26 FEBRUARY
On behalf of all the staff and students at today’s Open Day, we’d like to wish you a very warm welcome to the University of Salford.
Today’s Open Day will allow you to find out more about the University, hear about your course of interest, chat to our staff and students and ask any questions you might have about student finance and how to apply.
As a student at the University of Salford, you’ll be given the opportunities to make the most of your time here, and the support you need to seize those opportunities. From teaching support to wellbeing, student finance to accommodation, we’ll be with you each step of the way, so you can become the very best you can be.
We build relationships with industry leaders like Morgan Sindall, Morson Group and the BBC, which allow us to offer fantastic opportunities for you to learn skills outside of the lecture theatre, including live briefs, internships and placements.
Our courses and facilities are designed to meet the needs of industry, and many are taught by current and former practitioners who bring their real-world skills and connections to help you make the most of your postgraduate studies.
As you explore our University today, you’ll see the impact of our continued investment into our campus including our £65 million Science and Engineering building, Energy House 2 - a world leading research facility, and our new North of England Robotics Innovation Centre.
We hope that you’re inspired by the enthusiasm and expertise of our staff, the passion of our students and the range of opportunities available to you if you choose to study at Salford.
Your Open Day Team
All of our check-in desks are staffed by members of the Recruitment Team who can help you with questions about the day, about how to find your way around campus or provide any other assistance if you need it.
You’ll spot our friendly Student Ambassadors and Marshals around campus all afternoon –they’re wearing red tops and they’ll be happy to help you out. They’re all current students and are happy to answer any questions about studying at Salford, as well as questions about the Open Day.
In the event of a fire alarm during the Open Day, please exit the building as quickly and safely as possible. Our staff and students will help you find your way to the nearest fire assembly point.
If you feel ill or need first aid assistance during the day, please speak to a member of staff at any check-in point who will be able to arrange assistance for you.
To view the facilities in each of our buildings, you can use our interactive google map at salford.ac.uk/find-us. This includes accessible toilets, gender-neutral toilets, baby-change facilities, water refill stations and cash machines. Click on each building’s icon to see its facilities.
We know an Open Day can be busy with lots of new people and things to do and can sometimes be overwhelming.
If you need a break from the event bustle or to observe an obligatory prayer during the event, there are dedicated quiet spaces available. If you require the use of one of these spaces, please speak to a staff member who will show you to the space.
/ SEE Building, Room 01.32, Peel Park campus
/ Allerton Building, B’Hive, Frederick Road campus
/ Third floor social space, MediaCity campus
The location of your subject presentation and facilities tour will depend on the course you are interested in. You can find out which of our three campuses your course is based on pages 12-23.
Pick up a map at any of our check-in desks, and if you need pointing in the right direction, just ask one of our Student Ambassadors.
If your course session takes place at MediaCity, we will be running a free coach from Peel Park campus to our MediaCity campus at 3.45pm. We strongly recommend you park at Peel Park campus and attend our Welcome Talk starting at 3.15pm. We will take you straight to the bus following the Life at Salford talk.
After speaking to your tutor, you can return to our Peel Park campus using the free coach at 5pm, 5.30pm, 6.15pm and 6.30pm.
For visitors to our MediaCity campus, please note that there is limited parking at MediaCity and there is a charge. So if you’re driving to our Open Day, we strongly recommend parking at Peel Park campus, then catching the shuttle to MediaCity at 3.45pm from Chapman Building. Parking is available at our Irwell car park (M5 4WT).
If you do decide to drive to MediaCity and have a sat nav, you can use the postcode M50 2EQ
Our Postgraduate Open Day has lots on offer to help you gain the information you need to make an informed choice about your future. Below outlines what you can expect from today’s event. If you need any guidance through the day, please speak to our Student Recruitment Team who will be happy to advise you.
12.30PM:
To make the most of your Open Day, we recommend arriving at 12.30pm and checking in on our Peel Park campus. We’ll have refreshments available so you can get settled before the information sessions and tours get underway! Don’t worry if you can’t make it for 12.30pm, our staff will be on hand throughout the afternoon ready to check you in when you arrive.
1PM - 3.20PM:
The first part of the event is focused on providing information about postgraduate study and the support available when you study here. You will have pre-booked onto different optional sessions and tours when you registered for the event. If you no longer want to attend the activity you originally picked, please feel free to change your mind. Page 8-9 of the guide outlines the optional activities you can pick from at each time of the day.
3.20PM - 3.45PM:
It may seem a bit unusual to have our Welcome Talk in the middle of the day, but this is an opportunity for us all to come together before going to your course campuses. Following the talk, we will take anybody interested in Frederick Road and MediaCity courses to your campus. We will be offering a free coach to MediaCity and back for anybody that has parked at Peel Park campus.
4PM - 6PM:
From page 12 you can find the course specific activities that your course will be offering from 4pm onwards. This is your opportunity to speak to the course academics with any course questions and hear more about the postgraduate courses Salford has to offer.
As well as our information sessions, you can also speak to our professional services from the University. They will be on hand for the duration of the event for one-on-one conversations and answering your questions. Page 11 outlines the wide range of teams that you can speak to today regarding your Salford journey.
From 1pm until 4pm, all activities will take place on our Peel Park campus. There are four sessions taking place that offer different activities for you to choose from. Please use the table below to navigate your sessions.
