Your course

From the very start of this course, you’ll get the chance to develop the vital skills, knowledge, values and confidence you need to care for children, young people and their families whatever their circumstances, including: those with acute illness, long-term conditions or those who need help to maintain their health. You’ll learn and develop both practical and theoretical skills in order to achieve your full potential as a children’s nurse and meet the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s (NMC) standards. You’ll get the chance to develop your practical skills in a safe environment in our fully-equipped simulated children’s ward using our patient simulators. After successfully completing the course you’ll be eligible to apply to register with the NMC and work as a Registered Nurse for Children.

Placements

You’ll have the opportunity to put what you’ve learnt into practice through placements in a variety of healthcare environments. These include National Health Service (NHS) Trusts, charities, hospices, schools and community settings.

Your future

Our graduates have gone on to pursue careers within local and national hospitals.** Children’s nurses also work in a range of services, including neonatal and paediatric intensive care, children’s community nursing teams and in regional children’s specialist centres. There is also an extensive range of further professional development opportunities available, which may lead to possible careers as a health visitor or school nurse, as well as nurse specialist roles.
