ACTIVATE YOUR LINKBLUE ACCOUNT Your linkblue account is a critical part of being a UK student. Your linkblue ID and password are your universal credentials to everything online. Use them to confirm your attendance; utilize the class registration, billing and payment system; apply for Campus Housing; access UK systems like myUK, Canvas and iTunesU; and a lot more. Follow these steps to get started.
To activate, you will need the following information from your admission letter: UK ID Number - This number is eight digits in length. Student Temporary Passcode - This code is six characters (alphanumeric). Next, go to newstudent.uky.edu. For step-by-step directions through the activation wizard, go to seeblue.com/activate. For additional help, call 859-218-4357. Once logged in to the UK Account Manager an activation wizard will provide step-by-step information guiding you through the process. You will receive a notification when the entire account manager setup has been completed. Please note that the “Finish” button must be checked before you can use your account. If at any time this process is interrupted or you quit before completing all steps and clicking “Finish,” changes will be lost and you will have to start again. Click “Next” to continue. Create a new linkblue password. Click “What is the linkblue password policy?” for the requirements for a viable and secure password.
2
After creating a new linkblue password, create a set of Self-Reset Questions. These questions are used to reset a forgotten password or if a password expires. Examples of good and bad security questions and tips can be viewed by clicking on “How do I make good password self-reset questions.” The answers you provide for these security questions are NOT case sensitive.
Set Up Two-Factor Login Two-factor login provides you with an additional method of verifying your identity to log in or to complete a transaction within myUK. It adds a second layer of security by requiring you to verify your identity via phone or other mobile devices. It requires two things: your phone or mobile device and your account password. Everyone is encouraged to activate two-factor login. To enroll, you will need to register a trusted phone or mobile device (one that you personally use and is not shared with others) by following the instructions at uky.edu/ittakes2. The next time you log in to myUK, click the login button and enter your linkblue credentials as usual. You will then be presented with a choice to either enter a code from the Duo app found on your device or receive a push notification to confirm that it is you. There is also an option to remember a device for 30 days at log in. Two-factor login will be required for all students beginning in spring 2019.
3
YOU’VE GOT MAIL
ACTIVATE YOUR UNIVERSITY EMAIL ACCOUNT After you set up your linkblue account, you should activate your university email. First, determine your official UK email address. An email address will be provided, but you have the option to alter the email address if you prefer. Once entered, click “Next.” Select your preferred email service by clicking its icon. You may choose to forward your UK email to your existing personal email (Gmail, Yahoo, etc.). The next screen provides an account settings overview of your profile. Here you can select changes to any areas previously covered in the setup process. Once satisfied with the account settings, click “Finish” and wait for the information to process. Do not refresh the page or you will have to begin the entire Account Manager setup again. Once processed, the screen informs you of your account information again. The Account Manager setup process is complete. Check Your Email Regularly! Your UK email account is the University’s official communication channel with you. Important dates, deadlines, confirmation information and more will be communicated via your UK email. If you do not think you’ll check this account, follow the instructions to forward it to your personal email.

IT’S ALL HERE
LIVING ON CAMPUS Some of the best memories of college come from living on campus. Friends are made every day in a residence hall, on a walk to class or over a delicious meal. From the time you step onto campus until the time you walk across the stage to graduate, the heart of the Big Blue Nation will be your home away from home.
LIVING ON CAMPUS HELPS YOU MAKE THE GRADE … AND GRADUATE ON TIME
— Living on campus has a positive impact on a student’s retention rate. Students are more likely to return for their second year at UK if they live on campus and have an even better retention rate if they participate in a Living Learning Program. We know that Wildcats are happier, more successful and more involved when they live in a residence hall. First fall GPAs for students living on campus average 3.07, 0.36 higher than students living off campus. Living on campus is a smart decision throughout your college career.
LIVING LEARNING PROGRAM CLASSROOMS RIGHT OUTSIDE YOUR DOOR
— The University of Kentucky provides a residential academic experience through the Living Learning Program. In all of these communities, students can live with other students who share like-minded interests or similar academic majors. These communities include a small, connected course with other students living in the community, greater engagement with faculty and engagement in university activities outside of the classroom. Space is limited for specific communities, so be sure to keep track of application deadlines. Participating in the Living Learning Program determines the residence hall that you will live in, and your roommate will also be a participant in the same LLP as you. Many LLPs also accept transfer students. Find the right LLP for you at seeblue.com/llp.

Laptop/Tablet Recommendations uky.edu/its/techtips The University of Kentucky strongly recommends that each student purchase a personal laptop computer or equivalent tablet device. A student’s program requirements, budget and preference should be the primary factors in choosing a laptop/tablet. Most laptops on the market will meet basic needs; however, UK offers a few guidelines.

YOU’VE EARNED IT
SEND US YOUR STUFF Many students earn academic credit before they come to UK. Follow these instructions to ensure your hard work is recognized.
Advanced Placement Program seeblue.com/dualcredit The University of Kentucky recognizes examinations from the College Board Advanced Placement Program. Any student who wishes to have AP scores evaluated for academic credit or placement should have the results sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admission. UK’s code is 1837. Academic departments have designated the current policy for students who score 3 or higher on AP exams. UK does not recognize College Board SAT II Subject Tests for placement or credit purposes. International Baccalaureate Program The University of Kentucky recognizes course credit earned through the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program. Generally, course credit is awarded for scores of 5, 6 or 7 on either the standard-level exam or the higherlevel exam. Any student desiring credit must request an IB transcript to be sent to the University. Course credit awarded through the IB program will apply toward degree requirements just as if the course had been taken on campus, except that there will not be a specific letter grade associated with the course. Instead, a designation of CR—credit—will be awarded and the grade-point average will not be affected. In some cases, additional curriculum information must be supplied by the student’s high school before credit will be awarded.
20
College Credit seeblue.com/equivalencies The University of Kentucky currently has almost 500,000 established course equivalencies from many colleges and universities around the country. Please note that if your institution and/or courses are not listed here, it does not mean that credit will not be awarded. Contact the Equivalency Office at uktransfer@uky.edu for more information. Our Transfer Team The University of Kentucky Transfer Admissions team is dedicated to your success as a transfer student. We work closely with you throughout the entire transfer process, from application to enrollment, in order to support your new beginning at the University of Kentucky. Our services include transfer applications, credit transfers and specialized transfer advising, all of which are designed to help you make the most of how you experience UK. If you have any questions about the transfer process, please contact our office. We’re here to help!
YOUR FUTURE AWAITS

Using myUK GPS, students can see how they are progressing with requirements for their major, explore courses and register for classes. Use myUK GPS to try out different options within your major or see how different UK CORE classes will count toward your degree.

ACADEMIC EXPLORATION TOOL Our Academic Exploration Tool helps you investigate your possibilities. If you haven’t decided on a major (or even if you have), be sure to check out UK’s many undergraduate majors by visiting the AET website. You’ll find all our major program offerings, as well as their requirements and much more.
The website allows students to discover degree programs at a personal level. Begin searching for degree paths by first selecting from categories within “I like to…,” “I want to be a…,” “I’m searching for…” or “Browse all programs” options. After selecting your personal preferences, a list of degree programs offered that correlate with your selections will populate under different categories. From here, click on different degrees to learn about careers in the field, courses offered at UK and work environment. The site also shows featured careers, which include salary, number of jobs in the U.S. and a 10-year job outlook all streamed into the site by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
