STEPS FOR FUNDING SUCCESS

Step 1: Gather the documents you need for the FAFSA.

There is no cost to submit and process your FAFSA, which helps universities determine your eligibility for financial aid.

Step 2: Submit your FAFSA each year beginning Oct. 1.

Eligibility requirements* and the types of aid available are at fafsa.gov. *Includes eligibility requirements and types of aid available to non-citizens.

If you’re ineligible for the FAFSA because of your immigration status, you may be eligible to complete the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA). Learn more at collegeforalltexans.com.

Step 3: Check the FAFSA priority application dates you need to know!

Jan. 15: Priority app date for fall and spring semesters Aug. 15: Priority app date for the spring semester only Feb. 15: Priority app date for summer only

*Summer applicants: In addition to the FAFSA, you will be required to complete the Summer Aid Interest Form, which will be available in early spring at my.unt.edu.

Step 4: Apply for scholarships.

Use the General Scholarship Application to apply for scholarships. Visit scholarships.unt.edu for details.

Types of Aid

Once you complete the FAFSA, you are eligible for gift aid (scholarships and grants) or self-aid (loans and work-study). UNT awards more than $405 million in financial aid and scholarships each year, and we’re here to help you succeed both academically and financially.

Gift aid does not need to be repaid. These financial options will allow you to fully focus on your studies and hit the ground running once you graduate without having to pay anything back.

Self-aid provides another avenue to fund your future at UNT. We have many resources available to guide you through the loan application and repayment process, and our work-study positions are a great opportunity to engage with peers and gain work experience for your resume.
