T R A N S F E R OF C RE D ITS Once you have submitted your transcripts and records, figuring out how they transfer is quick and easy! The University of Kentucky has more than 500,000 established equivalencies from institutions all over the world. If we do not have your course equivalency on record, our transfer equivalency officers will work with you and the academic departments to ensure you receive the best possible credit for your courses. Your credits WILL transfer! The University of Kentucky accepts an unlimited number of college level credits from four-year institutions and up to 67 college level credits of the most applicable coursework from two-year institutions. All coursework must be from regionally accredited institutions.
Your credit will apply to your degree in one of three ways: 1. Direct Equivalency • Outside coursework that closely matches classes taught at UK will be recognized with credit for specific UK courses 2. Departmental Elective Credit • Outside coursework that matches a discipline taught at UK but not a specific course can be given departmental credit at an appropriate academic level 3. General Elective Credit • Outside coursework that does not match a discipline taught at UK can be given general elective credit at the appropriate academic level All acceptable credit by the university can be used to satisfy elective major requirements unless otherwise specified by the academic college.
GENERAL EDUCATION The University of Kentucky will attempt to recognize general education courses completed at other accredited institutions with similar general education credit. A complete associate of science, art or general studies degree or a bachelor’s degree will satisfy all areas of the UK Core, the university’s general education program.

K E N T U C K Y TRANSFER While the University of Kentucky will attempt to honor general education requirements taken at accredited institutions outside of the state, in-state public colleges and universities enjoy a special relationship through the General Education Transfer Policy. This agreement facilitates the transfer of credits earned in general education requirements for students moving from one Kentucky public higher education institution to another. Under this agreement, a student may satisfy general education categories at their current college that will also complete the corresponding category at their transfer institution. Students may receive three types of certification as part of this policy: Full Certification - All general education requirements are completed. (AA, AS, AGS degrees guarantee full certification.) Core Certification - All five general education categories are completed. Additional requirements may be needed before full certification can be obtained. Category Certification(s) - One or more of the categories below is completed and will fulfill the corresponding category at the transfer institution. (e.g., arts and humanities (AH) category certification means no additional courses are required in the AH category.) • Arts and Humanities (AH) • Written Communication (WC) and Oral Communication (OC) • Natural Sciences (NS), plus Science Lab (SL) • Quantitative Reasoning (QR) • Social and Behavioral Sciences (SB)
KCTCS TRANSFER STUDENTS Many students from our state’s community colleges transfer to the University of Kentucky every year. To facilitate their transfer, we have used the General Education Transfer Policy and KCTCS course offerings to develop transfer pathways that allow students to earn their associate’s degrees while also completing requirements for their UK major. Learn more at uky.edu/admission/degree-pathways.

I chose UK because when I was going into middle school, I was invited to come to a science and technology camp. There, I fell in love with the campus and had such a great time that I knew I would want to come here one day. The transfer process from Bluegrass Community and Technical College was so easy. I was able to complete a program that allows me to take most of the classes that my major requires, making all the credits transferable. Plus, I was able to participate in the BCTCblue+ Program, allowing me to take classes at BCTC tuition rates! -Jose Niño, Gatton College of Business and Economics

I chose to transfer to UK because of the location and the school’s reputation. What really makes UK shine, though, is the staff. They made me feel like I mattered well before I even registered for orientation. The benefits of enrolling at UK are both a great education and all the resources designed to help you succeed both in school and after you receive your degree. -Ian Stuckert, Veteran, College of Arts and Science 10
