Film Studies and History BA(Hons

Your course Whether the emphasis is on silent, classical or more contemporary cinema, studying film always involves trying to make sense of continuity and change – complex processes that take place at the level of society, art, culture, technology and economics. The same is true of history, which teaches us about the connections, people, institutions and events that led to the society we now live in.

Our combined Film Studies and History degree gives you the opportunity to study two different but highly complementary subjects. We will encourage you to think critically about the ways in which our past and present have been narrated, represented and (re) constructed over the centuries. On our course you will also try your hand at researching and producing these stories yourself. You will apply your understanding of how our past shapes the present, of the role of film in creating the past, and the way our past shapes film today.
