as well as in business consultancy, project management, and communications. Our graduates are also well equipped to continue onto postgraduate study in the subject areas of Politics, Economics and Policy. This degree course could be your first step towards a rewarding career in policy research or academia. If you choose to build up expertise in a particular policy area or region of the world through further study, our EPP degree can open doors to sought after careers in NGOs and international organisations like Oxfam or the United Nations.
