Future Scientists When: Who:
Thursday 30th June – Friday 1 st July 2016 Year 12 students - studying science related BTEC or A levels and interested in a career in science
Where: Option 1: Pharmacology – UEL Stratford Campus Option 2: Engineering – UEL Docklands Campus What: Two day laboratory based challenge – gaining key skills in research and problem solving, investigative and scientific data analysis and laboratory experience Option 1: Discovering the next blockbuster drug for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. As researchers in a R&D laboratory, your task is to screen compounds that can be developed further for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease Option 2: G reen roofs for a sustainable and resilient built environment. As a civil engineer, your task is to investigate the design of sustainable green roofs and their efficacy in an urban environment
Future Creatives When: Wednesday 6th, Thursday 7th and Friday 8th July 2016 Who:
Year 12 students studying BTEC or A levels in creative subjects or interested in a career in the creative industries
Where: UEL Docklands Campus What: Three days of intensive studio work on an industry set brief with four pathways to choose from – gaining skills in how to research, develop and pitch a creative idea • • • •
Advertising – generate ideas to meet the brief and develop an ad campaign Printed Design – design repeatable patterns to meet the brief and print onto textiles using state of the art digital printers 3D Design – create a prototype product or concept that meets the brief using the laser cutter Animation – create and direct a short animation to meet the brief in the studios

Future Careers in Sport When: Wednesday 13th, Thursday 14th and Friday 15th July 2016 Who:
Year 12 students studying BTEC or A levels in Human Biology, PE, Psychology, Sports Sciences, or with an interest in a career in the sport world
Where: UEL Docklands Campus What: Three days of workshops using state of the art facilities in Sports Dock– gaining key skills in team work, resilience, time management, communication and much more DAY 1 Understanding the science behind sport - workshops on athlete conditioning, sports therapy and nutrition with key note speakers from the sector to inspire you DAY 2 Inclusivity in sport – challenge your understanding of equality in the sporting world DAY 3 Personal goals - setting and achieving sporting targets as a team member and as an individual, building resilience and confidence
Future Business Leaders When: Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th July 2016 Who:
Year 12 students studying BTEC or A levels in business, economics, statistics or maths with an interest in a future career in the corporate world
Where: UEL University Square Stratford What: A two day intensive experience of masterclasses and workshops that will expand your horizons on what the corporate world would hold for you – gaining skills in team work, managing risk and strategy Over the two days your business teams will be managing a £3m (virtual money) budget on the Bloomberg terminals to buy and sell shares through the business management software. Teams will also be working on industry-led workshops on managing risk

Who is eligible? Future Summer Schools will give priority to students with little or no family history of progression to university, or who come from other groups that are under-represented in higher education. We welcome applications from students in schools and colleges in the boroughs of: Barking & Dagenham, Hackney, Haringey, Havering, Islington, Lambeth, Lewisham, Newham, Redbridge, Southwark, Thurrock, Tower Hamlets or Waltham Forest (if you are interested in a place but do not study in one of these boroughs, please still contact us).
