Your course The music industry is undergoing rapid change and this course provides the skills you need to succeed in this digital environment: from writing reviews to making compelling videos, radio shows and podcasts as well as learning how to produce and disseminate content across social media platforms. Our lecturers and guest speakers include writers and broadcasters currently working in the national media.

Our academic staff produce world-leading research into music and fan cultures, and they will help you understand the passions that drive the music industry, and why Music, and thinking and writing about music, is so central to our cultures and our lives. In the age of Spotify, file sharing, ever larger music festivals and YouTube-based music careers, our programme has also strong emphasis on understanding the changing business models of the music industry and of music journalism, teaching digital skills you need to carry out research of your own.

Your future

Our Music Journalism degree has been the pathway to careers at radio stations, magazines and at marketing and social media agencies. Other graduates have used their skills to begin careers in music promotion, podcasting and events management.
