Our Students’ Union

To put it simply, Huddersfield Students’ Union exists to make your student life better.

Whether you’re wanting to play sport, volunteer or campaign on something that matters to you, we are the Huddersfield Students’ Union team and we’re here all year long to help you make new friends and settle in at the University of Huddersfield. We work closely with the University but we’re totally independent.

Get involved

Life’s all about people. Come along to the Students’ Union and you’ll be able to connect with friends from a wide range of backgrounds and countries, studying all kinds of subjects. When you join the Huddersfield community, you’ll automatically be part of your academic society where you can meet people who study your course, develop new skills and try new things. Everyone is passionate about something, even if you’ve not quite discovered what that is yet. With around 100 sports clubs, societies and academic societies to choose from, including American Football, Cricket, Enterprise and Latin Dance Society, there really is something for everyone!

Free advice and support

University life can sometimes come with challenges that are difficult to face by yourself. Our Advice Centre offers free, impartial and confidential advice on matters that can affect any student. Whether it’s general welfare, finances, academic issues or housing information, our team of experienced and friendly advisers handle your concerns professionally. We also offer services such as a free-to-use phone and more.

Mark your calendars

Throughout the year, the Students’ Union puts on lots of events for you to come to. Be sure to look out for some of our popular events such as Bonfire Night, our Christmas Fair, or our annual Sports programme, Varsity. Our ‘Give It a Go’ programme gives you an opportunity to take part in (often free) events, trips and sessions to help you get the most out of your time at Huddersfield. In the past we’ve taken our students to Paris, Amsterdam and Dublin and hosted amazing days out at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Chester Zoo and the Harry Potter tour at the Warner Bros. Studio.
