Your course

Occupational therapists work collaboratively with people to help them engage in those activities (occupations) which they need or want to do, enabling them to lead fulfilling and healthy lives. Occupations are practical, meaningful and purposeful activities that allow people to develop a sense of identity for example self-care, work or leisure tasks. Working with people of all ages in different situations, you’ll assess their needs and collaboratively develop interventions facilitating them to achieve their potential and enjoy maximum quality of life. You’ll learn how to integrate underlying theory and principles of occupational therapy and apply what you learn to different areas of practice. We’ve also got a purpose-built skills lab where you’ll be taught by research active and passionate academics who have a range of occupational therapy experience. Occupational therapists work interprofessionally with other healthcare professionals, therefore you’ll study alongside students from other healthcare professions including midwives, nurses, physiotherapists, podiatrists, operating department practitioners and speech and language therapists.

Placements

You’ll have the opportunity to develop an in-depth understanding of occupational therapy through a wide range of placements each year in health, social and third sector care settings within the West Yorkshire region.

Your future

Our graduates have gone on to work as occupational therapists in the National Health Service (NHS) and private healthcare services.*** Additionally, you may diversify into related areas of work including healthcare management, the educational sector or research.

Entry requirements:

BBB* inc. a Biological Science, Psychology or double Health and Social Care**/DDM in Health and Social Care or Applied Science/ 120*/Merit at T Level in Health or Healthcare Science/Access to HE Diploma with 45 Level 3 credits, 30 at Distinction and 15 at Merit

Additional criteria:

GCSE English Language and Maths at grade 4/C or above, or equivalent Understanding of the occupational therapy profession Interview and references DBS and occupational health check
